That's certainly a factor, and I don't know the median income of your acquaintances.

On the other hand, almost ALL of the people I am referring to replaced their computers because either they had to (non-elective) or because repairing was not economically feasible - a very unwise investment.

So these were NOT people with tons of money thinking, "You know what? I'll just buy a new computer". These are almost all people who only bought a new computer because every other option was worse.

2-4 years - on average. Obviously, the better a computer you buy, the longer it may last - and vice versa.

This seems about right to me. It's about how often I replace mine (assuming nothing goes horribly wrong).

With the way that commercial (not indie as much) games are being developed as long as you meet the specs for the current console cycle you should be able to play just about anything. You might get upticks in performance and graphics by beating the specs, but if you are on a tight budget those should do.

In the old days PC's pushed the bleeding edge (and still do I guess) and there was a near constant need to upgrade something. Now days, the consoles set the specs and most develop for them because that is where the money is. It is cheaper, but I kinda miss when every game tried to push it further.

It absolutely is.

Side note: I just saw the movie "Lucy"... Pretty cool movie! The biggest thing I got out of it: If we are that good with special effects these days, I demand to see a really cool superhero movie based around someone like Phoenix! We have too many guy superhero headliners--Luc Besson just pulled off a good one with a woman headlining it... :D

My first villain in the game was Dr. Somnambulus -- his origin:

"Most people use only 10 percent of their brain power. I developed a means to harness 95 percent of my brain's power through sleep walking.  My colleagues laughed -- LAUGHED!  They said 'Dude, that's a total urban myth -- look it up on Snopes! Everybody uses ALL their brain power' THE FOOLS! I'LL SHOW THEM ALLLLLLL!"

First time I saw a trailer for "Lucy" in the theater I totally lost it, and my wife, who knew Dr Somnambulus' back-story, was ROFL right with me.

It takes a village to raise a child. And it takes a villain to explain the value of lunch money.

While we're still somewhat on the subject of system specs, I just squeezed 3 terrabytes on my laptop...

I could have put 4 TB on there, but I wanted one of the drive spaces to be a hybrid drive, so the computer would run faster. The biggest hybrid laptop drive right now is 1TB. I put a 2TB drive in the other bay. Yes! Plenty of room for growth!

I'm sure I'll wind up getting an upgrade in about 2-3 years myself, but this ASUS G75 has been great for a year for me already, and I gave my ASUS G74SX to my fiance to use (that one's at least 2 years old), and it's still going strong.

Definitely plenty of room to have my current games, classic CoH, and CoH2 for the future! ;)

Here's a prescription from Dr. SkullPunch or Professor HeadSlap, whichever he picks.

Did he major in retrophrenology, by any chance? :)
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

I shall cry with you.  :gonk:

Then I will start watching the original Wonder Woman TV series again from the start... and maybe cry some more that they never made any live-action casting attempts of the character after that that didn't make me throw a fit.

And maybe I'll watch the Supergirl movie later... pretty much doing whatever I can to occupy free time while we wait on CoH news.  :-\

Doctor Skullpunch sounds good. Authoritarian with a hint of violence. Ok more than a hint
