OK, I'm sick of "end of the world" stories. :P I'm inflicting my massively amateur writing on you all.  So here's my attempt at a short story entitled:

Maybe NumNums is Right
He was a very lucky demon.  Of the vast legions loyal to Overlord Emilia only 6 demons won the lottery to come here and play 'superhero' with her. He was the grand prize winner that got to be labeled a 'demon prince'.  Like the others, he had came up with a silly, and downright cute, secret identity (the better to humiliate their foes).  In this case, he was known as Cupcake.

"I don't get this." Cupcake scratched his head.  "Why would this person want to destroy such an awesome world?"

"Yeah," Emilia sighed, "I don't get it either.  He's like a baby having a temper tantrum and throwing his toys out of his pram."

"He could be crazy," the demonling going by Sweetie Pie helpfully offered.

"Or he's just stupid," the demon NumNums nodded.

"All of the above maybe," Emilia agreed.  "Anyhow, here's how this works.  Some worlds become stronger than others to the point where they develop their own sources of power to fuel them.  In this case," she gestured down at the streets of Talos Island from the building she and her pack were hanging out on the roof of, "they named it The Well of the Furies."

"The Well in turn is fueled by the people who live here: it runs on their dreams, the friendships they develop, the sheer enjoyment of life they carry, and all of those other feelings that make people less romantic than me wince.  They have built that  all up over the years and I'm pretty sure he isn't aware of how strong this world is."  She shrugged "I don't know how he missed it."

"So when the end of the world that the tinpot despot's planned blows up in his face," she sighed, "rather than destroying everything, the Well will just wrap itself around the world (in a metaphysical sense).  Unfortunately, that'll cut off this world from any other worlds.  But as long as people keep dreaming, continue creating art, keep together as friends, and fighting to save the world (even if they're just saving it for themselves), this world can't be destroyed."

"Maybe someday this world will be back in touch with the rest of the worlds out there," Emilia smiled.  "But come tomorrow morning the sun will rise over the city.  We'll all put on our capes and go on, no matter who tries to stop us."

"I still think he's crazy," NumNums quipped.
"And I, of course, am innocent of all but malice."
