My biggest regret...

CoH was my 'go to' game from about 3-4 weeks after it launched until about 5-6 weeks before it shut down. I played a lot of games since EQ beta in '98, but CoH was the one I was always sure to come back to during that time. Near the end everyone I knew seemed to disappear. I was mostly a redside player from the launch of CoV onwards and no one was logging in, every where I went was quiet and empty. I only belonged to a couple of chat channels by then and they were quiet. So I lost heart and simply stopped logging in. I wasn't there at the end, even if it was by myself, to see the servers shut down. I regret that.

I think my biggest regret was letting my real world frustrations seep into my interactions with other players in game. I got a handle on it in the later months before the end was announced, but, boy, was I rude to some folks that really didn't deserve it.

It happens. DId you leave it that way or try to make amends prior to the end at least?

With some, yes. Others, well, I hadn't reached that point where I realized how petty I was in that particular instance.

yeah, no worries. Soon you might have your chance to make amends.

I never beat Hammidon, or the Statesman TF.. ;_;

Ashen Fury

I regret the breaks I took from the game, more than anything else. I always managed to catch up to the current content, but I missed out on a lot of time with the people I knew for so long.

Like many, I really didn't think the game would end, and I would have all the time in the world. Things that I regret not doing (they were on my "list of things to do"):

Hamidon Raid; Shadowshard TF's; Statesman TF; Night ward; Not collecting "moar badges"!!!!; Not trying out some of the later powersets; Not getting my Dark/Dark Controller to 50; Not getting my Beast/Nature's Affinity MM to 50; not starting a Plant/NA Controller; not finishing my SG's base for the 3rd expansion.

Really...I could go on and on.

I really don't have any regrets about playing the game, or at least none come to mind.  Perhaps I might have forgotten a few minor ones.

I can't say I wanted to play more.  During one month between shut down announcement to actual shut down I concentrated on playing STO.  I had been suffering COH burn out for awhile, and it really came to a head when I played a lot after the announcement, so I went elsewhere for a bit hoping to find a replacement.  STO, which I like and useful for the sci-fi-based screenshots I want and will put COH characters into, wasn't it.  Neither is CO.

The one regret I have, which is more of a wish, was that I wanted more more things to do in the COH world than just beat up criminals.  I was fulfilling that desire somewhat by writing a comic book, using COH screenshots, of one of my characters as more of a secret agent (she isn't really super, just has high tech gadgets).  Ah, the one regret I do have: I never finished that comic and have only a couple pages left to do, but, as great as Icon is, I cannot do a final climatic action sequence.

side note: what map is the one where you are on the moon or whatever is in orbit and you can see the Earth from it? (for a sci-fi shot of characters in "space-suits" on a barren moonlet)  I can replace the Earth with any number of planet shots from STO (or off the internet for that matter).

Samuraiko

This is my biggest regret. :-\

I made so many characters that were awesome and could do some of the funnest things I could think of but the one concept I heard about but never got to. I wanted to make a stone brute that could run like 23mph with granite on plus soft cap defence all around. I had the build and everything and the IOs needed were not even all thate rare so it was never a resource thing. Just thought I had more time.

I *did* get a Stone Tanker soft-capped and massively run-boosted, only I went with Stone Melee.  While I feel your pain, I do think it's funny that a Granite build was too slow to make it before the game went out of existence.  :)

Little late I suppose but I had a`few gold side only toons. I played mostly squishies, blasters mainly. It was absolutely possible to solo safely there. Heck, I even did the zone events solo a few times.

I don't have any real regrets. There were things I didn't do but that's true of most things. I guess my only regret is that I can't play right now.

Wow, this list of my regrets can go on for miles. But i just wanna tell you the top five.
1: I never got to play with my family as often as i wanted. Even though they would be on at random times in the day, i always just wanted to get onto a vent server and just talk while we did a +2*2 synapse, just me, my dad, and my uncle who was in miami.
2: I never put PvP enhancements on my three man mastermind team. Around issue 19 or 20, i used mine, my uncles, and my dad's accounts to do an experiment, i wanted to make a three man mastermind team, all bots, one dark, one force field, and a sonic. i made that team, took it to 50, than went into the 50 PvP zone with regular inventions (sorry its been so long i forgot the name of the zone) and was walking around with all bots on aggresive. out of nowhere an ice/ss trys to take me out and all the bots kill him within a couple mins. when i found out the applications, i wanted to fit all three with full PvP enhancements, but never got around to it, to this day, i still have epic dreams of me being the king of 3v3 zone combat.
3: I never made the name KABCOM (my dad's favorite name to put as a toon's first name) famous. No matter what my dad did, he could figure out the best way to take out the toughest of the toughest. One of his major ideas was to make a team with nothing but ice/kin corruptors. with this he wanted to keep constant speed boost on the whole team ( after it could be applied to an area instead of just one at a time) and use blizzard on every mob with max lvl. Sadly, i never got to join that team, seeing as though i wanted to just play my mm team at the time.
4: I never got into a big SG. I have heard of SGs that did daily TFs and went on hammi raids more often than others, but i never got to experience it, the only time i did a hammi or a major TF was when it was exclusive to our family and only our friends would get the manpower to start it. Never got to meet that many people in the game
5: Finally, and this is the big one. I never went rouge or vigilantie. I had heard of the powers that you get when you do and that they were nice, but never got to experience it. I had done everything from killing the tyrant on an incarnate, to helping out with the seed of hammi, but not once did i ever do a tip mission. All i did was use my paragon points to change sides in the test server, but that was it.

Go and bask in its glory.  Make costumes, visit zones, spawn NPCs, have Nemesis /em discodance at the feet of all your alts in one screenshot...

Just...go...

Eoraptor

Like so many, I regret never playing all the way through the Praetorian arcs. I just never cared for Going Rogue and figued i'd get back to it when I was bored with standard quests.

I also regret deleting my screen captures and character names in a fit of depression. the client was long gone because of a hard drive crash, but the caps, thse I CHOSE to delete, sadly.

this one is not so much a regret as a missed opportunity, but I never got to hook up with one of the role-play oriented supergroups. I loved my heroes and their backstories and playing them out, but I had a hard time, especially in the Freedo era to find like-minded individuals.

well i figured out the costume thing but i never heard of the rest, when did this happen?

Phaetan

Icon 1.6 and later, I believe.  if you have 1.7, you can go past character creation and into the game.  No combat or powers you can turn on, except flight, but the permanent NPCs are there, you can detach the camera, spawn and pose NPCs, and all of that other fun stuff...

All you need.

Read it. Love it. Live it.

Oh and I highly recommend you use the I24 beta client.

You can tell if you have it already by the login screen you have.

Back out from the first screen of ICON as you would have done normally in the game.

If you have a creepy smiling guy (Marauder) then you have I24 there.

If you don't see him there, then you do not have I24.

Here is a safe place to grab the beta client:
