I Miss Talos Island

Talos was my favorite zone.  For whatever reason, it was my default place to hang out when just sort of chilling in CoH.  I used to hang out on Rikti Hill and watch the heroes come and go and usually strike up chat with passers by.  I'm still having a difficult time with the fact that I cannot simply go and at the very least, craft some enhancements or pop into Pocket D.

It was amazing on the final night to see so many old, familiar faces/names as people scrambled to get their last minutes in.

I hope against hope that someday, somehow I'll emerge once more and run around Talos and all the other zones.  Flipping carefree with ninja run toggled and looking for a team.

That is all.  Sad face over.

The sunsets in Talos island, with the light slanting through the buildings.

I always thought that, if we ever got to have actual physical locations in the game to put bases, I'd want to put a base in Talos Island, in the skyscraper NW of the tram, up at the floor where the first setback is, so that I could put railings up on the setback and have a balcony where I could go out and watch the sun go down across the city.

Talos was great!   So many good arcs; my fave's include "Twisted Reflections" from Field Agent Keith Nance, and "Looking Through the Glass" from Special Agent Jenny Adair, Episode 2 of SSA "Who Will Die", "The Scroll of Tielekku."

Talos was my favorite place too. It had a variety of landscapes and something about living on an island, close to water always appealed to me. But I think in some ways, it's importance to me and other players was that fact that it was the zone you were playing in at the halfway point to 50.

Following that same thinking, Talos was also the cross-over zone to the upper level zones! When you were playing in Talos, you were really into the game at that point.

From Talos alone, you could get to PI, FF, Skyway, Striga, Pocket D (and therefore, Faultline) and the original DA, not to mention the nearly perfect layout and convenience for The Tram, The Base Portal, Wentworths, and The Tunnel system. Heck even the location that the Ouro portal took you to was convenient!

Add to that, the fact that it was also the zone everyone went to for their first SO's which made such a huge difference in your characters abilities makes it the hands-down winner imo.

I can vividly recall when the game was in its early months of release and I had not yet purchased it myself, I went over to see my friend Teddy, and he let me play the game a bit. I blundered into Talos as a lowbie by way of Skyway City, and was soon besieged by Tsoo Ink Men and rapidly defeated.

After I got the game myself, Talos soon became one of my favored zones, and remained so throughout the life of CoX. When the market system was added, Talos got its Wentworth's right next to the tram-line. Plus, Luminary (and Citadel) were right there waiting by the Tram's ramp, and the SG base-portal was there as well (later moved closer to Luminary if memory serves). Pocket D access was close by, as was the Police Station contact, and the Bank for storing salvage. Plus, Talos is one of the Zones where the Ouroboros portals led. Later when the Tunnel Portal access was added in Issue 23, it too was right off the tram.

Basically, almost everything (save for the The Hero Corps Field Analyst) was very well placed for ease of access, and the zone itself was very pleasing and lively, with a nice mix of enemy groups. It was indeed a great point of transition for heroes passing from the games early levels into its later ones.

So yeah, I miss Talos Island as well :(

I started the game in Praetoria; my second toon went blueside and wound up in Talos; that was my first exposure to Paragon City proper.  It seemed a scary place!  Now it doesn't seem so scary, looking back.  Last time I was in Talos (I think the day before the end?) I took part in a Rikti invasion team, and took a photo of Cap'n Kraken's seafood sign.  Wish I had thought to take some pics of the boardwalk too.  Ah well... :)

The waterfall at the Serpent's Teeth district was claimed for the dragons. That's the resting place of my Lv50 blaster.

As much as I'll miss the people, and I think I might miss the places even more.  Those moody shaded trails in Perez.  Moth Cemetery, esp the original version.  The Wolf's throat in Striga.  Portal Corp campus.  The walls of Cimerora.  Dirty alleyways in Kings.  The bridge in IP.  The eerie hay fields in Croatoa.  Those same streets and parking lots in Atlas I warmed up every single level 1 toon I ever had.

All gone.

Its a strange thing to vivid memories of place that never really existed.  :-\

Remember way back (before CoV) when the Talos tram station was lag city because it was THE meeting place if you were level 20 or higher.

Talos had all the origin stores within a couple of super jumps from each other.  Access to Paragon Dance Party/Pocket D and later the ferry to PI and the smuggler's ship to Striga Island.  Back when the only way to Founders' Falls was through Talos.

It was Talos where I first ran into DE, BP, Warriors and the every popular Freakshow (cause you get to defeat them twice).  It was the zone where a lot of players got a taste of SOs for the very first time.  And while IP had Lusca (or three) Talos only had the Ghost Ship which kept getting stuck in one place or humorously stuck following a player who could then lead it all over the place.

LOL  I remember doing that. It sort of 'attached' itself if you got right in front/back of it.

And the very last remembrance image in the awesome Evangel's Memories video, as he looks up at Atlas and then drives away at the end ...

(this is by a large margin the most emotional video for any game I have ever seen - go watch it if somehow you've missed it)

Lady Luck

Talos was also my favorite zone and I think I got to know it better than my own neighborhood.
My fave place was a rock out in the water by the tram where you could watch the sunsets.
And such convenience! Everything was so close together!
Except the Hero Analyst. She was stuck under Talos's statue out in the middle.
Even the best Rikti invasions were in this zone.
I found the crappy town where I'm the hero!
But then NCSoft took it away :(

Wait, WHAT? :D :D :D
Early on, you could aggro the ghost ship and lead it around.  Hilarity ensued.

I never knew that, either. I just remember when an issue publish broke its pathing in Talos and it would sit for hours by the Dark Astoria door.

Now that I do recall, and it was pretty funny.

Talos was my favorite zone, too.  My main always kept "Minotaur" as her badge title.  Another of mine was really fond of the panther travel power, and if she wasn't doing anything useful, she'd do a lap or two around the main island, just because running and jumping was fun.

Shinobu

I remember watching someone drag the ghost ship all over the place.  ^_^  Kept me entertained for the better part of an hour.

My very first time in Talos was really scary.  I'd only been playing the game a couple of weeks, and I had a new empathy defender that I was playing who was about level 13, and I was invited to a team by a friend, and some of the people on the team were as high as level 20.  Powerful, godlike!  We ran some missions in Skyway, but then one of them had a mission in Talos.  I remember I was told not to wander off anywhere, that it was really dangerous for me, and I got ported to the entrance.  I just remember steep cliffs right at the edge of the road, and high level Tsoo down the street that could kill me instantly.  That was my first impression of the place.

I also remember hanging out in Talos and seeing a large ambush of Nemesis, all of these level 45 robots running about, I'd never seen anything like them, and one guy who came along and destroyed them all.  I was quite impressed by that too.  ^_^
