I have been in a few Betas for games where the NDA strongly suggests that you shouldn't reveal that you are in the beta. I believe the CoV beta was like that.

Although it wasn't always enforced by an actual NDA, all of the closed betas for CoH came with the directive not to specifically mention you were in the closed beta.  The punishment for violating that directive could be not being invited to future betas.

I seemed to be the rare mooted exception in that even the devs publicly stated I was in the closed betas sometimes.  Hilariously, one closed beta every single dev that ordinarily submitted an invite for me to closed beta figured someone else would do it so no one did it, I never got the invite, and the only way I knew closed beta had started was that two separate devs started PMing me about some of the things being tested in closed beta, to which I had to reply "did closed beta start already?"

I've signed a few NDAs in my time, and the majority have involved not being allowed to say I was under an NDA.

I remember this story on the forums (after the fact, obviously, a while after you had been let in).

Nate has said I think in either Feb or Jan 2015 that all we need is one yes and its done

Where was this posted? :o If they are under an NDA, wouldn't that violate it? I'm all jazzed even more so now that we got some info as recent as Jan/Feb of this year! Does he have a blog/twitter/etc where he gives random info? Just wondering where you came across the info. I've just been coming here for updates of anything. Hoping to be playing CoH by Christmas LoL Not likely to happen, but no one better say anythin to kill my dream >.>

When I run a google search I get nothing about it, I'm just going to tell you right now.  It brings me up older stuff, but never anything in any forums.  I wouldn't mind say, a link to the forum thread you speak of, especially since running a search from one machine or network can yield different results than a search ran on another network due to things such as location and isp tracking.  I see bits of talks in the thread here; http://cityoftitans.com/forum/unreal-engine-4-news, but it's a tiny word here.

I'm still searching but i'd been searching for a while today and thats all I found, so please if you know where to look i'd be happy to check it out.  But I have a life, I don't have all day to search for something when google literally isn't bringing up what I am looking for.

I'm not sure exactly what it is that you're asking me for. When I say "the talk" I'm referring to general buzz about the game. The stories on websites are just update stories and/or small interviews given. If you're looking for specific conversations about Unreal 4, other than the forum post on the CoT site, I don't know where else to direct you.

My whole initial point was that part of Missing Worlds Media's tech updates/videos showed off some things that were touted as progress and updates for City of Titans, however since U4 has become free and people have been able to poke around it's functionality and built-in tools, a lot of the supposed "progress" has in fact turned out to be out of the box ready made U4 stuff.

No they weren't.
They showed a video of new UE4 features. It had the UE4 logo all over it. You didn't honestly think that that UE museum was part of Titan City.

They showed some WIP buildings and statuary that they are modeling.

The people that do the updates threw together quick mockups of some aspects of the avatar builder, using placeholder figures. I doubt you thought that they modeled a new dummy for each series of updates.

I know I couldn't model, rig, and animate a fully morphable human figure suitable to use in a spiritual successor in a few months' spare time. If there's someone who can, they should have volunteered. As it is, I'm not surprised that they don't have a finished avatar figure to show.

IIRC, Nate posted on Facebook something to the effect of "doesn't matter how many times they say 'no.'  They only have to say 'yes' once."

The way I read it, he didn't mean TFHM was just waiting for a 'yes' on one particular point of contention.  The team had to keep trying until it found a deal that satisfied everyone involved.

While people have been stating their personal beliefs of where things are at, I'm trying not to have a belief in any particular direction.  There simply isn't enough information available to know whether the negotiations are completely stagnant, on the brink of success, or even if the deal has gone through pending some work to ensure the server image can be made functional.  I know where I want things to be, but I haven't seen any evidence to suggest where they actually are.

On a similar note, I don't understand why people are so negative about CoT right now.  How much would you expect to see at this point?  There is a looooong way to go in development, and the only reason we've even heard about the game this early is the manner in which it started.  Paying attention to the CoT forums does reveal plenty of evidence of preproduction work though.  It seems every time a thread pops up in the "Suggestions" forum about a possible subsystem, a dev comes along and says "We've already worked out that one, including having it run through simulations.  We just can't reveal the details yet."  It makes sense that it's much easier for them to reveal lore, because that isn't nearly so dependent on having the technical work practically done before being palatable for public viewing.

No I disagree.

What is happening is people are trying to force someone's hand to come out and make an announcement.

IBM was a master at FUD - Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. These are the tools of the trade for those trying to wheedle something out of you. The team is under an NDA - so using FUD to attack them on that didn't get a rise and so then they spin to attacking CoT.

It is not my effort. I do however support everything they are trying to do and will support them for as long as it takes.

Im too busy reworking builds to worry about it. I totally believe it will come back. Sooner or later..

I figure it will be a couple of months after opening that you could reasonably expect a supply of the mats and recipes to be available to make it happen. hit 50, start doing morality missions to get merits for lotg etc,  do a dr q for some quick merits.that dropped a bunch if I remember right. there are ways to speed it up if you do it right

Hi IW,

With all due respect, your comment about NDA's is largely incorrect, and directly refutable in the boilerplate one you attached.

Having signed dozens of them over the years, I have *never* encountered one that says "You cannot say you are operating under an NDA". What you *cannot* do is disclose material, proprietary information, or trade secrets pertaining to the NDA.

Every NDA is different. Like Arcana, I've signed NDA's before where I wasn't even allowed to say I was under NDA, or was even in any kind of contact with the company the NDA was with.  Sorry, but you're assumption is just that, an assumption.

Thunder Glove

I find this both hilarious and sad.

Hilarious that the negotiations are under a veil of secrecy so strict that we're not even allowed to be told that they're under a veil of secrecy.  This isn't nuclear disarmament talks or international trade agreements here, it's just a video game, albeit one we're all missing a lot, and yet it's being hit with more secrecy than many of those things.  It's so absurd, I have to laugh.

And, on the other hand, it's sad that it has to be this way.  Sad that all these hoops have to be jumped through just to be able to bring our beloved game back.  Sad that, even with all these hoops, the whole thing could still fall apart at any second.

I'll be happy when everyone stops signing documents about what can and can't be talked about in public, and actually starts signing documents to buy the game.

DR Q TF could be sped up with some of the following:

1. Star holder stays at the contact to get missions until the contact gives you their number to call them from anywhere. Saves time from having to commute back and forth to the contact.

2. The special team transport/teleport power: multiple members of the TF have it and use it to send the team to the next mission door,

Burnt Toast

I have worked under many NDAs. MOST of them required that I not even disclose I was under an NDA. Very few of them allowed me to say anything about the NDA...the company... etc.

The funniest part is that I am so used to not being able to discuss things, but it's always aggravating for friends/family/significant other because my answer to - "How's work going?" is always: Good. My mother hates secrets and it drives her crazy... "Good...really...is that all you are gonna say??"

OMG! I forgot I had alternate builds /w Telelport and Team Teleport...just for Shadow Shard TF's.

Dr. Q was the highest merit award but there were much better merit/minute choices, especially if you add the time it took to cajole/sucker/bribe 7 other people into a shard tf. Mantis, lg, the Treefecta and my personal favorite Morty Kal come to mind. and old posi if you insist on blueside. I personally can't wait to get back into my shameless merit whoaring.

....and generic reaction to him included.  I tried doing unto him as he deserved in tale of two wastelands and the fools made the jerk essential, sigh.  I wanted to launch him sky high with a fatman or blow him to pieces with a grenade machine gun.  Especially after the 5th story about a genious who cried like a little baby "Wha wha wha" and everyone laughed at him ending.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.
