Everfreefire

The more I think about it, the more I know what I am going to do when the game is back up.

First things first, I would remake a hero. Either my Archery/energy blaster or my SS/Inv Brute, get them to the point where they have fly again, and just fly.

Once I was done with that for the time being, it would be time to head villain side. I'd remake/make new MMs, one of every primary, get them to 32 minimum, and do one of my favorite things I could do in the City.  Mayhem Missions with all 6 minions and both upgrade on them.

That was my stress relief when the game was up. I really do miss it.

The Big Bang Theory always used to have CoH boxes and stuff in the background... When we come back, make sure they know about it! The characters in that show -love- superheroes!

I could see the gang using it to encourage someone who's trying to take on an overwhelming task. "Underdogs really can be victorious," "bad decisions aren't always final," "determination pays off in time." There's all sorts of ways they could work it in as a relevant anecdote, if they were of a mind to.

You expect a moral? This is Big Bang Theory you are talking about here: Penny will walk in on the 4 guys (and maybe even Stuart) all armed with laptops and tapping away furiously and she'd say something like "Should I even ask?" Leonard will answer smiling with that neck stretching I'm-about-to-inform-you-about-something-awesome-you-won't-get look "We're playing City of Heroes again. They just brought it back." Penny will frown and  respond "Wait, wasn't that the game with the flying people wearing funny hand mittens?" Sheldon narrows his eyes at her. Rajesh suddenly blurts out "Hey, somebody just said my hero 'Lady Cat Angel' looks hot!" while grinning like an idiot and bobbing back and forth. Howard looks horrified at this and switches his gaze rapidly between his screen and Rajesh, slams his laptop shut, and storms out saying "I *really* have to spend more time with Bernadette." End scene.

As the others that commented.  As soon as I saw TBBT at the beginning of your post, my brain started the scene up in my head.

Yep!  That is how it would go.

Well done!

Heheh...anyone take you up on it?
Sadly, no, mainly because the announcement killed my mood.  The joke no longer seemed as funny :(  I wound up never playing her.

From what I understand, there was a Wind Control set in the works.

Wind/Storm controller, anyone?  :)
It's all in City of Data, though Icon shows that it has no real animations yet (it's all placeholders from other sets).  Still, I'd love to make a Wind/Storm Controller or a Wind/Elec Dominator.  (I love Electric powers, but my Elec/Elec Dominator never really gelled for me the way my Grav/Elec and Earth/Ice Doms did)

For the longest time, I couldn't come up with a CO single-blade character idea that I liked enough to keep, until I made a CoX Cimeroran soldier. Conversely, I never really had a robots MM in CoX that I was happy with...until it just occurred to me to adapt my CO gadgeteer. And now, I want the game back so that I can make him!
The only CO character I made who I really enjoyed playing was based on my mad scientist Bots/Storm Mastermind, redone with powers from Gadgetry, Wind, and Electricity. I was going to add Command Animals for even more pets (because when you're building giant robots and weather control satellites, cloning some dinosaurs is the next step, right?) but the game ran so slowly that adding extra pets just made it unplayable.

SO Ironwolf here is my question.. what is the breaking point? Does this new team have a minimum requirement to purchase CoX should Nc Soft decide to sell it? Do they believe they have the right people in place to reverse engineer the game should the source code not be located? Do they believe they can construct or acquire the right development tools? It seems to me that not having access to these things at the onset are major issues.
These are among some of the things they have to prove to NCSoft as a condition of sale. It is going to take a while to get through all of the conditions. Obviously if they lack somewhere we have to hope NCSoft allows them to fix any area they feel is not quite good enough yet.

Warworks, an Envenomed Dagger, and a tray full of reds on a REALLY pissed off Brute is what did it for me.

While soloing GMs is an interesting benchmark of a character, I really don't consider it nearly as relevant as soloing "AVs in general". The reason is that GMs generally have only attacks that do either Smash or Lethal (mostly Smash), so it's possible to defend against them just by capping S/L defenses. They also often rely just on damage rather than having debuffs, so you never run into the Positron-Problem (fighting Positron on a Defense-capped character who doesn't have strong Defense Debuff resists will get you killed, because soon as he hits you once, he'll start hitting consistently until you die). Or into a Psy-damage GM. It's basically a question of "Can you defend against S/L damage, and do a lot of -Regen debuffing", which is a lot more restricted than "Can you defend against all types of damage, some debuffs, and do a good amount of damage (with or without -Regen)". GMs are harder to KILL, but a lot easier to tank than AVs in general. Sure, SOME AVs are not that hard, but if you can say "I can generally solo ANY AV", I think it says more for a build than "I can solo GMs", because the tools that GMs use are a lot more limited.

