Think the difference is he is actually getting text messages and phone calls. Of course idiots who actually text or called him are idiots for a reason and don't realize they leave a paper trail for the authorities to prosecute them for atleast disturbing the peace.

@Remidi actually I was always curious about this. Is there any legal ramifications for threats on someone lives even if they are shallow if they are sent via phone?

Yes that is fairly illegal actually.  Maybe not prison time illegal, but certainly more then a slap on the wrist.  But will anything come of it? Not likely.  It's a shame he is getting death threats over CoH.  That is insane, the guy may have ran his mouth a little too much but he hardly deserves to be threatened.

Shame on you to the CoHers that did that, it may be a great game.  But its still just a game.

Why would anyone waste their precious time to even do those things?

I see so many stupidities, and think this so often, that I think I figured out the real truth:
Some people are just stupid. ;)

http://www.plea.org/legal_resources/?a=303 - Death threats can result in up to five years in prison according to this site.

It hurts my heart that members of the City of Heroes community would behave like this. Seriously... remember the *heroes* part? I said it on FB, but I'll say it here too. Robert, I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. Even if the game *never* came back, it's not worth a single human life, so death threats are just about the stupidest reaction I could ever contemplate.

Ya they could, but I doubt they would get 5 years though for an internet death threat.  Although people should understand making death threats is like the last way to get our game back.  Now we just look like a bunch of over-zealous crazies to NCSoft.

Yes, threatening to kill someone is a crime.  It doesn't matter if it is face to face, on the phone, in an email or on any sort of message board, Facebook included.  It doesn't matter how much they say they meant it.  There have been cases where someone has threatened someone on FB and were shocked when the cops showed up on their doorstep.  There is an attitude out there that what happens on the internet "doesn't count", but I assure you it does.

It's worth pointing out that many states, mine included, feel a crime is in their jurisdiction if either the victim or the suspect are in their state.  And it's not impossible to have more than one law enforcement agency after you, since certain types of threats come under Federal law.

I wish I could have known that when I had the person who threatened to murder me on the phone when I was working for teletech.  Person specifically wanted me to give my last name(I didn't, thank god) and she was so out of control psychotic, I was left paralyzed on the phone shortly after the call.  Thankfully company policy was if someone was that over the top we didn't need to help them.  I documented the call as best I could but, even then, only action that could have been taken would have been someone picking up that call to listen to the recording(It was even the wrong department, so I was right to try and transfer, but then I couldn't get the number, I tried transfering to where I beleived she had to go, and then that department was down to).

I also remember a case where someone DID try to murder someone over a trivial thing over the internet.  Not sure if I had mentioned the counterstrike story here, but in the year 2020 a madman attempted to stab someone to death 20 times in france.  The reason, he was killed by that guy in counterstrike with a knife.  So he tracked the guy who pwned him down on just his ip, eventually found his name and where he lived, which was actually only some miles away.  So he drove there with a knife and attempted to kill him.  It took him 6 months to do that, to.  Insanity man, insanity.

Edit: Corrected, it was 2010.  Also a link to the article.

I defriended some people who had said the worst of things when the shutdown came.  Some of the idiots talking to robert, like, holy cow....

Truthfully, I'm left wondering about facebook.  It's clear even if they have their own real names, they forget their own actual names are on display and assume they are in an unmodderated forum where they are hiding behind an alias.  Not only are these people immoral and crazy, but also stupid as hell.

Robert got a couple of days of what I have gotten since March!

Its not fun dealing with unreasonable people. I have seen multiple posts just the last 24 hours attacking various studios and groups who may be trying to get the game. I have to ask - what the hell are you thinking?

If someone out there makes the effort to spend the money and time to try and get YOUR game back - you complain because they don't do like you want? I said all along - I won't second guess the team. They are taking the risk, not me. Once the announcement is made - I am saying nothing but - THANK YOU, no matter what happens in the end. If you find room to criticize someone now - WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU?

I did not want this. I am not a programmer or game developer. I picked it up and hopefully I can hand it off to someone who has more skill than I do to get it running and develop it further. Before you attack the new folks - answer me please where were you?

