Nyx Nought Nothing

Quote from: Illusionss on August 25, 2014, 05:02:50 PMAnd don't Invis the tank. OMG. Not unless your squishy self wants the aggro..... this was a surprisingly common tactic. Thank you God we could eventually dismiss such banes to gameplay.
Uh, just a quick FYI, but putting stealth buffs on tanks did not reduce their ability to draw or hold aggro. Except if someone with no stealth ran ahead of the tank and aggroed a spawn before the tank could reach them. Of course the end result was no different than if the tank was slightly farther away with no stealth when Runs Ahead Man jumped into the middle of the spawn.
The aggro mechanics were not affected by stealth powers once combat started. Well, Superior Invisibility was a blueside exception in that it actually did lower the user's rank on the mob aggro list, but since it was only usable by Controllers it's sort of a moot point.
So far so good. Onward and upward!

We probably aren't going to get anything until the deal succeeds or fails at this point.  We should be very close i'd think, but only the team would really know that.  We won't likely get any updates though, you can thank massively for that.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Let's not turn against Massively. They posted an article, and maybe it wasnt the best, but it wasnt done out of maliciousness. This is a public forum.

If any of the earlier updates werent worth the risk of being spread around the net they shouldn't be here, either. Unless we want to make this section of the forum members only, and then some draconian loyalty pledges, this is a risk we run.

Let's be glad someone thinks our game still matters enough to care even at this stage :) Obviously we think it does, but it has been dead for over a year with no official movement. That's usually not considered newsworthy.

Go figure.  Whats done is done in that case, it wasn't posted out of maliciousness I know and this was public.  The last update iron wolf gave was perhaps the best news, I feel, we would have seen at this point.  It's just we won't be seeing any more updates for a while, everyone agreed on that.  Not untill the deal succeeds or fail, at least to my knowledge.

Pursuant to nothing, I happen to be watching some BBC/BBCAmerica special on DVR that aired a day or two before Saturday's premiere, and the creation of the original theme from the William Hartnell era was being discussed, with the actual music playing in the background, as I happened to scroll by a post from Teikiatsu. I was struck by how eerily well the animation of his little figure dancing syncs with that piece of music. :)

You know I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk about the new Who premiere around here.  It was very cool

"These are attack eyebrows!"

And now I have to queue up the First Doctor's theme and one of Teikiatsu's posts....

I saved TK for AVs, mostly. I rarely used it when soloing, mainly because it seemed to function as an aggro-magnet.

I thought I was the only one who used TK :). It's effective in a team as well if you need to push folks back and  when you get a group in a corner and have effective blasters. Well lots of wonderful killing .

Reading everyone comments on how they played does make waiting for news easier for me. :) I just wish I could convey a few of my experiences from playing the game. Such as when I was on test for the rikti invasion and was teamed with Positron easily one of my favorite experiences from playing the game.

And now I'm thinking of bizarre behavior and a thing I did once.  Working an office building and I was tanking.  The others had set up a gauntlet in the hall outside a room and I was asked to run under the balcony, into the room and draw a few from the balcony back into the hall.  So I said, "Okay, I'll run in, do a little dance and come back."  So I ran in, triggered a dance animation, stood there dancing a few seconds and ran back.  And they were exclaiming in disbelief, "He actually did it!"

That just reminds me of something that happened to a friend of mine during the end of beta invasion.  The Rikti in this invasion were spawned manually, and the various Rikti Commanders were GM/Dev controlled, this was long before any of the invasion code was in place.

My friend saw one of the Commanders and went to right click n them, he wanted to see what info they had on them.  But he accidentally clicked on "invite to team" instead.  Well he accepted. I remember getting a tell from him flipping out that a Rikti was on a team with him.  Well after the fight ended, the Rikti went invisible and teleported away, supposedly to go start up a new fight. Gut since he was on the team, my friend could see where he went and he gave chase yelling "where are you going!? Don't you love me anymore!?"

