Oh yeah.

It's hard to lose the things we had, but the chance to rebuild is a welcome alternative to what we have now, in my humble opinion.

Soooo on the same exact page with you there. I have all sorts of plans* that I really shouldn't have let myself formulate, but that's what happens when you've got few distractions and exciting news comes your way.

Mostly just wanted to use that as an example - I'm on the excited to rebuild side, but it's not a stretch that some people would feel too demoralized as though the news were losing everything all over again. Emotions are tricky things, and "it's just a game" is silly since games are the way a lot of people express themselves and cut loose - and that's emotional stuff! :)

Okay folks, be nice.  Don't make me summon Agge, she's tired and cranky from four days of PAX.  You know it won't go well if she has to get out her modhammer.

What's a Agge?

I never said anything like that.  No need to be rude.

Not getting something you wanted is normal here.   Every single one of us is grateful for Icon yet we want more....we want the game back.  Why aren't you just grateful for Icon?

I can not use Icon I had to replace my old PC to keep up with technology and it is wiped and became my Son's PC so I have no longer have COH Installed oh well here is to hoping the real fun stuff comes back shield charge for the win.

Remember, the COX forums got pretty nasty at the end too.

Until something concrete was said, everyone could pin all their hopes on the future. Now that people know what the deal actually is (as it stands now) there are going to be people who can't help but be bitter over what they've lost.

SpectaPhantom

I can understand why people want there characters back. It's senimental and fun for them. I am sorry people are treating yins poorly.

I'll gladly help level your toons should we restart. I don't think it would be terribly long if your dedicated plus I imagine there will be some sort of 2XP :). And there's still a possibility we may get it. He never said it wasn't gonna happen, just that it wasn't part of the deal at this time.

I personally want my SG back as I loved it.

Which was why people were trying, and still are trying, not to get people's hopes too high. Because there's lots of technicalities and problems and points of failure - the whole deal could blow up tomorrow for all we know. We hope it doesn't, but it could. TonyV's been preaching caution since day 1, and I for one am proud of him for it; it's a responsible approach in a time when it's easy to get swept up in the excitement, then let down by the reality.

We've lost nothing but hope. Everything we miss has been gone for two years with no clear prospect of return. Now, we have a real chance at getting some of it back. If people are burned out, they're burned out, and we'll remember them fondly. This happens. But if the game does come back, I can't imagine anything other than celebrating a long and ultimately successful struggle.

Number9

I was in beta and played for the first two years solid.  Then came back at least 4 different times.  I had many characters I was very attached to.  Guess what, I'm looking forward to the fresh start.  I'm looking forward to tons of names opening up.  I'm looking forward to starting zones full of folks.

Most of all ... I'm looking forward to playing CoH.  Lets not look a gift horse in the mouth.

I admit that a fresh start has an appeal, and also if the all the trial accounts are gone that will liberate many names.

Still if they can get the account data....

The "clean slate" people are easily the most rude on this forum.  Nothing but attacks for people who express the desire to get their characters back.    A person can say "I hope we start over from nothing" over and over and that's never "We get it...no need to keep saying it".

Nice double standard.

I am fine with a clean slate. that being said, I am fine if we got some or everything back
I will not be rude to you, there is no reason.

my first 50 was an energy/fire blaster..lousy combination. if I had gone fire/energy It would have been much better. I left 34 50's and 3 billion inf when they shut down..but I am ok if we just get the game back

HEATSTROKE

For me is more of the investment of time, effort and money again.. I am not sure at this juncture if I would do it all over again..

I would love to have my old characters because I have lived through their experiences.. I dont know if I could ever recreate the costumes properly (a lot of the costume stuff in Icon just doesnt work) and that would frustrate me if I couldnt get it to look JUST right again..

would I play.. absolutely..
is having something to play better than nothing to play.. absolutely..
I planned to make NEW heroes as well anyway..

Also the question for me is maintenance mode and how it connects to APR.. if I invest that time effort an energy all over again.. does that mean those things will be ported over into APR should APR be successful... does APR then become CoH ??

How long will maintenance mode last ?? will that too be eventually shut down.. will I have to start all over yet again ??

These are some of my questions..

Although the character data and source code are not part of the current deal, it is possible that could change.

I suspect the reason that character/account data will not be available has to do with the migration of accounts to other NCSoft games. If you played CoX until the end but maintained your account and play another NCSoft game, handing over account data would be a violation a bunch of lawyerly language. It would be a nightmare no company wants.

Yet I wonder if it were possible to verify your account info, including character data with NCSoft and then they could confirm your purchases to the new company. Then pii would be protected, character data restored, both companies getting kudos for caring about the loyal player and the interwebs would flow with apple blossoms and fairy dust.

Just because it is not on the table now, doesn't mean it won't be later.

I just want to see that table in action and things move....anyone have mind control powers? sure could use you

Even if the deal is for just an image of i23, I don't rule out anything further.  Perhaps if all is going to NCSoft's liking a year later (some money coming in for basically no effort on their part, good press from the return, etc.), then perhaps it might be possible to approach them to get the source code (including i24).  I can recreate my characters and my SG.  New story arcs in i24 that aren't in i23, well, that's what I consider the real loss here, but I'm not giving up hope.  At the very least, the Atlas Park Revival people might be able to include them in the rebuild, using the info in ParagonWiki.

It's a tired and cranky mod. I don't have a modhammer though. I just have this cool hat.

No worries.

Read this guide and start downloading so that you can rebuild your characters in anticipation. (Plus the popmenus and the like make screenshots far, far easier to set up than through the old methods.)

If the opportunity to get the source code, and character database appears... attempts, I'm sure, will be made to get them.

No, what we are saying (do try to actually listen), is that, yes, we'd love to have our characters (and loot) back as well.  But if that's not on the table, getting the game without them is better than not getting the game back at all.

Thank you.

I got a new PC last fall, now running Windows 8.1 (no tomatoes, please!). Of course, never installed CoH on it--prolly wouldn't have worked anyway, trying to validate serial numbers and whatnot. When I heard about the latest efforts that started in March or earlier (about a week or so ago, just in time to get really worked up before the announcement yesterday), I DLed the full Icon files and it all runs great! While it was nice to fly again, tho, it's a fairly lonely experience.
