QuoteIt was no coincidence that Mark Jacobs was open to talking about his Warhammer Online experiences with us recently. If you deduced that it was the prelude to his MMO comeback attempt, you were right.

Jacobs' City State Entertainment announced today that it's working on a new MMO under the working title of Camelot Unchained. And yes, it will be RvR-focused with three realms duking it out: Arthurian, Tuatha Dé Danann, and Viking. Camelot Unchained will tie RvR conflict into player housing and a dynamic economy as well.

Because this tightly focused concept may prove to be too difficult to draw publisher support, the 13-person studio is turning to a future Kickstarter campaign for support. Obviously, we have no shortages of questions about this project, but we contained ourselves to the 10 most burning queries that we presented to Jacobs. Dark Age of Camelot was easily one of the best MMOs I've ever played with exciting siege warfare and the 3-realm dynamic for PvP.  I loved being able to level up through Player-vs-player content from 1-50 using their Battlegrounds which made some great memories.  I can't wait to see what they're going to do with this.

Bah, I wish he'd gone for Imperator instead. But interesting, may have to back that Kickstarter...

Knightslayer

From what I've read it seems they are aiming for a pure RVR MMO, with no PvE involved - curious how that'll work.

General Idiot

From what I know of most other exclusively pvp mmos.... it won't.

Kaiser Tarantula

If it's exclusively PvP, I won't play it, even if I can.  I don't have a lot of patience for some 13-year-old yelling four-letter-swearwords at one another and at me for percieved slights and trying to tell me how to play.  If I play anything that's purely-PvP, I play it with friends and friends alone, and if I can't do that, then I'm out.

Most RvR games like this don't let you hear the opposing players, it's usually something like "Midgard Invader says something you can't understand".

Dark Age of Camelot is still running with a solid player base (small, but it's a niche game and that's the niche this game is going for) and there are other PvP-based games out there now or upcoming that are also looking to net that niche audience.

I think it's pretty ballsy to say outright that you're not looking to appeal to the players that don't fit your niche.  They know the audience they're making the game for and tailoring exactly to meet that audience's needs rather than going for something with more broad appeal that would get more subscribers.
