Warcraft
« on: June 11, 2016, 10:26:17 AM »
Disclaimer: I've never played any of the Warcraft games or WoW and have no familiarity with any of the lore. My entire experience of the series is the Leroy Jenkins video, the South Park parody and 2 minutes of watching my cousin pvp.

Having said that, man, that was a just a brutally awful excuse for a movie and I can only imagine knowing the lore and having expectations of it would make it even worse. They could have saved some money and let Uwe Boll make it and I'm not sure it would have been any worse. Of course it's still going to make a ton of money and spawn a long franchise, but ugh, just terrible.

I played every Warcraft from Orcs&Humans on, and I liked the movie.
The Lore/plot changes are mostly cosmetic and easily justifiable by the change of medium. Not to mention, trying to keep the story understandable and consistent with the dozen or so retcons since WC1.
The orcs look really like something living and the magic effects are done pretty well too.
Also, there's a Murloc ;D

Well I'm glad it was enjoyable for someone who likes the games. I just found it to be one of the thinnest stories in recent memory with almost no character development and meh acting.

Found it funny that the actors who play the Preacher and Tulip on Preacher are the king and queen in warcraft. You can almost hear the 'pop' of the slashfic being spontaneously generated.

I tried WOW once, and never got very far and I know practically nothing about the lore of the game.

I thought the movie was okay. It didn't knock my socks off, but it was competently made and there was more complexity to the characters than I expected.

Of course City of Heroes could have been made into an awesome movie.

There is enough plot with the Rikti invasion and/or the arch villains.

I know right?! I'm still trolling about it. I can't believe they have the guts to produce a movie based off from the game that EVERYBODY recognizes! But, only a few people like us who know about City of Heroes AND played the game! City of Heroes even came out before Warcraft did....I think. >:(

Now they need to make an animated series based on Hearthstone...

Correct.  There was a lot of talk about who was going to give WoW a try on the teams I was on around October.  When Wow came out, about half of the people on my friends list just disappeared.

WOW came out after. I knew a lot of people in COH that left to play WOW. A lot of them came back to COH like a year later and left WOW.

Just because it tanked in America doesn't mean it did elsewhere:

It needed more Gold Farmers and people dancing around in their underwear to be a REAL Warcraft movie.  Not even a single "lol" in the whole movie....

I know a bit of the lore, I game with my hubby whenever he's in the mood for it.

The movie? It was worth it.

We should encourage the success of a movie based off a video game, especially since we as former citizens of Paragon will never see that eventuate.

Also, wasn't David Bowie's son a director in that film?

I don't get the dissing.

Instead of the usual pre-movie instructions to keep quiet during the film, there should be instructions for everyone to loudly say whatever stupid things come to mind during the movie.  It'd be like live Barrens chat.
