Arrow Season 3

How did we not have an Arrow Season 3 thread already? :o

So a question for all of you:

Spoiler for Hidden:
Who shot the Canary?

I just finished with season 2 on Netflix.  Which might've been decent if not for the constant flashbacks.  I thought maybe they'd be done in season 3 since it all seemed resolved, but then it ended with a flashback to post-island Hong Kong.  So, tell me, has season 3 been riddled with flashbacks, too?

I enjoy the flashbacks as much as the show.

It parallels the story and lets us know how Oliver developed.
But I get it why its not for everyone.
It takes a village to raise a child. And it takes a villain to explain the value of lunch money.

-Me:"Rikti Monkey farts"

I, personally, like the flashbacks.  It gives more insight into the Arrow's development.   And I think it was Ra's Al Ghul's (bad spelling, probably) henchman.  I am probably wrong.

It looks like they're setting up for Oliver to get his full hero codename. The public have now seen the Arrow and his red-clad partner working together. They're both archers, and the public and the press won't know what to call Roy. He's with the Arrow, so I figure that they'll start calling him the Red Arrow. And then, by virtue of retronym, Oliver finally becomes the Green Arrow.

I'm not liking the flashbacks now but I loved the island flashbacks.  I'm seriously considering editing all of them together to make an Oliver Crusoe movie.

Spoiler for Hidden:
Who shot JR?  It's definitely somebody she knew but obviously didn't expect to see.  The way she said "What are you doing here." wasn't said as if it were somebody who was in the area.  Not even Thea.  I think it's probably Nyssa.  I don't know why she would kill Sara other than series necessity.  Laurel is going to become the Black Canary so something had to push her over into vigilante mode.

Well, after last night's episode, that theory might be flushed down the toilet...

I like that they keep bringing in the non super DC characters.  And I really wish that they had been able to go with Ted Kord instead of Ray Palmer because Routh is doing a great job of playing a Kord like character.

I'd like to know what they intend to do with Ray Palmer. "Arrow" is a more-realistic universe, and they bring in the civilian name of a hero who can shrink himself to sub-microscopic size? I figure three possibilities:

1. They're only using (wasting) the name, and have no intention of his being anyone out of the ordinary. (Unlikely; they'd risk fan-base discontent, and they've shown too much respect for the source material to screw up like that.)

2. They intend to have him become someone other than The Atom as we know him. (Precedent:
Spoiler for Hidden:
Isabel Rochev became the super-powered Ravager, instead of The Queen, and had only her name and backstory to link her to The Queen.
)

3. He was in Central City when the particle accelerator blew, and actually is some form of The Atom.

Time will tell, of course, but they've done very well so far, so I'm optimistically hopeful, and look forward to seeing the situation unfold.

I'm betting this and either he already is The Atom, and we just haven't seen him in action, or he hasn't discovered his abilities yet.

Spoiler for Hidden:
It won't be Roy though.  It will be him remembering something he saw and had wiped from his memory.  They already had a "Roy gets bad and does something he would never normally do" arc so they won't repeat that idea.  If this were Marvel I'd say he saw Bullseye but I don't know of any DC villains who throw non throwing items with deadly accuracy.  Possibly Boomerang could manage it.

I'm not sure how Oliver is swinging around the city given his condition.  Maybe there's some trickery with which events took place at which times?

Then again, it's superhero show, so injuries aren't always going to reflect reality.

Things I learned from this week's episode:
Spoiler for Hidden:
when leading a street gang full of armed gunmen against a mob of townspeople armed with one gun, a bow and arrow and some baseball bats, it's important to remember to only use those guns as bludgeoning weapons. under no circumstances should you mow down the opposing mob. it's also important when forming a mob to take on a well-armed street gang that you recruit mostly unarmed civilians, a teenager whose powers include a leather jacket and a tough looking haircut, and a former vigilante whose powers include boxing and wearing a ski mask. under no circumstances should you recruit the guy you know who has an armored suit that shoots hard-light beams, the guy you know with superspeed who could disarm the entire gang in a second, or anyone from the covert military outfit you have worked with on multiple occasions.

Anyone else wondering when Tatsu will show up in costume?  Originally Katana and her soul sucking sword came to the USA to avenge her husband and son, could still go that route with her informing Oli they're dead and she's there to help against the LoA.

It's getting difficult to tell who's most irrational between her, Laurel and Oliver, so i guess that's good? Lila is evidently going to start throwing her hat in the ring too.

Yeah - Oliver is definitely getting a "WHAT THE HELL, HERO?"  from me at least once an episode for the last few.

His cranium is becoming entirely too familiar with the anterior end of his alimentary canal.

Just the last few episodes? Few = 51?

I love that they had both pronunciations of Ra's in the same episode. They have used both in multiple TV shows, which would usually be the way we'd know which is correct. So I went to the intronets to find out which it was and it turns out that Denny O'Neal who created him pronounces it one way, and it's pronounced the other way in the Arabic. Given that both of those would be pretty good measures of the correctness of a pronunciation I'm forced to conclude that there isn't actually a correct way to pronounce it.

Gutsiest move of the night was Laurel jumping off the roof.  Let me break it down:

- Three people jump off the roof of a 10 storey building
- Two grapple lines go up to slow descents
- Arrow grabs Canary on the way down and they make it safely to the street.

So, Canary jumped off a 10 story building without hesitation, with no means to save herself from plunging to her death, trusting completely that Arrow would catch her.  :o

Holy shit.

An F-35B taking off vertically with a full weapons load (and presumably a full load of fuel) and transitioning that quickly from jetborne to wingborne mode that close to the ground without a "ground fault"?  I am disappoint.

Decent CGI on the bird, though.

So...Thea. What do you think?

Spoiler for Hidden:
What name? "Speedy", "Artemis", or (with Roy's costume) continuing "Arsenal"?

I'm thinking that she modifies the costume, and probably goes by "Artemis", since it's more dignified than "Speedy". Plus, with Oliver's having been publicly pegged as The Arrow twice now, Team Arrow might not want to take the chance that someone who knows them recognizes  "Speedy" as Thea's nickname, and puts two and two together.

Of course, I've overlooked the possibility of a different name. But "Speedy" and "Artemis" are the two that I've seen talked about the most.

No, you're right. If I recall correctly, Oliver did it to remind Roy of Thea, in order to jolt him out of his rage, and keep him from pounding an opponent to dust. But he did call Roy "Speedy" once on the show. And then, in the crossover event, Lyla asked Oliver if something was wrong between him and "Speedy". She meant Barry, but Oliver thought that she was referring to Roy, for some reason.

A lot of people online have been down on the third season. I, too, found it lacking, but I can cut them some slack. It seems to me that they were working toward Oliver's finally becoming Green Arrow. To do so, they decided to make it impossible for him to hang onto the Arrow persona.

Spoiler for Hidden:
So, they first had Ra's taint it by convincing the city that the Arrow had gone back to killing. Then, Roy's taking the fall and faking his death removed the Arrow from the board permanently.
So now, Oliver's free to return as Green Arrow, maybe taking a cue from Thea's toying with the idea of going by the name "Red Arrow".

I'm looking forward to the return of "Arrow", "The Flash" and "Agents of SHIELD", and to their being joined by "Supergirl" and "Legends of Tomorrow". For the first time in years, my appointment-TV schedule's starting to become crowded.

We've had quite a few Green Lantern references on this show and on The Flash, and, on tonight's rerun of the Arrow episode, "Draw Back Your Bow", I noticed one that got by me in the first airing. Diggle said that Carrie Cutter had undergone a psych evaluation at...Saint Walker's. Now they're even referencing the Blue Lanterns. After all of this teasing, if we don't get an actual Green Lantern at some point, I shall be QUITE cross! And you wouldn't like me when I'm cross! So, change your last name to "Stewart", already, and get your ring, Diggle!

Maybe he changed his name from Stewart to Diggle to avoid confusion with the other John Stewart and he can change it back now that the Daily Show has a new host.

Of course the GL references so far have been to Hal so we need him to get his ring so Diggle can fill in.
