I just want to say there are a lot of heartfelt articles coming out that I think would do well to move our cause forward. One on Eurogamer was succinct, strong and emotional. I think it captured in short what a lot of us felt, with a touch of humor.

Think it'd be a good idea to post on FB pages, tweets or whatever else? Couldn't hurt in my mind.

Sure. Share EVERYTHING. The more interested we are, the more interested the media and websites are :)

Thanks for posting the link.  Yes, it certainly captured what I and many others felt and inspires me to want to DO more to Save City of Heroes.

Wow, that article is terrific!  I think that's the best one yet!  Thanks for sharing.

I'm going to pass it on and I hope everyone else will do the same.

Just in case anyone missed this.

An example of a TV-ready webpage is this:

When we get their attention we have to think in terms of the visual equivalent of a soundbite.  One splashy page that sums up EVERYTHING, with a single click-through to, say, here and Leandro's SaveCoH page.

We need a BIG graphic with Evil NCSoft crushing the Colbert SuperNation beneath its feet, and maybe bashing the top of the Atlas park dome (and the FLAG!) over with its fist.  I'd say NCSoft as a Faceless Giant Corporate goon in a suit with an NCSOFT chest badge.

Title over the graphic: EVIL KOREAN CORPORATION DESTROYS COLBERT SUPERNATION!

Text under the graphic: On Dec 1, NCSoft, a Korean gaming corporation, unilaterally shut down the most popular superhero game in the world, City of Heroes, destroying in one blow thousands of characters, including the Colbert SuperNation.  For more information click HERE.

That gives the interns everything they want to know to see if they will take it one step higher.  If they do, they get directed to Titan Net and SaveCoH for a lot more information.

CAN YOU DO THIS?  I think you can!
I sort of dovetailed a call to reTweet at Colbert Nation onto her thread and I am concerned that I clouded her issue.  Anyone good with website design wanna take a stab at this and give us a link we can use to spread the word?

(Leaving her thread alone because her name as 'last poster' draws more attention than mine but wanted to make up for my possible error)

I have a friend who does amazing website design.

I would show you examples, but most of them are NSFW - they pay better in her experiences. That said, I'll see what I can do. She does all kindsa funky CSS stuff and makes 'em super pretty, but she's planing on moving soon and has some financial issues hitting her, so she may not be able to assist.

Trying to Keep This in Mind for Today

The Colbert Report is a topical show, written daily for production in the evenings, so there is every chance we could get a mention if we can just catch their attention.

So this is the plan.  Tweet and Twitter and Splash his Face Book Page with the 'Save CoH' campaign.  We need the immediate impact that internet contact can provide.  With the Holidays coming fast, his show will be going into reruns in the next week or so, and it could be very helpful to get mentioned before that happens.

I do not feel this sort of campaign is out of order.  The Twitter Account information is publicly available from Comedy Central's website.

Some intern has the job of reading the Twitter feed come Monday morning and we want him to have a reason to tell the writers of the show about us.  Tweet him, Tweet the Colbert Nation.  Post on their FB page.  Link the Disney buyout project, link the various mentions CoH has received on MMO sites and so on.

MOST ESPECIALLY remind them that EVIL KOREANS destroyed the Colbert Supernation!

I'm also curious, though it's a dumb question, have people tried Reddit? Specifically /R gaming? That's a broad audience to reach out to right there.

Go for it!

I wouldn't even be on Facebook if it weren't for my daughter in law posting grandbaby pictures.  I have heard of these reedit and pinterst things but I don't do them.

Strangely enough, NC Soft got me to get a Twitter account.  I was caught up in the players who had their accounts suspended because NC Soft had a hack that accessed information to their account database.  Customer Service was slow on reacting, or even explaining, but they had a Twitter address and doing that got me my access back in less than twenty four hours.

My draft Reddit post. Feel free to edit and change. I want this to make a big impression on Reddit, to emphasize what we're trying to accomplish. We have a real chance to bring in dozens, if not hundreds of interested parties on a website this major. So what I want to bring to the table is something actually worthy. I don't think it is in its current incarnation.

