What we Got! Internet Meme.
« on: October 24, 2012, 02:14:09 AM »
Just came to me lets show off our creativity.

Goal is to have mass group shots of themed characters.  First Theme is Eastern Martial Arts Fantasy.

The Images will have...

Martial Arts Fantasy...

(at the bottom).... yeah we got that.

We do the same for each style game or story.  Horror, Sci-Fi, Retro-hero- Action adventure, Fantasy (Wow style).

With matching backgrounds if possible.
One way or another... Heroes will fly again!

This is a pretty cool idea. Would've made an awesome ad campaign.

I like the idea. The question is how to organize the photo shoots. Maybe pick a Saturday or something and that day is "Photo Saturday" every 20-30 minutes the group moves to a new zone and takes a new thematic screenshot for use with these memes?

We don't really NEED to all be in-game at the same time.

What if everyone just designs a costume and uploads it somewhere? And then someone puts them all into one scene via Leandro's crowd builder?

I should think people would make all kinds of themed costumes, to go with the themed backgrounds. You don't want a robot in Croatoa's fairy woods, for example. Well, not unless you want to show off disparate themes. But judging by the OP's comments, they're looking for

<picture of horror backdrop> + <classic horror style characters>
---
<picture of space> + <classic retro or futuristic spacey characters>
---
<picture of modern street> + <modern characters>
---
<picture of destroyed city> + <"Fallout" style characters>
---
<picture of woods> + <fantasy characters>
---
<picture of boiling magma> + <demonic characters>
---
etc etc etc etc

Oh! I hadn't even thought of that. I'm not the one to be putting it all together with crowd builder...but if someone else wants to do that I'll gladly help make some costumes to send in.

Indeed that's the idea.  It's to show that City of Heroes/Villains has much more then people think.

I nominate HEAVY METAL as a theme.

The storm palace makes a good metal background, imo.

Will do the idea is that we HAVE this.

We have Martial Arts characters Images,

We have Sci-fi

We have Drama

We have adventure

We have...

Okay I think I mad the point.  Basically I want to showcase it's not just Spandex and capes.  I be getting a few shots of my character in different outfits.  Post your images here of your Hero/Villain in such outfits and we see if we can get them in one shot.  Like  TimtheEnchanter said.  Have no clue how to do that so need a more skilled photo editor.

When Plan Z is near launch we start a new version of this showcasing it's costumes and locations.

With demo record data (and that awesome script) characters could be collected, arranged and posed anywhere you want.

I have an absolutely classic (and fully clothed) Martial Arts style Defender with that Chinese costume set.  I can donate a pic of her.

For the background of the "Martial Arts Fantasy" I would suggest either the pond with the leaping fish at the bottom of the mansion in Night Ward, or some of the Hollows scenery, which is slightly reminiscent of the Tits and Bits scenery.

Go in-game and turn on any powers, effects, auras, etc., that you want showing, then type
/demorecord YOURCHARACTERNAME

then type
/demostop

Now look in your City installation folder for client_demos, you should see a file with the same name as your character. Open the file and search for your character name. It should have a zero a big space then a number and "NEW" in front of the name; this is in essence your "entity number". That whole block of text with your entity number is your character data. It tells us all of your costume pieces, auras, power effects, and emotes. Copy all of that into a new text file, then upload that text file somewhere like textuploader.com.

Example: http://txtup.co/hTEiO

Does the character's weapon of choice show up in costumes before they draw it? Never been clear on that and the one time I tried manually drawing a blade, I couldn't get it to work.

No, it doesn't show up in the static data (for example, the link I gave, Emma Z carries a baseball bat that doesn't show up because she's not in combat stance to capture the data.) That's why you have to turn on stuff you want showing, including weapons. (Click an attack to go into combat stance.)

Customizable weapons are included in the costume data whether or not you draw it. However it makes it a lot easier on someone who is demoediting them if you actually draw the weapon, since there's a little bit of black magic involved in how demo playback handles weapon mode bits.

The easiest way to get a weapon to show up is to use a MOV that forces the weapon to be drawn, for example the draw animation or a draw-and-attack one.

Take a look at the file I linked. That is a shot of my character where I logged her in, did the emote to put her hands on her hips, then did demorecord/demostop. Everything there is what was visible in the demo file in the block where she first shows up, all the text until the next SKY line incremented the time. Where's her baseball bat? Or rather, where SHOULD it be, since it's obviously not in there?

I know how to demorecord but I can't seem to open the file to see the textblock as in your example. I can only replay the file using the demolauncher. Can you tell me how to see an example as yours?

Oddly enough, that kind of thing is exactly what I've been doing as keepsake of some of my toons - taking a screenshot against a suitable background with the character's biography visible.

I'll dig a few out...
