Number9

ED was the right call.  I'm sure I'm not alone though in saying I was so glad when Jack was gone.  When the idea was floated that he and Cryptic might be involved in the Hail Mary team I just thought 'oh please nooooooo!'
Formerly of Virtue server: Number 9, StormBird, Magic8Ball, Fyv, and many others I care not to mention in the desperate hopes I get to recreate them and use their names once again.

I doubt he'd get involved. If it ended up back at Cryptic, I've a feeling it would end up back in Posi's hands.
Jack's made it pretty clear in the past that he'd done with City of Heroes.

I think someone should just make a quick CoH mod for Skyrim while we wait.

Quote from: HEATSTROKE on September 03, 2014, 02:34:40 AMAlso the question for me is maintenance mode and how it connects to APR.. if I invest that time effort an energy all over again.. does that mean those things will be ported over into APR should APR be successful... does APR then become CoH ??
How long will maintenance mode last ?? will that too be eventually shut down.. will I have to start all over yet again ??
1. I recall Irish Girl mentioned it will be attempted, but no guarantees about results.
2. If so then effectively yes.
3. Unknown.
4. It's unlikely the maintenance thing will stay online forever. Who knows how long it will take for a shutdown decision to be made, though? It could be six years in the future, perhaps even further.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

The real reason to be afraid of Cryptic being involved would be PWE sadly :(

STO and NW get updates I guess, but look at NW's business model, and how neglected CO is. Sure, more lockboxes and things you can pay for, but... I feel bad for the loyal fans of that game, it has not been treated especially well.

It's the sort of situation where like or not how he treated the CoH community... Jack gave us a great game on purpose or by accident, and it's hard not to feel sorry for how things turned out.

I don't harbor any resentment towards Jack. He made an amazing game...and with that he made some good decisions, and some poor ones. As does everyone. But those decisions were a decade ago. A decade ago, I thought a good decision was skipping school to play City of Heroes! :P

And I'm sure I'll make decisions in regards to Revival that people hate. Seriously, I know I'm going to get an earful from some portion of the community when it comes to the PvP ;P

I won't debate if ED was a good call or not.

I will say that ED was presented wrong and insulted the intelligence of the players.  "We'll give you more slotting options by taking some of your slotting options away!"

Hmmm that makes me wonder what you have planned for PvP :P... are you going to follow the CoH PvP system, or are you creating your own?

Oooh....Yeah. I think I'm going to hold off on THAT particular subject. I already know someone's going to be calling for my head on a pike no matter what I do with PvP. I'd like to delay when people start calling for my head on said pike.

One request here from a somewhat disgruntled on again off again player of another MMO that tries very hard to force everyone to do PVP and like it The only request I'll ever make about PVP, actually.

Keep it strictly optional..

Cailyn Alaynn

I....can't really imagine a scenario where It wouldn't be optional. So, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I think there are a couple MMOs out there that require PvP at one point or another.

It's like how I am about soloing vs teaming. One thing I loved about CoX was that you weren't required to team up just to get x power up or to x point in the story. If you preferred soloing, as I did up until the last few months of the game, you didn't feel like you were missing out on the game. So, if you were in a situation where no one was around to team with, or if you were just a little nervous about teaming, then you weren't hamstrung.

Once the choice for things like PvP or grouping is eliminated, you risk alienating a player base, and a potentially huge part of your community.

Well, I meant specifically that I didn't see it happening in CoH. Other games it might fit better, but CoH... Not so much.

Although you must keep in mind the mindset of a game designer: powers are a different system than enhancements. So he was technically right, in that powers did not change at all with ED.

Silly designers. As a game programmer, I know that enhancements are powers. So either Jack was talking out of his butt or he didn't know how his own game worked. :P

ED was still the right move, just badly handled from a PR point of view. Sometimes you have to man up and tell players that they need to be nerfed for the good of the game instead of trying to hide behind technicalities or handwave things away.

I condemned Statesman because he was a condescending asshole, not because he was Jack's character (although part of the problem was his Gary Stu-ness - he was Jack's 'baby' from before the game existed, just like Positron was Matt Miller's).

I started after ED, so I didn't hate Statesman because of Jack, I disliked Statesman because of Statesman, but as much as I disliked Statesman, he didn't deserve to go down to that hyped up gutterpunk Darrin Wade. The first collection of SSAs was not only a kick in the gut, but a kick in the teeth and a thorough curbstomping of any Blue morale you had left.
