I see the Knockback hatred and have to repeat, I used to run an ALL knockback team.

You were required to have Knockback, Disorient, Stun or other such power to get on the team and you HAD to use those powers. You could use non-Knockback powers but we wanted Chaos - pure and unadulterated.

It was by far the most fun I have ever had and once you get used to the fact that:

1. No bad guys can hurt anyone because they are all flying in the air
2. Everything dies really fast
3. Aggro control is completely unnecessary when they don't have time to move to shoot back

It wasn't nice and neat - it was glorious chaos. You felt incredibly super powered with people flying through the air constantly. My greatest memory was facing some elite boss and him getting hit by multiple people flying in the air and dying before he hit the ground. It was impressive.
Now that sounds like fun!   Force multiplier teams are one of the many things I miss.

The best education I had about KB was playing so many different AT's.   My first was an En/En Blaster so my education began on that side.   I was kicked from a team my first week in the Hollows for that reason (the leader took the time to tell me why).    I learned how unpopular KB was right away.

Then I started playing Controllers and found out how irritating it is when you lay down an ice slick only to have someone knock all the baddies off the slick.   I also found out that other Controllers never hesitated to immobilize the foes on your slick either.... 8)   So I had to learn to adapt and only use ice slick on teams where teammates were not negating it.  Supposedly, everyone loves knockDOWN...but it didn't seem that way!    ;D    It was an Ice/Storm...so I had the ability to do either one.

So that gave me incentive to learn to use KB in a way that would not irritate teammates.   I could either mock them for complaining, or understand how I would feel in their shoes....I chose the latter.   Hover, walls, and corners became my tools.   I probably gravitated toward Controllers because of a desire to help others perform better so that mindset was easy for me on a Blaster too.   The ability to control the battlefield on a Mind/Storm was more fun for me when my teammates enjoyed it too.

MWM has said from the very beginning even if CoH returned they would still work on developing a game.. so has VO.. bottom line.. there a gajillion fantasy genre games.. and kill a zombie games.. and shoot a guy with a gun via first person games.. and they all get made...

Why is it that we can only have ONE super her based game..

They should continue even if CoH comes back in full force, on fire, with rainbows and unicorns flying out of its butt..
I can see one reason to think "there can only be one".   It's because those other games exist for the sole purpose of replacing CoH and thus are not trying to be different as another SH game might.   Everyone is aiming for the same target audience.

No thanks.

I would rather everyone got their characters back.   I have zero problem with anyone who would want to delete all their characters and "start over on an even playing field" of course.  8)  It seems so much nicer to have the option to start either way so everyone can be happy.

Many of us don't need or want a clean slate. We might not have a choice in the matter. I'm sure we'll take whatever they give us, of course. But since we're making small talk about it, it may help some of you to realize why, for some of us, we feel the way that we do. This is all about different views and preferences. Many of you kept logging into City of Heroes for the gameplay, and names and costumes didn't so much matter. But for many others, our characters and their amazing, fictional lives and friends were the reason we kept coming back. Saying to us, "Oh, you can just start over!"--while true and I suspect will be accurate--may come from a luxury that you have not to appreciate what that will mean for us.
Well said.   I don't think some are thinking of implications of what it means to other players who do not wish a "clean slate" when they hope for such things.  (Maybe some do...the "I want everyone to play my way" types)  Some actually claim "it's about the journey, not the destination" as if they don't realize that is the way they liked to play...and that does not make it a law for everyone else.   Some of us liked the destination more.   Pausing at the login screen to decide what character I wanted to play from among a wide variety of choices was a nice comfortable warm feeling.   I do not relish the idea of only having the choice to start one new character from zero.

Some are certainly not giving much thought to the wish that everyone will lose their "loot".   The people who accumulated a lot of inf got that way for a reason which will not disappear with a clean slate.   They will be wealthy again in a short period of time.   A clean slate isn't really going to harm them that much.  Nor will it harm those who can acquire a lvl 50 in a couple of days.

People like me who got a lot of inf and lvl 50s through long hours through many years....not because I'm efficient...will feel that pain the most.   A clean slate pretty much means I'm 6 or 7 years away from getting back to where I was.  I will be looking for shortcuts this time though...so wishing for a clean slate is in essence just wishing for more pwlvling.   ;)

Is it just me or does anybody else start envisioning sonic blast attack swirls overlayed on this picture and some gangers being knocked around left of frame?

