... I have a feeling I won't be able to switch.  I should just learn PhP and be done with it - :P

HA!, Dude, you know ASP.NET. PHP is not far off... Syntax is relatively the same.

Tell you what though, I've made hundreds of PHP scripts using all kinds of libraries and the best tool I've come across is WeBuilder 2008. It's cheap compared to other editing softwares. And it has a very large comprehensive library.

Real-time Syntax checks, setup php on your machine and preview script before upload to FTP. The thing is freaking great!

If you need any help setting it up let me know. :D

Well... in my opinion C# is easier than VB.NET, references are stored right in the DLL the build creates. Plus C# is great with DDE and talking to other apps all-together, even ones not included on the DDE "Server".

The code is syntax is WAY different... and is only really con is that it is stand-alone intensive.

Perl and Ruby (eRuby) are forms of C# and C++, both are supported on most FreeBSD and Desbein Linux hosting servers. Both server-side scripts share the a lot of the same libraries.

Anyways, I was just regarding his Volt's comment about how needs to learn PHP. Kind of made me chuckle because the syntax of PHP is a lot like VB.NET.

Variables are simply changed from
Code: [Select]
Dim t_Variable as New Control = VB.NET.Control{blah}.suffixto
Code: [Select]
$t_Variable = "Whatever You Want";Depending on the libraries (and some you can even download and install in your servers cgi-bin and just link it in the modules section of the php.ini) you can even use ASP tags (<% %>) just in case that's what you're used to :D lol!

Classes work relatively the same, and AJAX and other Active X components can be used, with the help of java-php & ajax.

Functions are close to the same setup of JavaScript. Which any webmaster should know well enough.

PHP is like the mooch of the script world. It takes allot of the same syntax that makes all other good scripts function.

The next version of VB.NET is suppose to be up there with C# (Can't wait for that so I don't have to listen to the VB.NET, C# argument over and over again - :P)

I could learn PhP (I am just being a lazy programmer and I an content with my job) - :)

Yea, I'm in the same mind-set. I make good money being an in-house application support specialist and VB.NET, C#, C++, Delphi, (and in some extreme cases) Unix for a Customs Broker.

I do the PHP thing on the side. Stei{Nerd}.com is my current "moonlighting" business. Making good money on there too :D.

Yeah I am thinking of trying to trade some web work to get our Kitchen done.  One lady we know did that and got a brand new kitchen in return for doing the company's website.

HUGE MONEY involved in that stuff.

Few pointers, Go cheap. If someone wants a 6 page website as a interactive business card, there is no reason NOT to charge them low. Like I'm doing a BrasasGrill.com restaruant right now and I charged her $500, %50 escrow to setup the host and domain. (Plus I get the 100 bucks back for the account referral from the hosting company, so I don't lose anything on the deal.)

Custom script are big money if you sell them to the right places. Themes and PSD Templates are a big business in the CMS market on TemplateMonster.com and sites a-like.

OH YEA, best way to go is CMS. Sadly most of the good CMSs out there are GLU or some other non-commercial licensing.

HOWEVER, if you can find a CMS with a "MIT" license like Concrete5, you can tweak and use and make your own custom CMS that you can charge additional for.

Using mainstream CMSs like Joomla and Drupal are still legal, you just have to drop them a $100 donation. It's worth it in the long run... :D.

I split this discussion into it's own thread :)

Wow, that's a pretty cool CMS, actually, just poking around the demo.  Never heard of it before, so thanks :)

Oh Yea! If any of you site devs wanna get some extra cash, check out www.rentacoder.com. Kind of like a reverse eBay.

Post what you think the job is worth, and the job seeker will usually take the lowest bid, or most qualified for the job, based on your on-site resume.

Site takes a small finder's fee. But still worth it. :D You can even setup projects to be 1%-50% escrow, which I always do to keep the bidder's interest.

Yeah I am on that site, just haven't really tried to do anything on it.

Maybe I could work on a project with you one time to see how it is done.  I wouldn't expect any money just curious as how you go about doing the job for the person.