I do understand - but also realize the financial and data guys they are working with had little to nothing to do with the first decision.

You can't blame these folks for being professional. They have to make sure their company is properly represented. Whatever happened 2 years ago doesn't affect necessarily with who they are dealing with now, does that make sense?

Here let me try it this way - I know quite a few Russian people, they aren't Vladamir Putin and don't always agree with his decisions. You can be tied to an organization and not reflect past or future decisions. The past reasons to shut the game are not the same as the ones to restart or sell it.

This is true, many companies do make "Strategic Mistakes" and most of the time they learn after the fact. Only real good from a business stand point is using this as a case study on how not to alienate your customers. I did present the CoX NC Soft as one of my case study for my MBA dissertation showing the importance of customer relationship with something that so emotionally attached. I also tied it in with what people thought about "New Coke" xD

Yes.  I can imagine we're in the delicate part of the dance.  Let's hope both teams can navigate any potential land mines.

When I hear of the new team getting the old game and IP at a 'doable' price...

...I can't help wonder at the craziness of not selling to Paragon and backers two years ago.  The team was in place.  The game was up and running.  There was the best part of 75-100k worth of subscribers and the game itself was making a profit.

But like you say, maybe it was small beans compared to the Nexon/NC Soft 'merger' of the time.  But still, they're surely going to get a lot less for it now...why not cut it loose back then..?

'One signature away.'

It seems like madness on retrospect.  But I guess that's my CoH subscriber viewpoint.  They'd have parted on better terms with their American and European customer base if they'd have just let CoH go.

I'm just like everyone else.  I just want to play.  (Sure, I'd like my old alts back etc.  And it peeved me I was one token away from claiming the Celestial Vet set before Paragon pulled it from the store...but I'm quite happy to pay an accounting fee to reclaim any admin' to get the alts back...or simply?  Just start again.  I didn't have millions of alts, vet perks, purple builds, billions in influence etc pre: Ed.  I just loved my perma-hasten en/en blaster...)

And on that subject.  I had a great journey with my Elec/Elec Dominator.  Blast.  Blap.  Scrap.  Dominate.  Control.  Pets. (4 of them including the Mu...)  Enjoyed the 'AV' journey for the Patron set.  Seemed to take ages.  The most difficult thing I'd ever done solo.  4.7 billion spent on the build and I still didn't manage to cap out defence.  (Didn't want to lose half my powers to achieve a 'hatchet' build...)  I liked the idea of being slightly vulnerable in a fight.  The fun bit was getting perma-hasten back...which I hadn't had in years and the perma-domi was a riot.  Awesome power.  I was well shield by a bank of pets.  Sleep.  Energy drain.  Electric Fences.  Static shock.  Confuse...  Sound fx that sounded like 8-bit racing games or flies.

Pulling legs off a spider?  Amen.

Villain.  'You can't mez me...'

Me.  'Yes I can...'

...and I could never come up with the rational for a plant power based alt.  Until I was playing around with Icon the other day...

Azrael.

Ironwolf

Let me see if I can put this in a different light.

If we have a group who decides to close a game based on decisions at the upper management level. They would do so based on a lot different reasoning than you would sell an older closed product on. To sell the product you want to know - is it a good price - will the game reflect on our company in a positive light - what future plans does the company that buys it have? Will they be just buying it and flipping it?

The people selling it can't be criticized for doing their job properly. What if they sell the game and the buyers start a big hate NCSoft rally? This is why the general public screaming from the mountains that they hate NCSoft on Facebook and in videos posted on Youtube - doesn't help us return the game. I really do understand the feelings and in the past I also said I won't buy another NCSoft game until they return CoH to service. That sentiment doesn't help with what is happening now. NCSoft is serious about selling it or it would not have gotten this far. The guy in charge of selling it is doing his due diligence.

Pretty sure that if they don't outright HAVE the people to reverse engineer the game, they KNOW where to recruit them.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.