Chop it up. Add to it. Delete sections and take the body if you have to. But I think we need to hit up Reddit, especially /R Gaming. We need to do it in a way that will impact and make people stand the hell up and notice. We're a large community, but we're not enough. We need to wake folks the hell up. The more we got, the harder we can punch and the more we can do.

Save City of Heroes Draft Article

http://www.savecoh.com/

Currently underway is a movement to save City of Heroes by reaching out to parties to buy the IP from NCSoft, protest NCSoft's unethical business practices towards not only the Paragon Studios development staff, but the treatment of gamers worldwide, and if all-else fails to create a pair of new superhero MMO's for the public. We need the help and attention of gamers all-over.

[Meaningful reads to the closure and reactions to City of Heroes.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-12-04-the-final-hours-of-city-of-heroes ]

"In a realignment of company focus and publishing support, NCSoft has made the decision to close Paragon Studios."

Why you should care: City of Heroes was a creative bastion in the face of an MMO industry that has gone, for lack of a better term, generic. There are a million fantasy games, sci-fi clones, but ultimately superheroes are all-encompassing. The only place where you could find mythological heroes fighting alongside powered armor sci-fi soldiers and street-wise modern day masked vigilantes.

NCSoft landed a blow against gamers everywhere by killing game that was both profitable and loved by the hundreds of thousands who ever played the game in its lifetime. The game represents 8 ½ years of community, labor, stories and love. In a fell stroke of a pen and a pushed button, NCSoft destroyed a well of imagination for no seemingly logical reason. It wasn't money, it wasn't a lack of interest.

The game's shutdown was announced on August 30th, 2012 to the surprise of the entire development staff of Paragon studios by publisher NCSoft. Paragon Studios' entire staff was laid off on the day-of announcement. A given shutdown date of December 1st, 2012 at 12:00 am PST. Despite an in-game protest that spanned over 33 instances of over 100 players on Atlas Park, Virtue alone, and more spread across other servers, as well as support from outside and inside the game, NCSoft in Korea decided to kill off City of Heroes permanently.

The game garnered 3% of NCSoft's revenue but was profitable, bringing in $10 million+ dollars each year for NCSoft and as 50% of NCSoft Korea's western revenue. No clear reason was given for CoH's closure to this date aside from the cryptic statement above. An entire development staff was thrown to the streets when new content was well underway, and tens of thousands of players are mourning the loss of a creative outlet. If the game was profitable, and a valuable chunk of western revenue, it does not make sense to close.

City of Heroes is the forerunner of superhero MMO games. It allowed for creativity, player-made story arcs with its mission architect, a character builder that rivaled anything in 2004 and most things in 2012. Superheroes speak volumes to the hearts and minds of the American audience; just look out our most blockbuster films in recent years. There is a place for this game, but we need your help.

Even if City of Heroes is not necessarily your interest, I'd recommend looking into the movement for a stepping stone towards unfair practices by publishers in the gaming industry. Everything from firing employers, to unfair DRM, to unrealistic market expectations and the endless churning of boring, unimaginative clone gaming, these are issues that are important in this context. The gaming world was better for City of Heroes and is better for ideas that foster the mind and imagination.

What you can do: Currently there is a pitch to reach out to Disney in a bid to show them the value in buying the City of Heroes IP. Also, we are trying to continue to reach news media outlets, groups like Colbert Nation and many more. Helmed by The Titan Network and creative minds like TonyV and Mercedes Lackey, we plan to try to resurrect the game. We need your help and we need your involvement as gamers, as voices who care about the industry and where it will be.

Tweet, write letters, reach out to major financial groups who have the means and care to bring back the game from NCSoft's clutches.

Help on the lore, involve yourselves in The Phoenix Project. It's a ground-floor opportunity to showcase talent.

We are Heroes. This is what we do.

Just a detail -- I think "100 players per instance" needs to be stated more clearly. "33 instances of over 100 players" can sound, if you're not really paying attention, like "over 100 players scattered across 33 instances" instead of " over 100 players in each of 33 instances".
