I'm headed into Icon to figure out what I want to build for my new alts -- and I want to explore more name tricks for when all the good names are grabbed again ;)

One of my absolute favorite characters to play was a Plant/Storm controller with the Earth epic pool. He was a nature-loving hippy child of millionaire parents who went on a world-wide nature excursion, visiting all sorts of exotic places and ended up laying down for a nap underneath a very old tree. This managed to catch the attention of an ancient nature spirit (who he liked to call Grandfather Oak) who chose him as his new avatar. When he woke up, he had the power to bend nature to his will, summoning life from the ground, calling down storms, and controlling the power of the Earth itself. It worked really well as a concept character, and in practice I've never had a more effective controller. He could lay down an AOE hold, drop a tornado on top of the mob, summon up a thunder storm and carrion creepers, and before I could click on my next power the entire crowd was dead. That's not even touching on the flytrap pet, ice slick, gale and confusion spores to mitigate damage. Add in stone armor and steamy mist for defense boost, plus some hard hitting earth attack and he was a tanky fellow too.

It doesn't have to be a plant creature or Poison Ivy clone, it's just as easy to make a nature mage, an alien who's species is florakinetic, any number of things. Heck, you could go full Weather Wizard and make it a character with advanced nanotechnology that allows them to control plant growth and manipulate atmospheric conditions.

I still regret never rolling up a Nature Affinity toon to play with it. I was considering making a Nature/Water defender that was some kind of forest nymph or something. There are always a million and one ways to justify a toon's concept, and so many power combos that you can make more anything you can imagine. You could even make a Nature/Fire defender who has some kind of power over the cycle of destruction and creation, burning away the old and impure and bringing life back clean and refreshed. You just have to give it a little thought. :)

I admit, when I created new toons, I tended to stay within a sort of "safe zone" for concepts. There's generally that wide area of cliches that people try to avoid but I tended to adopt a little of at least one of them for myself because it doesn't feel that way when you're performing it yourself. The negativity surrounding cliches tends to be external rather than internal and you rationalize it as "I don't care what the other person thinks, I'm having fun with it."

Towards the end, a lot of my characters shared similar or same personality traits because I liked what I made but didn't love any single one enough to stick with long enough to commit to eventually RPing with it and progressing their story. So I spread the traits to them all subtly based on what I was feeling at the time. I treat most of my favorite characters as extensions of myself and what I can relate to. The upside to that is easier personal investment, the downside is you'd rarely see more unconventional or diverse characters from me.

It was a combination of burnout too by that point... as upset as I was that the game was going to close, I was running on empty as far as it's appeal went. All my friends had left the game years prior and I just didn't have it in me to try and forge new friendships. I found myself logging in just out of habit even if I didn't really feel like playing. But absence does indeed make the heart yearn. Enough time has passed that I want this game back with a vengeance. And I do think I've changed a fair bit since it shutdown so hopefully if all goes well, I can come back reinvigorated with new ideas and a rekindled sense of adventure. :)

I have been doing nothing but making build after build after build in Mids. I'm working under the assumption that we will be starting over with a blank slate and trying to make the builds as powerful as I can without purples, AT enhancements, and pvp enhancements. I think there should be sections like on the official forums for each AT where one can share and critique builds...discuss the AT etc...


If this type of section already exists... my bad.. and where is it LOL!

Remember you get a PVP IO with out ever doing PVP or auction house do the alignment missions and take the points and purchase the pvp io takes some time but it can be accomplished

I would love to get mids updated to the IO changes that where in i24 beta with the resistance and mez changes on the IO's and also getting rid of the xp debt reduction on the IO's

I also forgot with the PPM changes on proc where you place a proc can matter I wish I still had all the notes from the PPM changes

Random reply; I am trying to work out what my main hero is gonna be. She used to be ice/ice defender, but I complained every single XP point of that, so wanna do something new. She's kinda Men in Black-y so was thinking weapons of some kind. Dual Pistols is out because it's way to.. extravagant... for her. What are people's opinions on archery, assault rifle and beam rifle?

She's an ice mutant, so I want to keep ice in there. Ice domination is nice, and people generally like the buffs, but yeah. She doesn't necessarily have to be a defender either, she had an alt version that was a blaster, and that was a blast! As it were. All dem decisions!  :gonk: ....I'll go play in Icon XD

 If Ice is your theme.. you have lots of options.. Controller and Dominator would be two I would consider.