Ok are we talking like, some random company buys it and makes everything 30 dollars and also every player has to bald 24/7 because the CEO lost his hair in high school? or like; no further development maybe everyone restarts? Cause the second thing is reasonable/doable but the first. idk man;

According to what he wrote in the FB group, it wasn't on the Internet. They were texting him (which leaves both evidence and a trail) *and* calling him (which leaves a trail). That's offline, using telephone tech, so it's definitely not an "Internet threat" legally. It's crossed the line into a real-world threat.

Think this is one of the faults of living in such a interconnected world where you literally can have all the information at your finger tips in an instant. People want everything to function in the same way almost a Microwave version of the former self. Some people don't realize how many moving parts are involved in making such deals and don't look at the macro picture but focus on the micro aspect of just playing the game.

Amen Ironwolf.  Even if it is calm people still talk about what they think needs to be changed, or what they want to see in the game in order for them to come back.  I am sorry you have to deal with any kind of bull pancake especially when you were the one to take the effort and try and get the game back.  No good deed goes unpunished I guess.  Still I really wish people would just be happy there even talks going on.  It's not enough though, it has to be "The game has to come back this way" or "The game better come back soon" or "Ironwolf said the game is coming but now its not WHAT THE HELL." I wouldn't even blame NCSoft or the new developers for backing out at this point.  I wouldn't want to sell to, what appears from an outside eye, a rabid fan base.

I've said it several times but i'll say it again.  Thank you Ironwolf, I am very grateful for everything you have done.  Thank you for doing what I and several others didn't do

I completely understand how you feel Wolf, for me it is enough to know there is a team wanting to buy cox. I want to say thank you for everything you have done I can see how it has been taxing. And I want to say thank you for trying.
Those who are trying to derail I must assume they are not fans of this game and only wants to destroy any chance for a revival for our game.

Again I just want to thank you for all that you've endured and done for the community. Without the things you've done I'd probably still be silent on this forum, and without any real hope for the game's return. So, thank you. It really means a lot to me, and to a lot of the rest of us for sure.

I definitely agree with you - whoever gets the game cares more about it than I could have hoped. I doubt they'd sabotage it, or try to make it suck for the people who want it back most and will go out of their way to encourage others to play. That would just be stupid and a momentous  waist of time, effort, and money which very few people consider a good idea.

Makes me wish I'd been around earlier in this enterprise of yours to try helping in some fashion, or at least to try helping encourage civility. If there IS anything I can do to help, please feel free to ask.

Here's hoping that soon you can go back to just being another fan playin alongside the rest of us not having to deal with all of this guff.

I understand frustration - I think we all do - but you've done a great job setting an example of how to be a good member of the community.  Whoever is involved in the negotations, whatever the outcome, I wish them well.

Robert getting death threats... that really sucks. I was really looking forward to hearing about the news break, and was hoping I'd get the news from him or from Marut.

Someone on the Facebook City of Heroes page decided to openly mock him, and that really pisses me off. Because to DO that, they had to go past the Titan sticky he'd put up, and see that this is someone who clearly cares about the CoH community and is part of its leadership.

I find it disappointing that anyone would want to hurt a guy that just wants to be a part of something hugely exciting to all of us-- and wanted to share.

To those that are trying to get CoH back I thank you. To those that gave us the hope of giving us the information that we may get our city back I thank you. If I get my characters back that would be wonderful I always felt like I put a little bit of myself in each of the characters I made but I also know one of the bitter parts of CoH being closed down was feeling that those characters died or moved on to a different life. If I have to start over I will be fine. The money I paid before CoH was shut down was made to other companies not to (hopefully) our new devs. Yes I will miss all my vet rewards I played CoH from release to the bitter end but I will be grateful for the chance to log in and go into that wonderful costume creator and create/recreate my charaters and start fresh. In the end I feel this is a fresh start. I will look at it as a phoenix that has risen from the ashes to fight again.

I am curios if anyone knows what the "Top Secret" project that Cryptic Studios is working on? If you go here: http://crypticstudios.com/in_development it says they are working on a secret project. I'm not suggesting that Cryptic has anything to do with buying COH, but curiosity got the better of me. Anyone know what it is?
