My tribute to CoH in Minecraft

Hello! I'm generally not very active here at all (I'm sure my account activity prior to now would show my last login roughly coincides with NCsoft shutting down the game.  :'( ), but I did a little something that I felt was worth sharing with those who would appreciate it.

It was a project that I planned to do when the announcement dropped, and during the last month of gameplay on the servers, I spent some time flying around gathering reference pictures for this:

It still could use some fine-tuning, particularly on the underside, but I have (more or less) fully re-created Ouroboros in Minecraft. While fairly accurate, there are some discrepancies that I attribute in equal parts to: the perspective of my reference photos, Minecraft's 1block=1meter restriction, and Minecraft's somewhat limited pallet of blocks (for example, gold in Minecraft tends to be more yellow than the more orange-gold features of Ouroboros, and fencing was a bit of an issue, as I had to use wood).

There are also some comparison shots (in the off-chance any of us need our memories jogged):
This mainly took me so long to complete because I got burned out on the project around February of 2013, when I had finished the front section. And then I forgot about it for two and a half years, used WorldDownloader to grab the half-finished project off of the server I had started it on (The server was thankfully still around for me to do this, despite having been abandoned by the players). And over the past couple weeks I've been working on the rear half.

If you want this in your own Minecraft world/server, all you need is a way to import schematics (like WorldEdit), and the following shematic that should hopefully work: ouroboros.schematic
(For best results, paste schematic while standing/hovering between Y values of 123 and 157. Also, there are a few command blocks that will likely need their teleport coordinates changed; inside each of the two pylons and the roof, which should all lead to the resurrection rings at the back, which I've hijacked, and am using as teleport pads.)

Oh, and if you are wondering how people are meant to get up there? Well, you can turn on a water-spout on the lower observation-deck area for people to swim up or... You can teleport them there using command blocks. Like I did here, in this village I walled off, called "Park Atlas", and built a portal under a somewhat familiar statue:

srry for posting late, but I was away. This is very nice. I don't know much about minecraft
however, this looks like a lot of work.  :D
I tip my hat off to you!

It takes a village to raise a child. And it takes a villain to explain the value of lunch money.

-Random CoHer: "Why does the sky turn green during Rikti invasions?"
-Me:"Rikti Monkey farts"
-Random CoHer: "I'm going to you for all my questions from now on!"

Very cool.  Shows we are still alive :).
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

It would be cool if a group of us CoH'ers started a massive project to build the whole of Paragon City, the Rogue Isles, and Praetoria at 1:1 scale, like that one group did to their country. I think it was Denmark. It would help pass the time for more news.

Messing around in Trove a bit. I'm not very good at this yet. Also, the size of the club worlds and the scale of the voxels limits what could be done, I think. That shield is 44 voxels across iirc, and it's massive.

Holy cow, how did I never think to do Ouro? I was always hung up on how to make the Atlas statue look decent, and never got around to doing anything as a result.

I've played Minecraft for years, it's my 2nd favorite game of all time (to CoH of course), and always wanted to do a CoH project.

A lot of the problems you mentioned with the project can be fixed with some decorative mods. Extra Utilities, Chisel 2, and Forge Microblocks all come strait to mind, but there are hundreds if not thousands of them out there that could polish this up and make it look spot on.

I love the idea of a server for the CoH/MC players to come and build the city in creative mode. If people consider mods for the project there are ways of doing actual asphalt streets with painted lines, furniture, all kinds of things. If we wanted to be really fancy we could even build our own dimensions using Mystcraft to our specifications so that Ouroboros, Shadow Shard, Praetoria, Rogue Isles, and any others could be in other dimensions to travel to (like the Nether or the End). Those dimensions we can even have multiple suns, different colored skies, and all kinds of stuff.

This is something I've toyed with for a long time, and if there was interest I could put together a good pack to start with and easy instructions for those who havent messed with mods on how to set it up (there's a lot of rules on distributing mods, so would have to look into if I could just send out a zip file or something). The only thing we would need at that point would be a decent server, preferably at least a 1 gig server if we want mods and other dimensions without lag, more if we had a lot of interest.

Yeah, but I also wanted the base structure to be as vanilla as possible for maximum accessibility. I've since added the pillars of ice and fire to the various locations they were in-game (beyond those inside the building),  and added in armour stands with coloured leather armour for the various NPCs. Also, I made the pillars inside have buttons that teleport me to  a series of rooms at the bottom of the map where I've the elite four for every pokemon game ('cus I've got the Pixelmon mod)

I've also started a second project, although I've kinda burned myself out on Minecraft again, so I probably won't pick it back up until I'm feeling creative again in a few months. See if you can guess what it is:

Storm Palace?  Nice job, looks like a lot of work went into it already.

Gorgeous job with Ouroboros, and nice job with the Atlas.   :)
