pancake it, here's a Tiger

Because I call them Tigers, so they're Tigers now...

And that kids, is scientific FACT.

Cat's tricked humanity into domesticating them.  Cat's are 4th dimensional being's.  They saw what humanity would become in the future and the effect it would have on the world as well as the other species that inhabit it.  So they decided to "allow" humans to "domesticate them" so not only could they live as the kings they feel they are.  But they also could ensure their own survival.  Look into that cat's eyes.  Those are the eyes of the universes most dangerous and intelligent species.  With his fluffy face, and little whisker and hi...OH DAMMIT I FELL FOR IT AGAIN.  Ruthless beast......

Been reading hieroglyphics late at night again too huh?  :P

Funny thing is, half an hour after I posted the pic (which was about 3am here), I went to grab a drink - who else but the neighbours cat came and jumped on the window sill beside the sink...

To top it off, I said "hello", and what do you think the purr back sounded like?

You guessed it, "hello"

Try being angry after that.

I was thinking it would be a better service to mankind to airdrop Joshex into North Korea just to set their nuclear weapons program back about three hundred years.

Space-time is generally accepted as a non-physical object or form of matter, it is instead a mathematical concept, model or construct to represent space/matter moving/existing through the dimension of time. So strictly speaking - saying that 'Spacetime' is not real, is correct, its not something that exists, it is instead something that we choose to perceive, the combination of space and time. Its a human invention.

Marvel Agents of Shield did a good job of explaining it in the recent episode 'Spacetime'

If a sheet of paper is a single snapshot of reality, or the universe.
Then a stack of them would represent spacetime.

Going from the bottom page, to the top, would be the progression of time.

exactly, but it describes something that is actually very real, however that thing that is actually very real doesn't function quite like proposed.
There is always another way. But it might not work exactly like you may desire.

A wise old rabbit once told me "Never give-up!, Trust your instincts!" granted the advice at the time led me on a tripped-out voyage out of an asteroid belt, but hey it was more impressive than a bunch of rocks and space monkies.

Finally got around to finishing my experiment this morning.

I found the number I had to find to finish it. now back to those references...

the outcome; the number I needed to find is relatively useless and has an error margin (I suppose I should find that error margin as a raw number, no wait, the error margin would always be the number). I loled. The rest of the experiment that I had already completed is of more value.

A number with an error margin sounds like a serious mathematical discovery.

He did say he's been to China, so it's very possible he was actually in Korea...

Based on his usual accuracy, I'd say Czechoslovakia is more likely.

Scathing. I'm reading a book for class (Political Theory for Mortals by John E. Seery) that opens with a similar 4 page hilarious yet scathing excoriation of the political theory field and its scholars. The most biting insults are not those with bad words, but those that are intelligent and devastating.

I still don't get how people are supposed to be doing any experiments or science in your scenario. You sort of make it seem like anything that isn't "true" is worthless - and of course no one is going to know the truth if the clock is unable to be opened. Your analogy makes it sound like none of the people looking at the clock should even bother, because they will never know the truth.

If your clock guy can't get into the clock, of course they're going to come up with explanations that aren't correct. And of course someone later with a Eureka moment might realize that there could be something inside, and they would be more correct. But that doesn't change the fact that the first clock guy was at least trying to come up with an explanation that was reasonable and made sense based on the motion of the clock that he saw.

And then, as you say, people come up with better ways of applying the theory, and realize it might not work. So they come up with a better theory. Just because the first theory was wrong doesn't mean it wasn't a valid attempt at figuring something out. And in fact, it was a necessary step towards finding the truth - without the erroneous theory that made later generations realize it had convoluted calculations and might not be correct, they never would have arrived at something closer to the truth. And that's the whole point of science - just because something isn't "true" doesn't mean it's not useful.

We are indeed like the clock people, in that we may never be unable to open the clock. But that doesn't mean we should stop trying to figure out what makes it move.

Quite right good sir. I have no arguments or corrections.

I have one point to add: Worship. when worship happens people stop trying to find a new answer and bow down to the current one. anyone who finds contrary to the current explanation by any means will be mocked. "The earth is flat, behead this heretic who says it's an imperfect sphere!".

Worship happens when people 'make their names' or associate their names with discoveries, or make a living off researching a dead end associated with a discovery (etc.) which are later proved wrong. those persons get defensive then offensive, because their reputation and/ or fame and livelihood is on the line.

I think today, it's much less sinister, it's more like people don't see any problems with the current system, so why change it? and even if it needed changes as I propose, they would be huge changes which would require many changes to the model, people really just don't want to deal with adjusting to such drastic changes if they can avoid it. and as I said, they don't see any problems.

Well Red Green says "if it ain't broke, you're not trying", I don't see a lot of tests and money put in to falsifying relativity, no one out there is trying to see if it can be broken, well except me. Though if no one ever tries to prove it wrong and all we have is experiments trying to prove it right, then we will only collect biased data which may be flukes or one-offs (given how hard it is to collect data).

In a direct agreement with your post, I don't believe people should stop trying. Instead we need to find other methods to definitively find out what is actually inside our 'clock' (what makes our universe actually 'tick') there are some tell-tale signs no one has noticed that can be used to measure and predict such.

The problem is current theory has decided to instate and worship blockades to progress.

the speed of light being the max speed that physical objects can attain is one such blockade, a lot of work has been done to attempt to solidify it as fact, yet not a lot of contrary tests were done. It's even forbidden to hypothesize "what would happen if light did move faster than this proposed speed?" Forbidden! how dare we even think it, our glorious emperor deserves better of you!
