Just a quick question about fitness pool.

Fable

I had read somewhere the fitness pool made "free". How did this effect leveling and slotting? Did it just mean you could get any of the abilities whenever?

It didn't become free, it became inherent. You had the run, leap, regen and recovery powers automatically, but you had to slot them up if you wanted more than the base slot in there.

I remember thinking it helped a TON (especially with end mgt), making battles more fluid (more non-stop action).  It wasn't quite enough to make up for losing perma hasten (pre ED), but it was nice.

Hope that helped.

The pool was taken by so many players that it became obvious that it needed to be made an inherent pool.
It takes a village to raise a child. And it takes a villain to explain the value of lunch money.

Yep.  It was, for me, the "Hurdle, Health, Stamina" run from 12-16 (iirc)... Every. Stinking. Character.

Three powers that basically had to be done automatically, so that was 3 powers I couldn't have later.

Sure, you could NOT get them, but... why?

Kinda ticked me off when they made them inherent, for I'd done very well even being 'shorted' 3 powers... Ah well.

Fable

I figured they would someday, I just wasn't around for it. Thanks for the quick responses guys.

It took forever but they finally admitted it had become mandatory powers when something like 90% of the players including casual none power gamers where even taking it they relented. I loved it after so many years of having to take them on a few builds I had no clue what to take with the few extra powers

The nice thing a few builds I got to take things like recall friend for fun in groups.

I felt the best thing about the Fitness pool going inherent (which was what, I want to say I18 or 19) was the way that in turn eliminated or vastly reduced the opportunity costs for other powers.  Granted, we didn't get more slots, but it was usually pretty easy to find a few one-slot wonders about which you'd been thinking, "Sure I'd love to put that on this character, but who's got room for that?" And suddenly, we did.  Good things.  :)

i usually needed only one additional slot on stamina anyway. very easy to find one slot!

I just discovered in mids that the fitness powers were down in the bottom section. I'd just been selecting fitness pool (they disappear when you) and going about my build. Looks like all the builds I made in that last month are worthless. Paying attention FTW..

Lets all take a moment to laugh at me.

Silly part is I would have made that joke without all the movies... and I'm betting you would have got it too.

I remember that very well...it was an exciting announcement.  My friends and I used to refer to the Fitness pool as "stamina slavery," and it was always a good day when you'd finally hit 20 and gain your freedom.  But total freedom from the Fitness powers was even better.  Since we all got free respecs along with inherent fitness it was a great opportunity to replan a few builds, too.

Inherent Fitness was one of many user-friendly decisions the devs made in the Paragon Studios era.  That and the team-wide SK system were my favorite things they did.

It kind of irked me when they changed it because then I had to waste time respecting all my 50's and other toons that had taken fitness. (Which was all of them). Good news was being able to take 3 extra powers not having to use them for fitness.
