@Domesticon - I've talked to a few people within NCSoft, and the general consensus is that we've avoided any trouble thanks to our approach (inspiration, not duplication). There is a group negotiating with them for the rights to the IP, but that has been slow going due to the ongoing Nexon drama I've been led to understand


So the Nexon mess has impacted our effort. The team and NCSoft are still moving forward - no doubt the guy in charge of selling it is being ultra careful.

This is actually good news.  Perhaps Daybreak isn't as bad for EQ Next as I thought they were (Even though they fired the most senior member of the development team and the guy who appeared to be the mastermind behind EQ Next)

I am willing to put strong money on the idea that more than 90% of the people who have actively searched for information on the state of the game since the initial announcement that it was possible came up will return to the game if it does make a come back, regardless of if they check the forums every day. The only difference that would make is WHEN they would come back.

People keep talking about how people are going to "give up" or "loose interest". Sure, they probably will, but in almost every single one of those cases that will be temporary, that may mean that they play other games (I sure am), that may mean that they only check the board when they think about it 3 months after the last time they have (I have gone through that phase a couple times), but "giving up" implies that if the game did return they would look at it and say "nah, they took too long."

I would say the only danger of that happening is for another game to come up that captures the same magic that CoH did on any level, and frankly I don't see anything approaching it even on the horizon before the spiritual successors.

I however don't sit pining for the fiords. I have a lot of things on my plate right now from working on writing a book to restoring a 144 year old house and 135 year old barn to caring for 8 acres and also training and fighting as an SCA knight.

Life is busy. It does not mean however that you can't hope as the absence of hope is despair and I refuse to despair.
