Hero Virtual Tabletop > Tools to help play P & P style RPG On Icon

Jeff Anderson

I have been programming some tools over the last couple of months that have helped me extend icon into a virtual tabletop specifically to support P and P style RPG sessions using the champions RPG.

I've developed a ton of features, including automatic orchestration of attacks, activation of characters, orchestrated use of animations and special effects, etc. and want to start sharing with the community. I have piggybacked off of Codewalker's amazing work, and gained inspiration from others work, such as Arcana and Talikinisis (to name only a few), and the feedback I have gotten from players has been amazing.

I am not ready to release the whole system, however I want to release some of the more basic features for sharing and feedback from others who might be interested in trying to use Icon to support pen and paper style RPGs Like Mutants & masterminds, Champions, etc.

As I have a huge inventory of developed features, I will be rolling them out once they are in more of a deployable shape over the next month or so.

So here goes...

Hero Virtual TableTop v.01 Can be found here...

Drop this in your City of heroes directory, extract, and look at the instructions.

This version includes 3 basic features
- the ability to define and then load Custom defined crowds of NPCs or costumes
- the ability to assign complex sequences of MOVs to each NPC / costume (animations), and bind to a keystroke trigger
- The ability to load custom animations ( configured above) by targeting a character and then firing the key structure

Attached is a short video on how to run crowd management, I'll be putting one together for animation management shortly as well and will share here.

Feel free to comment on this post, or PM if you are trying to use this in require support...

Interested! Will check on this when I get home from work.

Edit: never write with voice recognition unless you check what it thinks you said... Sheesh.
Rejolt Industries LLC is now a thing. Woo!

Just an FYI I have added the ability to save and load locations for NPC / costumes in a crowd. This means you can sey up your map ahead of time, save where the toons are located and easily repsawn them back to their original location. I tried to create a video but ran into technical issues.

I think this might be the tool I've been looking for to automate npcs and create some battles. Best i've been able to control is 4 npcs using a keyboard macro and that stuff takes hours to program sometimes...

I hope you'll continue to work on this tool when time permits.

I am, and I will, i have a ton of features that I can put the effort into deploying if you are serious about giving it a try. for instance today I added the ability to generate and load custom chained keybinds based on the model you click, the animation binds are loaded in real time. Also buit a means to load a crowd of NPCs to saved locations on a map with one keypress, and added the ability to teleport to a selected model.

tomorrow I plan to add a move and attack mode for NPCs, basically i am going to enable WASD like movement of NPCs, I think i figured out a waycto do it.

let me know if want the full featureset, although maybe a google hang out session may be required to get it deployed, its not quite adeployable app yet, more like a bunch of integrated keyboard based utilitities

I've got vacation time coming up in the next few weeks hopefully. Time which is going to be spent recording stuff in icon so I'll use that time to dive into this awesome program.
