They are probably gone, but you can find out for sure by searching for the file name pattern(s) on your hard drives.
If they were deleted very recently, and you haven't done too much else on the computer, you can try one of the "lost data recovery" programs out there. Best to put the drive into a toaster, or mount it as a secondary drive in another computer so that the installation of the recovery program doesn't do any further over-writing of sectors marked as reusable.
