I'm going to make my signature character on every server, Rejolt (Illusion/kinetics controller)

DM/Elec may have been poor when released but by the time I got to it, it was a powerhouse.

I wondered why nobody played it (and posted on the forums about that). Makes sense that if Elec was poor it was subsequently avoided by a lot of people. Having taken a break from the game and come back later, I had no reason not to try it. DM/Elec Brute will be the absolute first character I rebuild if the game returns.

I'm sure it would play better after the /elec changes, and I'm actually a big fan of that set in its final version, but I would still come back to preferring DM on another AT.  One of the big attractions to the set for me is Soul Drain for its more sustainable damage buff, but that benefit is muted by the Brute mechanic of fury.  I like the set more on tanks and scrappers.

I hope that when things return that instead of a max 48 slots per server that it can be increased to 100 per server.

In Raging COH-less nights
With Strong Hearts Full, we shall UNITE!
When all seems lost in the effort to bring CoH back to life,

Later, I rerolled a new toon using Grav (actually liked the set and the pet, just was underwhelming as a damage dealer/soloer) and paired Grav with Storms (ok choice IMHO) and with Time (Way more fun than I thought it would be, very tough to kill and great at CC).

A lot of controller secondaries provide additional damage in the form of a multiplier (such as /Kin's Fulcrum Shift or /Rad's Enervating Field), and while /Storm has that in Freezing Rain (in addition to its control potential) it also has a relative rarity--significant base damage through Tornado and Lightning Storm.  If you're looking for more damage then, I think the set is often a very good choice for primaries that don't provide much damage to begin with.

That's one of the reasons I like Earth/Storm as a combination.  Along with, of course, the control synergies available, such as stacking stuns with Stalagmites and Thunder Clap, or Quicksand with Freezing Rain.

I'd have a hard time picking just four characters.  The list of characters I plan to at least roll up on the first day is already longer than that.  But, if I had to, I think it would be:

  • Fire/Kin Controller.  This was my first 50 early in my CoH days.  Never had any notion of farming--didn't even have Hot Feet.
  • Elec/Stone Tanker.  Combines two of my absolute favourite sets.
  • Warshade.  Just love this playstyle.
  • Demon/Dark Mastermind.  Hella fun.

I'm not sure there's a controller combo that doesn't have a lot of potential.  There aren't any truly horrible combos in City of Heroes in my opinion, but there are some very problematic ones (Elec/Fire Blaster, I'm looking at you).

Out of curiosity, why did you single out Elec/Fire?

ivanhedgehog

I ran a stone/em tank until the EM changes. the reroll will be some other secondary. any suggestions? Ive thought of fire, not sure

Rejolt

I'll be sad if no Martial Assault (dp or archery blaster with that...)

But I'm coming back with changes in mind. CoH Legacy would be my "what if" game of old mains that I never wanted to reroll:

Rejolt: Elec/nrg dom (from an elec/nrg blaster)
Voltjolt: Elec/Shield Brute (from an elec/elec brute)
White Wolf (Shadow Spirit if the name is taken): Ill/Dark troller from dark/dark dom

I'd need to make something with Street Justice too.

But my triple fire dom Hellborne stays just as is. Loved that thing.

There's likely an elec/kin corr or troller in there.
Rejolt Industries LLC is now a thing. Woo!

Victoria Victrix

In the days before Temp Powers the levels from 1-30 on an Earth/Emp troller were excrutiatingly hard, if not impossible, to solo.  The stuns and hard holds always wore off before you could do any significant damage.  Once Temp Powers came in, that changed, they were slow, but definitely soloable.  I remember actually being in tears over failing mishes twenty times in a row because I couldn't get a team on Vickie 2.  Vickie 1, however, as an Earth/Kin, was quite soloable.
I will go down with this ship.  I won't put my hands up in surrender.  There will be no white flag above my door.  I'm in love, and always will be.  Dido

Hi,

Everyone's talking about what their first characters will be when the game opens again.... Did I miss anything??? :)

Ankhammon

I think my first four will go like this:

Beam Rifle/Poison Corrupter
Naff/DP Defender
Time/Ice Defender

And an Ice Control/Something. Still haven't made up my mind yet.
Cogito, Ergo... eh?

You missed the punch and pie that's about it.

My first toons will depend on whether dual boxing is a possibility or not. Assuming it is and it works much the same as before:

Dual bots/traps - never got these guys to 50 but they were a riot.
Dual plant/storm, plant/kin trollers - my farmers (I like doing things differently!).
Dark/fire brute - again a project that was unfinished at shutdown and had a great look.
Stone melee/something tank or brute - without doubt my best costume but I never could settle on exactly what secondary or AT he fitted best. The concept is reasonably flexible so any suggestions?

I would guess "almost no mitigation in the primary combined with absolutely no mitigation in the secondary."

A Star Control fan?

Yup. He was even a little green man in blue.

I'd thought about making a Orz once. the speech patterns along with trying to find an appropriate power-set combo, not to mention AT, led me to get distracted by other character concepts.

I might have to do the research for the Orz and make that character #6 that I make...

#7 could be a K'Tang character from Star Control 3..They were an interesting race to listen to, just before they attempted to destructify your ship.

Ok, in that case my first char will be a Dark/Dark Defender :)

Elec/Elec Blaster first I think. . .
We're almost there!  ;D

The RNG hates me.

My favorite set in the whole game and to this day I like playing similar abilities in other games is spines. My classic was spines/regen but I had spines a with a bunch of secondaries, not sure which secondary I'll go with first it will be a scrapper though. Also will make a thorn domi, they were a lot of fun, not sure what I'll pair with it yet. I haven't been tinkering with builds but obviously the second I hear the game is back I'll prepare them.
