Not to be argumentative, but I believe I read the post just fine.

First, they don't even have it yet - it *might* not be up at all...

<snip>

As a programmer in the computer industry (for 34 yrs) , and a server owner / game hoster, I had a
lengthy post on the (many) technical challenges of hosting a purely binary image of the game using
outdated server software along with corresponding issues with trying to run it on current OS's, but
realized that only a handful of folks would understand the technical issues, or be interested in discussing
them.

Instead, I'll offer my sincerest hopes that they can get I23 up and running, and that they're willing to
actually host and maintain it (as best as they can with a crippled installation) for years to come.

How long, and successful that will be, remains to be seen.

While supposedly they where virtualize on the servers so the hardware changing is not that big of deal as long as the virtual platform they run support the current virtual drivers from the snapshot and version.

I not sure if they where using VMware, xen redhat Linux virtual or what. I have supported VMware for years and we have kept older OS's running in VMware while changing hardware underneath with no issues

But if losing your characters is SUUUUUUUUUCH a big deal, it's not alot of effort to get them back.

IOs might be troublesome, but otherwise it's not too hard. :p

As long as my costume files work, I've still got my characters.

I fully agree here. In fact, a full restart would be highly useful. It will let me correct a few... issues... with some of my older characters (i.e. a rad/rad corr would become a rad/Pain to better fit with the character concept.)

Just being able to play again will be quite enough.
As long as somebody keeps making up stories for it, the City isn't gone.

I hear you.  My badger was a Fire/Devices Blaster that I created early on when I started in the game, but I was very, very tired of her (and rarely played her) by the end.  I was playing Controllers and Dominators exclusively as my playstyle evolved, and I'm looking forward to having a new alpha character / badger.

I'll never quite fully understand the (Frankly) stupid mindset of "No characters? This game is gonna suck then!"

Yeah, sure the characters will be missed and all, but the audacity of going "THIS SUCKS! THIS GAME ISN'T WORTH MY TIME" is just laughable. As opposed to what? Not having the character at all. You know, because the game won't be online

It's not like it takes just a week of try-harding to reach 50, or anything like that.

A week huh? Someone sounds like a slacker :D

They're distracted by your avatar, and it's waffleyness.

These eyes  -DO- tend to cause bowel evacuation.

BadWolf

OK. Now it's seeming real to the point where it's actually frustrating me, because I want to start playing it NOW. Despite knowing that this is an unrealistic and unreasonable request, despite being fully aware that a lot of wonderful people need to do a lot of hard work that I can't help with and it is unfair to even suggest the thought of imposing a timetable on them when they're doing something so nice...NOW. :)

My inner two-year-old needs a nap and a cookie.

Phaetan

Bad Wolf, no cookie.  ;D

I understand the feeling, but let's not get too workeed up until the ink is on the paperwork.

The moving avatars distract me. Movement, such as animated graphics, keeps me from concentrating on what I try to read. I have to hold up a hand to the screen to cover it. A lot of the time, I leave Javascript off in order to avoid that. :/ I'm not asking anyone to change them; just wondering if I'm alone in this.
Linux. Because a world without walls or fences won't need Windows or Gates.

This just in:   Everyone isn't the same.   One person's "laughable" might be really important to someone else.

For most of us yes.

This is a game where we actually celebrate (brag even?) about it's diverse playstyle possibilities.  That is considered to be one of its great strengths.

So this idea that everyone should now be in the same box with regard to how the game should be viewed is puzzling.  Now there are accusations of "not really loving the game" and being "laughable" if you place great importance on your characters.

Cool, you're upset you're losing your characters. Join the club.

Be grateful. If the fact you have to start over like everyone else irks you so much, to the point of not wanting to play the game anymore, go away. We don't care.