No...  I see some Longbow being knocked around to the left of the frame.

Should we start on a clean slate and I'm forming teams, i'll be primarily starting force multiplier heavy teams.  In other words, i'll be focusing on buffs/debuffs/crowd control rather than the typical trinity, so my teams will be killing faster, more efficiently, and safer than any stone tanker/4 fire blaster/3 attackless buffless empath def teams.  I won't be surprised if my teams have people hitting 50 far sooner fairly than alot of others who import tactics from other mmos :).

I imagine a gale knocking her into the pit she falls into in that movie.  Or a tornado.  Either way, storm summoners for the win.  Could also be an energy blast knocking her into the pit.

That one bothered me.   They could certainly still kill you.   So I wondered where the all important "risk vs reward balance" was on that one.   Seemed like it was only a problem if the reward outweighed the risk....never a problem if the risk outweighed the reward.

I know the two methods for farming that caused this to occur the most common one was inv/ss tank but the common theme foot stomp so the tank would sit just out of range of damaging the portal as mobs came out the tauntaura would pull them in while footstomp was set on auto and it was kill the mobs while they watched tv or ate a ham sandwich. It was an endless free cycle of east xp.

The other one was groups did this oe before you would activate the portals and have 100's upon hundreds of underlings heard them up for easy xp . You may be able to find picks like you can the dumpster diving days of the freaks show it was on par with that.

The first one is the main reason it was nerfed

NCSoft wants a product they sell to succeed. Their name (logo) will still be on it. They may possibly work an agreement to do a deal similar to the Cryptic one where they phase out ownership over a 2 year period - retaining the rights to the game until a set point is reached. I do know these are things that were possible - I don't know where they went from there.

My timeline in the first post really shows the main points I can talk about/know about. I know it seems counter to human nature but I am really a hands off type of person once work is being done by someone else. The game will belong to them, not me and so while I have given my opinion on somethings - I have stayed out of the way of them running the negotiations. Please understand also - I don't want any credit, TF, character or anything else from this whole deal except the game back - period. I don't want my ego stroked or anything else.

After the Massively article - more eyes will be here now. With things so close - I know they won't risk any further panic. It may be quiet for a while - I will ask for an update soon but they may not want it to be public knowledge. I hope you understand.

Oh I understand, believe me.   I'm just hoping while trying to not get my hopes too high just in case.

Still it was nice to dust off Mids and look up a couple of old blueprints, I never did get to finish my near perma recharge for Power Surge on electric armor toons...

The first one is the main reason it was nerfed

When you have a defense cap, and even a defense and resistance cap against an enemy type, your nearly indestructable, there isn't any risk for that.  Combine with heavy AoE and, well, it's trivial, so I could see why they had the damage cap, because the risk was actually extremely minor, especially when you can choose to fight enemies who have no counter at all to your defenses, a common tactic even in later days.  So with no risk and all reward, you kind of have a problem there.  Things like that also if I recall caused alot of extreme complacent gamer syndrome, in that anyone outside of the specialized builds for that were severely and unfairly punished with not getting into teams.  The same reasoning behind ED, the devs wanted players to play with other powersets than just a very narrow few and wanted people to experiment.

IO's coming out also encouraged experimenting.  If I'd played CoX before ED and the AoE nerf, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it at all.  Because everything would be about the same curb stomp everything by gathering them up because "that was the only way to play, everything else exists because it sucks" that, well, I left GW for a reason, that was the reason.

I once decided to fight a bunch of +4s on an invuln/MA tanker, they were council, they had no chance of killing me at all cause I had both defense cap vs smash lethal AND resist cap.  It was boring since I didn't have my AoEs but if I was level 50 against such enemies and they were 54 i'd had been butchering them without a sweat.  If there was no AoE cap i'd have been disheartened by it, in fact.  It's only funny at first know?

Same. I wouldn't want someone to deny me the OPTION of having my toons back in order to impose THEIR idea of "fair". If we get them back, the clean-slaters can delete theirs, and both sides get what they want. Sounds fair to me.
