If I recall Black Pebble correctly, the CoH ad budget was precisely zero.

Well, gee, MY budget was zero and I still got a whole slew of vids done for them... *grumbles*

I think in that case they should have pushed community efforts more. Doing shoutouts in the daily news of awesome SG events, the best AE arcs to try, and the coolest videos on YouTube would have at least shown anybody stopping in that the community was alive and active, which is a big attraction on an MMO.
Well in a lot of ways it sounds less creepy then saying you are pulling on your tights, stylish cape, and external underwear.

There, however, I will point out that with the exception of ONE community mod/manager/people types, the Paragon community folks were great about mentioning CoH videos (provided, of course, you were willing to point them out to them in the first place). It's why I pushed so hard for a Multimedia/Fan Videos section on the forums, and why later on, the mods would routinely troll through it looking for vids.

Zwill and Hit Streak were fricking awesome about making sure they ended up on the CoH facebook page, mentioned them in the Dev Coffee Talk livestreams... then there was the CoH Commercial Contest a few years back (Leandro took first place, I took second).

But yeah, with all that said, I hope to Christ that The New Powers That Be budget SOMETHING for advertising.

I think using a little logic we can make the guess that if the game is of a disk image of the last time being played - it will have all the login character data. Now - the trouble becomes separating it from everything else. It "may" be possible to fire it up and start to reverse engineer the server data and get all the login account data. If that is the case it may be possible to sort it out. In fact I personally would be happy to pay a one time fee towards the recovery of my characters. It would obviously have a cost associated with getting this stuff and if they said if you pay another $10-$25 we can have your account up and running in 72 hours...........I would be very happy.

You used to be able to buy a character rename token or a server move, please understand this is not new information or an update it is me being a fan myself and looking at how the data could possibly be recovered.

I agree with Ironwolf on this! I would be more than willing to pay to recover my account data (with all my account purchases). However, I believe that this information is the responsibility of NCSoft and therefore, should be included in the sale. Now linking that account information (which NCSoft had available months AFTER CoX was shut down) to specific characters, that may take a while, if ever.

This is what I believe. You are not going to change my opinion with your opinion! Until the deal closes, no one will know for sure what there is and what there isn't. If you can't accept my opinion and let me have it, that is your problem!

as a guy who's done some sales, advertising is extremely important. Word of mouth, even if you do an amazing job with your product, is only going to get you a maximum of about 10% saturation in your target market. Meaning 90% of your target market won't have even heard of you, much less be willing to buy.

Unless you do something jaw-droppingly bad. In which case, everyone has heard of it. Bad news is faster than light.

I have an illusion/Time controller named Madame Mardi Gras who made it to 28. I didn't notice her being particularly squishy. I had to play smart and deliberate to avoid calling down too much heat, but she was fun to play and she was solo for 95% of her career (so far anyway).

What I mean is that a character who can solo an AV based on personal defenses can quite likely solo x6/+2 spawns, or higher.
But a character who can solo an AV based on either pet-tanking that AV, or on single-target damage debuffs (Kinetics, Dark Miasma), may not necessarily have the AoE or the "against all attacks" defenses to solo a big spawn. Granted, the Dark Miasma can, but the Kinetic would only have a -50% damage debuff from Fulcrum Shift.

As for the Illusionist, they're Controllers... all Controllers are, IMO, great. But it's a far stronger set against single targets (AVs) than against groups. If the group disperses a bit so that some are out of the area debuffed by the Spook or by Time's PBAoE -ToHit aura, they can start doing some damage, and Illusion doesn't have the AoE Immobilize to prevent that. So while it's great against single targets, I'd rather take a lot of other Controllers (Electric as an example) against large spawns even if the Electric doesn't have the tools to tank an AV.

Funniest ones I've seen by far were the ones asking TA defenders if they could heal (and I've seen at least a couple in Defiant and quite a few more in Freedom). I soooo hoped for devs to update that set with the fabled "Healing Arrow"  ;D

I liked my TA defender alot, although it's a really late blooming set....but always thought it would be a no-brainer to have included a healing "cupid's arrow" so to speak. But obviously, the set wasn't created for that.

Any dominator with any worth wouldnt care if there was a healer.. The mobs should be locked down... and Mezzed Mobs cant hurt you..

And a team with that many buffs and debuffs would be steam rolling through mobs..

Right, she's all that ever came to mind for me and I'm not really a fan of the character so it became harder and harder to rationalize the premise of the powers thematically in other ways. I saw plenty of plant creature characters and similar things but I never really liked doing non-human toons, I'm boring like that.

Though it's just occurring to me now that I could have mixed Nature Affinity with Earth Control and used that to flesh out the range of the toon's powers.

Any numbers on how good the saturation is via other means? An add on a site like Penny Arcade? Those interviews with gamer websites about upcoming expansions? NW was doing a lot of promotions where a gamer oriented website would be issued codes to give to the website subscribers that unlock titles, pets, and costume parts (technically they are still doing it but less frequently in favor of internal "giveaways" tied to buying things): How well do those sort of things do for bringing in new customers?

I believe the image includes all servers, including Test Server. How they would push I24 live, I don't know.  The push to may be one of the things they are negotiating. It is also possible that I-24 was pre-loaded on the live servers and just needs the patch to make it live.

This - the image would contain all the servers at least unless I am told otherwise. So pushing out Issue 24 and adding character data or just as a bare start, would not be out of the realm of possible.

I think these servers were all on only 2 physical machines. I know when one physical server went down about half of the virtual machines would be affected.

For the longest time, I couldn't come up with a CO single-blade character idea that I liked enough to keep, until I made a CoX Cimeroran soldier. Conversely, I never really had a robots MM in CoX that I was happy with...until it just occurred to me to adapt my CO gadgeteer. And now, I want the game back so that I can make him!

Are we there yet?? I'm going crazy trying to keep the waiting from driving me crazy!

 SO Ironwolf here is my question.. what is the breaking point? Does this new team have a minimum requirement to purchase CoX should Nc Soft decide to sell it? Do they believe they have the right people in place to reverse engineer the game should the source code not be located? Do they believe they can construct or acquire the right development tools? It seems to me that not having access to these things at the onset are major issues.