At which point my friend got teleported to him, the Rikti quit team, pulled out his sword and killed him before tekeporting away again

I think 1 was well on it's way to being fixed with the new IO stuff that was being put into I24. With many of the IO sets they were putting in resistances. That would allow players to build like they did with defenses to get a pretty strong resist set on even a squishy char.
This didn't solve the whole if you go defense, then a miss means no mez for me thing, but it was a definite step in the right direction.

For  2, I think the devs would have agreed completely with you. After the powers were out there, they couldn't just delete them. I know I read this about PBU somewhen.

What I liked most about the devs, was that they were smart about applying changes to the game.  They knew that just nerfing something popular could drive some players away and they knew that just nerfing alone wouldn't fix gameplay balance.  They also felt stamina was to popular and regreted including it, but instead of nerfing or removing it they made it inherent, which in a way was a genious move on their part.  I think odds are if they did a pass for epics they'd have buffed all the ones that weren't being used, probably even made things more interesting rather than cause a huge backlash.  Unlike some other dev team on some other game where if someone says x or y is overpowered, they'd nerf it no matter how many people said not to do so.

Edit: I'm refering to paragon studios when I talk about the devs who'd listen to the players.  I'm aware of the pre-paragon studios days.

I lived by Mids.  I would not even consider creating a character without fully speccing them out in Mids and carefully analyzing the build to L50.  Only if they seemed viable and compatible with my playstyle would they actually be created.  Getting a character to L50 was a considerable investment of time and effort for me, so best to make sure I wasn't wasting my time before putting in all that effort.

Same here. I loved Mid's back when the game was live, and I love it even more now... it's the closest I can get to leveling up a character. Icon takes care of making a character, but designing the build is part of the fun of advancing a character.

I see the Knockback hatred and have to repeat, I used to run an ALL knockback team.

You were required to have Knockback, Disorient, Stun or other such power to get on the team and you HAD to use those powers. You could use non-Knockback powers but we wanted Chaos - pure and unadulterated.

It was by far the most fun I have ever had and once you get used to the fact that:

1. No bad guys can hurt anyone because they are all flying in the air
2. Everything dies really fast
3. Aggro control is completely unnecessary when they don't have time to move to shoot back

It wasn't nice and neat - it was glorious chaos. You felt incredibly super powered with people flying through the air constantly. My greatest memory was facing some elite boss and him getting hit by multiple people flying in the air and dying before he hit the ground. It was impressive.

My SG ran alternate night challenges to work together and level together on specific days, no TFs.  We all made wonky characters for these things.  My wife made a Storm/Sonic and made a FF/Sonic (and slotted for KB early on).  The amount of flying bad guys was glorious.  Madness Mages can't do much when they are being punted everywhere.

The SG challenge team lasted to about level 20.  We took our toons to 50 together.  We even took them into pre-i13 pvp, where they were surprisingly effective fending off the villains.

Yes. Because the one thing this thread has done is stay on topic. :)

I always wanted to get TK to work for me well, but I just never got the hang of it. My positioning was always slightly off of what I wanted. I'd only get three instead of the 5 I wanted in it, or they would slide on the wall.

It was one of two powers that I always wanted to get to that happy fun place but couldn't.

That and Artic Air. AA always seemed like it was going to do more mitigation than it did and the end cost made me sad. I had high hopes for my ice/thorn dominator but she stayed stuck in her 20s up till the end.

Getting TK to work well was really difficult, because of the slow repel. If the mobs would stand still where they were Held, it would be fine... if they would move fast, it would be fine... but as it was, it locked you into an angle so you would push them towards a corner, but it took several seconds to actually corner them. Given that the rest of CoH played in a very mobile fashion, being locked into small area in order to control where they went ran counter to the flow of how you played most characters.

It worked best if you TP Foe one of the minions right in front of you, then you have time to line him (or her!) up on the others as they come running in.

Generally speaking, I'd try to get about 30 degrees off the longest wall toward the corner I wanted them in, then let 'er rip. Yeah, it took WAY too much practice. I probably suck now that I haven't done it for 2 years.  :P
