Moonfyire101

Hello all, Moonfyire here, I just wanted to say that Mike Dynamo aka Rockdeadman and I are developing a series of save our city stuff.

https://i791.photobucket.com/albums/yy194/vmieu/SaveourCity003QR.png

The 1st thing done is a flyer for heroes. http://moonfyire101.deviantart.com/art/Save-Our-City-326263787
Please distribute these in any way you like, print, blog, email, however you want to do it just get the word out. I have several comic stores and game stores willing to let me leave these on there counters.

The next flyer coming out is Villains and should be posted in 1-2 days. After that will be Rogue.

T-Shirts. We are also doing a CoX series T-Shirt campaign. I will let you know when they have been submitted. Please request them at Teefury.com at that time so they will print them. Wearing CoX T-Shirts will definitely draw attention. We will donate 1/2 of all money earned on the shirts to the cause whether it be for Tony to have more servers if he gets the game or just buying everyone stuff from the in game store if we do indeed save it from NC closing.

We are working on an animation as well...I don't have an estimate on that one yet but we may need more voice actors.

If anyone is doing anything similar please post links here so they are all in one place.

Thank you Tony for keeping us informed and helping us save the city. Thank you wonderful CoX community.

Very nice!  Ty!  We have a smaller address for the petition, too : http://bit.ly/savecoh .  I think Xenophage also cooked up a QR code for it.

:o T-Shirts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  My old Statesman star shirt is getting pretty ratty. Will there be multiple designs and/or colors or just one? Mainly I'm asking because if I can buy 7 different ones I can wear them every day  ;)

I hate to be nit picky.. but the flyer, as pretty as it is.. really doesn't tell you what you can do to save the City. ... I mean, it's really pretty... I love the artwork.. and I really appreciate the work that went in to it...

...but when I looked at it I thought, "OK... save the City.. support the cause... how?" and there was nothing easily there. I looked again and saw there is a long URL on the bottom in small print but it's hard to read cuz it's in the artwork.. but if I saw this in a comic shop, I wouldn't really know what it was you wanted me to do to help..   :(

Has anyone thought about bumber stickers/magnets? I drive about 50-100 miles every weekday, mostly on highways. Thought about making my own with something on it like " City of Heroes- It's not just a game but a community. Save out city! #Savecoh" Just a thought  :)

I'll second that. I drive over 1k per week with my job as a field tech servicing printers and such. Mostly highway and Interstate driving. Destinations are all Walmarts in all sorts of different size towns. Couldn't hurt anyway :)

Shoot I think I might use one of the poster printers I service in the photo centers and print out a poster size on of the logos we have going with some link info on it and use it as a sun-shield for my car in the parking lots and back in so it's facing people walking by. Thats a ton of traffic! Wonder which link I should use? Hrmmmm...

Shirts!?  I'm totally getting one.  Or more.  I don't have any Cities shirts and I reallyyyyy want to change that!

WanderingAries

just curious, but this is all legal to do right? atleast so long as it's not for profit? or is this one of those 'allowed if following X instructions' in the kit these games give out for customer promotion purposes?

I tend to agree :( While it looks nice it is very hard to find the information on the flyer. It's a little too "busy" imo. :(

It's legal as long as we don't use any of their art assets and it's not for profit. Thus why the OP should donate *all* the money they get over their costs, not half. Just sayin'.

Hey, the t-shirt idea is setting off my legal radar too.  If you plan to go forward with this, please remember that using any art or visual assets from the game would violate copyright and possibly trademark also, and I'm just not sure that a t-shirt designed to save City of Heroes would be very effective without at least something from City of Heroes on it.  Being non-profit won't protect you from copyright/trademark infringement, as a lot of (for example) music and movie file sharers have found out lately.

If you can design something that doesn't use any assets from the game--not likenesses of characters, not the Red Circle font, not anything--you should be okay I think, but be aware that I am not a lawyer, so take that worth a grain of salt.

It just seems awful risky, and right now, I want to avoid that kind of risk.  I can't really stop anyone who wants to do something like this on their own individual initiative, but right now, I would really prefer that we stay away from creating any kind of City of Heroes merchandise for sale.

The flyer actually has 4 urls on it. The reason we didn't put a lot of information on it is because people don't generally like a "wall of text". We put just enough information to get people to be interested and investigate the links. Under the picture it says "Fellow heroes of Paragon city we stand on the brink of destruction." He basically said the purpose there. Then he goes on to say "Our fates may be uncertain, but we will not give up without a fight." Still talking about it. "Support the movement that has been started as we march towards the endless horizon" There he mentions the movement. This is all done in a very comic way to draw attention. "We are Heroes, this is what we do. Let's save our city!" Again he mentions saving the city. He's enticing people to find out more. Why are we saving the city? It's on the brink of destruction you say? Oh no what are these links? It was a design decision that I think will work fairly well. The next 2 will be written in the view of villains and then praetorians.

The links are the ones that Obsidian asked us to use and then I decided to add Titan to it as well. She sent us the petition, the save city of heroes facebook page and the city of heroes websites farewell page. All 4 links explain what this is about.

As for donating the money for the shirts, we are not using their logo. The only reason I said half the money is because the person doing most of this work is an x navy vet who has no job. He's been looking for 2 years and lives in a rundown neighborhood where there aren't a whole lot of jobs available. He's currently a struggling freelance designer who's decided to give up looking for payng jobs for a while and work on this. He won't have internet to keep making us stuff if it gets shut off so I thought I would donate some to save his internet and use some to print flyers to pass out a my college campus. You are all encouraged to raise money to help advertise and donate to this cause in any way as long as Tony has no problems with it. The other half is not going to selfish gain but for internet for the guy making the designs and printing costs. I've also made arrangements with 3 comic stores to tell people about the movement and pass flyers out as well as 2 video game stores and a reptile show. Anyone can make shirts at teefury.com. If you notice, they use copy written stuff all the time. You can change it just enough that you don't get sued but people still recognize what it is supposed to be. The shirts will not say City Of Heroes but they will be recognized as it.  I studied copy write law for the tournament I'm judging so it will be fine.

I appreciate your concerns and will have more stuff for you all to look at soon. If any of you are working on a project like this please post it here so we all know where to find it. Thanks.

I would question the use of the font being actionable, but I agree, otherwise.

I think the AP33 is the best bet, because it's distinctive and will get people asking questions.  Curiosity can be a useful tool.

I ask people what their shirts mean all the time.  Heck, sometimes it's not because there are boobs.
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."
