Free CoH novel: for when the servers shut down

Years ago, I wrote a CoH novel, intending to try to sell it to NCSoft.  I am now making that novel, in its entirety, available on my web site, for free.  www.terraforming.com/CoH_novel.html

This is not a "loosely based on a concept" novel.  Where possible I used actual NPC/contact monologues and wrote them into dialogues.  There are some descriptions from the game.  Everything is based, not on the fictional city of Paragon, but on the actual game play itself.  Some actual dialogues from missions have been used (I changed the names of the characters, unless they belonged to my supergroup members, who all gave me permission to use their characters in the novel).

In setting it up for html, I just now noticed that practically the entire Manticore TF is recorded in one chapter.

Just my way of hanging on tooth and nail.

That's pretty awesome. I'm pressed for time as all hell, but I've got it bookmarked.

I will undoubtedly read this whenever I can! Thanks for sharing it with us! =D

since I hate reading on the web, hope you don't mind if I pull it off, combine it, and put it on my Kindle :)  I'll also put a link to it on my fan-fic site.

Excellent.  Looking forward to a new read now that I'll have a hole in my free-time allocation.

I've been tinkering with a CoH novel myself, but I kept waffling on whether to set it in the CoH universe or not.  It was rather loosely tied, with much of my own creation to flesh out life in Kings Row & Skyway, in particular.  Realistically, it could have been set in the less savory parts of any town, so it seemed silly for me to limit it to just being a CoH derivative work.  New names for the city, the neighborhood, a few landmarks, and a few organizations, and it'd be entirely mine.  Unlike so many of my characters in-game, these characters didn't have histories with strong ties to the CoH lore.

Still, it was a story I always WANTED to be part of this world.

No, I don't mind.  I'd only mind if someone copied it and tried to sell it as their own.  ;-)

But....*you* wouldn't do that, would you?  lol

Are there any of us who have not been writing a CoH novel?

Mine is running the original Synapse Task Force and my character meeting her alternate dimensional father (as in, she is from an alternate dimension where things are much different) aka Clockwork King

Gah.  Having some sort of 'stay connected' issue today and it's ruining my posting.

Only meant to add...

Writing CoH novels has gotten me through three Nano Novel Months.  Hopefully we can save it in time for me to write another next November.

Haven't yet LOL.  I wouldn't be posting it on the site (the Continuum Worlds) anyway...just a link to your site.  Once I get it compiled I will put it in Epub and Mobi formats and let you personally know where to get them so you can post them if you want.

This really hits home with me. My main character is a Claws/Regen Scrapper cyborg.

Wow.  Nice.  Let me know what you think of Jon's story...and his life as an amnesiac cyborg.  (The idea owes a great debt to Deathlok, of course, but also to a chapter in Dune.   A no-prize for anyone who can figure out what chapter...I don't credit Robocop, as it was too derivative of Deathlok, which preceded it by many years.)
