I want to get back into things but need a little help

Hi everyone,

I joined when CoH went dark and was planning to help with some of the various Plan Z options, but then ran into some issues with my health, job and life that meant I had other priorities.
I'm still somewhat recovering, but would like to know what's going on and on a longer timescale hopefully make some contributions.

I've tried to get up to speed by looking at the various forums but I'm a bit fuzzy about the details. Maybe someone here can fill in some of the blanks for me.

  • As far as I can see there is an ongoing effort to licence CoH in some form from NCSoft, but negotiations are behind closed doors and might or might not bear fruit. I'll just wait and see.
  • The Phoenix Project has turned into City of Titans. They've had a kickstarter that I've missed. They seem to be going 3dsMax and Unreal3 and were using the kickstarter to fund licencing for those.
I've looked at http://cityoftitans.com/forum and http://missingworldsmedia.com/forums/index.php but neither of those seem to be very active except for a few Merry Something posts. Am I missing something?
  • Valiance Online. This project seems active and I was able to run the pre-alpha. They seem to be on Unity/Blender with a smaller team and less funding, but they have something to show. Are they a split off from The Phoenix Project as well? I remember originally everyone was going Unity/Blender, was the move of CoT to a different engine the cause of the split?
  • Heroes and Villains. I remember GoldenGirl starting this separate project. I think it was because of some creative differences? http://www.heroes-and-villains.com seems active. They seem focussed on the Hero Engine, which I'm less interested about.
  • Then there's Atlas Park Revival, but their site just confuses me. I don't understand what they're about.
  • Does anyone know the status of the Virtue/Unionverse wiki/forums/site? The wiki seems down.
  • I'm assuming the Paragon Wiki and Titan Network with forums are being kept online as I can post here. Do they need any help or funding to keep running?

Thanks.

the people that did the large kickstarter for the new coh game are the people looking to get the old ip of coh from ncsoft. the issue is ncsoft only has a disk image of coh. so any old data is lost and any tools to add newer power sets. when this group set up a company to help get money for coh ip. the coh revival people want to drop coh into a newer game engine and add more power sets. all coh 1.1 or 1.2.

There is an effort to get the IP from NCSoft, Nate (from Missing Worlds Media, CoT) is involved with that effort but it's separate from the effort to make City of Titans as far as I understand.

I'm not sure but as far as I know. Valiance Online is a completely different group from the others. Not a split off group.  I could be wrong on that one though.

Again from what I understand, the Atlas Park Revival(APR) was a one person project to reverse engineer a very old issue of CoH issue 3-4 I believe? When it first started but since has taken a new form with the effort to obtain the IP from NCSoft. From what I understand is, if the group can get the IP from NCSoft. The lady running APR, is going to be in charge of trying to rebuild CoH in either Unreal 3 or 4 engine. Which has been loosely considered CoH 1.2 or something like that. LOL

*Disclaimer* My post was just a very brief and from the top of my head answer. So it may not be completely correct but generally correct. LOL!

Sorry I couldn't answer all of your questions but I'm sure some one will come along who can.

Missing Worlds Media has nothing to do with the current Hail Mary to get the IP from NCsoft.

I mean, it's in ginormous letters at the top of the reveal thread. Jeebus, people.

1. Nothing happening in public, so nothing to comment on.
2. CoT is on a small downturn in activity presumably from the holidays. We'll probably see it kick back into gear here in the next week or three. Also, they're in UE4, not UE3.
3. Their engine has been in development for seven years under a different game/theme/story, which they cannibalized for their City successor. This is why they are so far ahead of the other two projects.
4. I have no idea about anything to do with H&V.
5. Atlas Park Revival is building City of Heroes from the ground, up, in UE4.
6. I haven't looked in a really long time, but about a year ago, maybe more, their front page died a horrible death. Ransim (the owner/operator) has never fixed it. You can google pages from it and still get to them (e.g. http://www.virtueverse.net/wiki/Ascendant ) and once you're on a page, you can browse around anywhere as long as you don't go to the main page.
7. We are always taking donations to run the sites.

That's SEGS, which is still sort-of in development off in the wilds of the internets. APR has nothing to do with that.
