/em Starts to figure out the logistics of buying people in the US donuts from the UK...

Just stop in at Drenched Donuts in Faultline.  There was a Dev lounge in that region anyway, so its conveniently close.

Oh my, Starbucks and Coffee Bean won't do it, but Dunkin Donuts will!

Yeah, I was just on there....   For a donut shop, finding their donuts ain't easy, and nothing about international ordering!

I was thinking of something more... real!

Hey Ironwolf, are you local to any of the team? Is there a donut store nearby (silly question really!)  ;)

You know, I am not sure!

I know they are mostly working in a virtual manner with programmers spread over the world/USA and so I don't know if any are near me.

Noes! Virtualisation sucks! (sometimes).

That does it.  Now they're getting cake, as soon as they have an office!

Not to worry.  We are many and are also from all over.  I'd think it highly likely we can find someone willing to bring donuts to each of them wherever they are.  Put me down for the greater Minneapolis/St Paul area.

Please hang on - I have not been doing this for recognition (I get enough of that from my kids and grandkids) and the reward i want is to be standing in Paragon City - soon TM. I am paid enough watching the posts and seeing the excitement. I feel the same way but just can't let go as much :) - I have to keep a handle on my own growing confidence that this will work out. It is NCSoft's decision to make but they have put a lot of time into this just to suddenly say - no.

It also is much like the hobbits found out adventures are not always easy and fun. When I picked it up I asked myself many of the questions and self doubt that others have mentioned. I realized it was dead if no one picked it up and so like Sam, I put the ring on for a few miles. I also now understand how the Devs of games feel when talking to players. Finding that passion can be shown by doubt just as much as cheerleading.

I promise, with all my heart, NOT to give you a big wet sloppy kiss! ;)

It's not for recognition, but appreciation for your efforts. Success or not with the deal, you and your team show what dedication can accomplish and it is a nice see. Just take a rain check on donuts and coffee xD

Just as an aside, I've seen the phrase a lot recently and didn't know what it meant, so I just Googled it.

Now I wish I'd stayed ignorant! :p
Unicorn on Titan is different than elsewhere. The word "troll" used to be automatically replaced with "unicorn" because we had a short period just after sunset where everyone was accusing everyone else of being a troll, and it got downright stupid. So no one got to accuse anyone of being a troll.

The Titan community took it to heart and now even though we don't have the filter, some people are still using unicorn. :)

Thus trolling = unicorning.

((EDIT: "Trolling" was still on the censor list. lol))

I missed a part - the code is likely not going to be "worked" developed past Issue 24.

Some of the tools to do so were custom made and not in NCSoft's posession. What would be possible is to run the game at Issue 24 and continue development on CoH 2 using the UnReal4 engine. I think you are seeing some of the posts and reading into them what you want to see. Due to NCSoft linking game accounts across all of their stable of games - account information is highly unlikely to be recovered, it also is information that is 2 years old and many emails and credit information have changed.

The character information is possible but the main point now is NCSoft asked the team to prove they are technically able to run the game. Once that is finished then further bargaining will happen. You can take a seat and heckle if you like but it won't stop me. I know where it all rests right now and either way you will hear what is happening.

Hi Ironwolf,

As always thank you for the update and being a voice of reason during this highly exciting time. I was wondering if you could further explain one point you made. When you mentioned character information were you referring to NPCs and NCSoft licensed characters or user generated characters? I was part of the pool that just assumed login/account info would be completely off the table (most likely because its gone) and thus all characters or "toons" created by users lost. Really curious which one we are referring to.

Fingers crossed the old adage "No News is Good News" as we all hangout and wait on the day to day. Its not Atlas Park and I am one of the quieter members but it has been nice getting to pop on this thread and talk to other CoH'ers.

In addition to the use of "unicorn" to replace a more-inflammatory word, there is also the use of the word "pancake" to replace a profanity. Personally, I find this choice unfortunate, as I LOVE pancakes. However, I totally loathe grapefruit, and would have no objection to that word's becoming a profanity. :)

User generated characters, might be available. The deal may not include the source code - for whatever reason, but a disk image or snapshot of the game would have it as it was last used on all the servers. The trouble is I don't know how easily this is retrieved. Obviously you can find a server running comparable software/hardware and just run the image. At that point you have to reverse engineer everything to capture the code and user data. I am not the guy who knows how to do much of that save load it on the server and set it up.

I am not a code guy except for getting an A on a C++ class in college. I am a good troubleshooter not so good at writing code. If you have any skills in this sort of field or know someone who does they could likely give you a better idea. Knowing the game is mostly written in C, and with some added database stuff like LUA at the end kind of lets you see how you would unwind it. What type of complier they used should be a fairly easy question to answer from a former Dev. Once you have that you should be able to start unwinding it.

Well ironwolf, if seeing excitement and getting thanks is payment enough allow me to give you a raise.

I have been struggling to find a game to keep my attention like CoH used to. Been trying since it closed actually. If you see one of my other posts you would know that i am a controller at heart, and no game out there can fill the shoes CoH gave then took from me. No game runs control powers like this did. So seeing that it's a very real possibility that i can once again try on those shoes is the biggest thing anyone could ever say to me. Champions fell flat, especially in the control department. Moreover i will be seeing each controller main to 50 and palling around with all lowbies and vets alike to show how great control can be ^_^

To add to this, my girlfriend is into games, but mainly casual style games. Her favorite being the sims, and any game that has a sizable amount of customization. The one thing i remember most about CoH is that both hardcore MMO players and casual players alike loved this game. I feel that this is not only the game to get her into the MMO scene, but something to play together at great lengths. So when and if this game gets back into our hands you can expect at the very least two very happy people. As a side note, i can only hope that the new developers are willing to listen to suggestions on changes or tweaks to classes (earth and ice control's immobilizes giving knock immunity while having strong knock abilities within the same powerset being an example). But that's another story for another post.

Thanks a million for spearheading this and possibly being a big part in getting this game going again for us all.

Hope to see you in game,
Lusid

User generated characters, might be available.

Been trying to figure out the logistics of pairing up players with their characters while lacking account information.  I'm getting flashbacks from The Thing...

MacReady: Somebody in this thread ain't what he appears to be. Right now that may be one or two of us. By spring, it could be all of us.
Childs: So, how do we know who's super-human? If I was an imitation, a perfect imitation, how would you know if it was really me?

I do not envy the team that herculean task!

Though that originating on the CoX forums if I recall.
