On the plus side, you won't be seeing a ton of these in game soon. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8297752/starlord.jpg

Right, she's all that ever came to mind for me and I'm not really a fan of the character so it became harder and harder to rationalize the premise of the powers thematically in other ways. I saw plenty of plant creature characters and similar things but I never really liked doing non-human toons, I'm boring like that.

Though it's just occurring to me now that I could have mixed Nature Affinity with Earth Control and used that to flesh out the range of the toon's powers.

One of my absolute favorite characters to play was a Plant/Storm controller with the Earth epic pool. He was a nature-loving hippy child of millionaire parents who went on a world-wide nature excursion, visiting all sorts of exotic places and ended up laying down for a nap underneath a very old tree. This managed to catch the attention of an ancient nature spirit (who he liked to call Grandfather Oak) who chose him as his new avatar. When he woke up, he had the power to bend nature to his will, summoning life from the ground, calling down storms, and controlling the power of the Earth itself. It worked really well as a concept character, and in practice I've never had a more effective controller. He could lay down an AOE hold, drop a tornado on top of the mob, summon up a thunder storm and carrion creepers, and before I could click on my next power the entire crowd was dead. That's not even touching on the flytrap pet, ice slick, gale and confusion spores to mitigate damage. Add in stone armor and steamy mist for defense boost, plus some hard hitting earth attack and he was a tanky fellow too.

It doesn't have to be a plant creature or Poison Ivy clone, it's just as easy to make a nature mage, an alien who's species is florakinetic, any number of things. Heck, you could go full Weather Wizard and make it a character with advanced nanotechnology that allows them to control plant growth and manipulate atmospheric conditions.

I still regret never rolling up a Nature Affinity toon to play with it. I was considering making a Nature/Water defender that was some kind of forest nymph or something. There are always a million and one ways to justify a toon's concept, and so many power combos that you can make more anything you can imagine. You could even make a Nature/Fire defender who has some kind of power over the cycle of destruction and creation, burning away the old and impure and bringing life back clean and refreshed. You just have to give it a little thought. :)

I love Allie Brosh!

You know, in a fan way. Not a stalker one.

*sigh* I miss my Kin/Ref Stalker, Wounded Dragon.

Speaking of Nature Affinity, I'd created a Nature Affinity/Water Blast toon near the end that I'd have liked to level more and really explore those powersets.

Yet another one whose name I don't recall offhand, dangit. It was kind of clever, though. I'm sure of it.

After much consideration, I have decided that Bacon ingots should be the standard of our ingot exchange economy. Everything should be valued on how much more or less it is appealing than Bacon.  8)

Are we there yet?  ;D

Only problem with that is I'd always be poor because I'd eat my currency.   8)

Or, for that matter, watch "Chuck".  A rack of City of Heroes or -- more often -- City of Villains boxes is prominently displayed in the background ridiculously often when they're in the Buy More.  Yet another big  missed opportunity, especially given how open the show was to blatant product placement in exchange for a little positive publicity (such as what Subway brilliantly pulled off with them).

That said, though, I don't see this as an either/or thing.  Advertising DOES need to be done, and done intelligently.  But having as many of the old-school die-hards out there as you can win back over talking things up doesn't hurt, either.  After all, that word-of-mouth help keep the game afloat for years.  (It sure wasn't the advertising budget. :p )  The two together would be all the more effective.

The Big Bang Theory always used to have CoH boxes and stuff in the background... When we come back, make sure they know about it! The characters in that show -love- superheroes!

From what I understand, there was a Wind Control set in the works.

Wind/Storm controller, anyone?  :)

Any numbers on how good the saturation is via other means? An add on a site like Penny Arcade? Those interviews with gamer websites about upcoming expansions? NW was doing a lot of promotions where a gamer oriented website would be issued codes to give to the website subscribers that unlock titles, pets, and costume parts (technically they are still doing it but less frequently in favor of internal "giveaways" tied to buying things): How well do those sort of things do for bringing in new customers?
Depends quite a bit on where the add is featured on the site, how long it's run for, if it's part of a rotation... I can't really give any solid numbers on that one, except that yes, you will be reaching more people than word of mouth would alone. Youtube is big these days, and automatically associates advertisements with a user's preferences. It's a bit more expensive, but they've got a pretty good system.

Giving out codes and things is a pretty safe bet, especially if you can do it at the retail level. Stores *Like* cross-advertising. If you put out the CoH "Resurrection edition" at Wal-Mart, a CoH "Ascendant Edition" at Gamestop, and the CoH "Special Edition" at Electronic Boutique, you'll see standies and banners hung in the game section, and that's what most of the larger game companies do to boost numbers.

Of course, the best way to get a higher saturation is to pursue multiple avenues of advertisement. While the majority of the MMO market is going to see a month-long storefront ad campaign, if you threw in a Youtube add and timed the launch to coincide with a superhero movie release, you're going to see both more people aware of the game, and more people interested in buying.

That gets expensive, though. I'd suggest speaking with an advertising consultant familiar with the field in order to get the most bang for your buck.

One thing I can say with absolute certainty, however, is if you spend money on advertising, you WILL get better sales figures than if you do not.

I am lead to understand that Dark Armor or Aura has a regen debuff and that's the one you need and it it's better against some rather than others. I think Adamanstor? Someone who knows will undoubtedly correct me.

I realize that, but no one official said anything about it so I wanted something to point to when I have to nuke posts later.

Also, I am quite aware of who the rabblerouser was but didn't want to have to call them out specifically.  I felt Ko's post was respectful and addressed all the folks who were involved, to one extent or another.
Ah. OK. Never mind then.

Warworks, an Envenomed Dagger, and a tray full of reds on a REALLY pissed off Brute is what did it for me.

I used to have a proposal floating around for having a playable archetype of a sentient PPD hover drone: Basically a floating blaster with decent armor and some holds (net guns and such). Customization would only amount to different textures / accessories (and maybe options to look other flying drones like the like the Zenith Hoverbot, Arachnos Drone, and Rikti Drone). And emote options were of course non-existant (you could bob around convincingly I guess) but the notion of playing such a thing amused me.
Make it happen! :D
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

Her name was Zyloe, and she'll be one of the first characters I remake should we start from scratch. She was a Electric control/Psy Assault dominator. Perma Dom, Hasten, and Drain Psyche. I would sap the gm of endurance and 0 out their regen and endurance recovery. All in all I could solo a GM in 15 minutes with her. The easiest was Jurassik and the hardest was Jack in Irons. Unlike most, especially Babbage, Jurassik didn't run which made it easier.

Jack had a damage aura that cost no endurance to power. That by it self was not a big issue but coupled with the inevitable miss of DP could prove deadly. Never got the opportunity to try the... Can't remember the name Titan something the giant white robot from Malta, or the reside GMs. I tried the Winter Lord? Once but his slows made my first attempt a failure and wasn't able to try again. I have pics of the GMs I soloed and will link them after I get to my Computer.

Here's a screen shot I took with a freshly defeated Kraken:
