Soling AV's is fun but it is an execution in patience; one of the things my scrapper builds where built around was the ability to solo AV's.

One of my best accomplishments and many deaths trying before I was ever successful was my fire/sd  taking down Infernal being fire damage he had a 50% resistance to my fire attacks and taking that big hit hurt even with aidself. Needless to say I think it was a 30 minute battle maybe an hour been many years ago just know it was long.

Marauder was a fun AV to solo now the coolest solo ever was Iggy on the scrapper forum completed an itf solo with a katana/wp and yes that included the final AV Iggy was awesome

I actually doubt I would do it, but always nice to have options. The level of survivability to consider soloing an AV makes regular content solo totally doable.

CoH proactive buffs/debuffs were generally so much more efficient that reactive healing but it was hard to convince some players of this, especially newer CoHers who came to us with certain expectations burned in from other MMOs.  And honestly it didn't bother me too much, if thats how they wanted to play so be it.  A few times I did try an experiment, hooked up with a PUG that highly desired (demanded) a healer, dusted off the emp, kept the team alive.  After a successful mission or two ask if I could switch characters to slowly wean them off of healing, start with a rad ("it has some healing and a rez too, along with buff/debuffs") then maybe a kin for some healing and very noticeable buffs, then maybe an ill/ff controller and see if anyone even notices the PUG steamrolling without any heals being fired off.

Convincing folks could be done but it worked so much better by showing than telling.

Usually as people did finally get exposed to a force field based team or any team with no healing that had really high mitigation and saw the steamrolling that they'd finally realize the power of buffs and debuffs, usually.  Only a few times did I encounter anyone who was utterly closed minded about the game.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

"I decrease the chance of wipes."
"I use <buff/debuff set>."
"I'm a <AT>."

"Yes."
Even if I was a bubbler, I always took any resulting invites. Some people learned the error of their ways, others got upset, which I both found amusing and also seemed like a fair trade.

Funnier ones is when they ask you if you can heal and you play a kin. When they die and say why didn't you heal them, and you explain how kins work, their response seems like they just got a seizure because they tell you that's not real healing

Hahaha.  I LOVE my Kin.  I also love that style of healing.  I could be at another area of the map and still fire off and heal multiple teammates working on another mob.  If one person was off alone, I could target them and fire off Transfusion and it would heal off their target.  Amazing.

I think in the future the best reply to that question is there's a pill for that

My grav/kin later took the Energy Epic pool, which gave Power Boost. With that set to auto-attack, and Tava throwing trans/trans/ful like they were going out of style, she was healing close to 900 points every couple of seconds. We'd go in, I'd say, "Who wants to be the anchor?" (usually a tank or scrapper), and everyone else would just stay close to my anchor while I was casting those three.

I miss Tava... *sighs*

You could also roll a Dark/Dark Defender :) That combo excels at soloing in my experience. I built mine for Defense & Damage and had no issues soloing :)

Why yes, that's sounds nice! I suspect if I could solo AV's, soloing regular content should be possible. Traps/Sonic? OK, I'll re-roll Mr. Blue Suede Shoes (decked out in sparkling gold lame and rebuild my Graceland SG. That was on a server that was pretty dead whenever I was logged (Triumph).

I'll look at mids and see what slotting looks like and what to build for. Thanks for the tip!

The storm summoning powerset was chaos incarnate.  All too often I felt the need to hold back on the set to keep the rest of the party sane, the knockback drove tankers trying to do their job crazy, scrappers having to chase after tornadoes, and even the ranged characters didn't appreciate the reduction in efficiency to their AoEs when groups of mobs were scattered to the winds (as it were).  But when things went bad the Storm set could shine like no other.  For example, when a team vastly overaggro'd three spawns worth of mobs where a single spawn was proving trouble enough, that's when I'd remove all the restraints from my storm and watch the lovely chaos get everyone through the crisis without a scratch.

That's why I'm looking forward to either playing or remaking my Water/Storm Corruptor. Because when you're soloing, you don't worry about the chaos--it's someone else's problem. :) The MM I made had to worry about controlling pets, so couldn't charge right into a group of mobs with Hurricane running and watch 'em fly. The Corruptor? Well...hehehehehehehehehehehe...

Quote from: Felderburg on July 17, 2014, 03:50:13 PMHow big are the files needed in this hypothetical compulsive downloading situation? I mean, I'm under the impression that there are many terabytes of data, and I can't imagine it being cheap or timely to download all the stuff needed to get the game up again. And how would you even do that? Just plug in your external hard drive, and hope no one official sees it while the game downloads?
We're talking the source code to the game and tools. Source code alone would be a couple MB. Assets are another matter.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

I came up with an idea for a hero while reading this thread... He / she is a sworn protector of another planet's prince, heir to the throne. Unfortunately, the prince has left for Earth, and disguised himself as another hero. So the protector, being bred for combat rather than subtlety, decides to just go around and ask every hero he / she sees if they're the prince: "ARE YOU HEEL ZOR??"

In broadcast, in all caps, all the time.

To identify the anchor. I made a macro combined with Transfusion/ferance on the target that said, "$target is a gold farmer" written in Korean. For some reason it always made me laugh when using those power.

I think using a little logic we can make the guess that if the game is of a disk image of the last time being played - it will have all the login character data. Now - the trouble becomes separating it from everything else. It "may" be possible to fire it up and start to reverse engineer the server data and get all the login account data. If that is the case it may be possible to sort it out. In fact I personally would be happy to pay a one time fee towards the recovery of my characters. It would obviously have a cost associated with getting this stuff and if they said if you pay another $10-$25 we can have your account up and running in 72 hours...........I would be very happy.

You used to be able to buy a character rename token or a server move, please understand this is not new information or an update it is me being a fan myself and looking at how the data could possibly be recovered.

1. I sell you the snapshot of the game at Issue 24 and the IP rights for say $1 million

I'd like some clarity in regards to the disk image. Was our character data part of I24, and how, given it never went live? For the test server we had to copy our characters over.

I am an ass, but don't we all love a good ass!

Dark/Rad is nice too. Strong, stacking disorient, and the -Def works wonders for Twilight Grasp.

It was always an amusing trend, the obsession for concentrated healing ignoring everything else. People for some reason remember healing. I got more praise for healing then anything else I'd ever do.

I could be playing Storm wrap whole mobs in snow, crush there -res and -def and the team would roll them. Clean any minor wounds with O2 boost and people would still just thank you for the heals.

Wait, if its an image of issue 24 wouldn't that mean only the characters from the beta server would be attached to it? If there are any attached of course because issue 24 never went live.

Funniest ones I've seen by far were the ones asking TA defenders if they could heal (and I've seen at least a couple in Defiant and quite a few more in Freedom). I soooo hoped for devs to update that set with the fabled "Healing Arrow"  ;D

The Paragon Market was handled by a third party, not NCSoft. It's not theirs to sell. Account Data (which would include what we bought) is very unlikely (per Iron Wolf).

I suspect that what they are negotiating is on an "as is" state, with favorable options to buy further data and assets discovered at a later date. More important; how to assign value to data that is less valuable the longer it takes to get recovered. Getting Character data back after a year is not same, value wise, as getting it back now. Also they likely want to include the IP for development of a sequel. Likely, NCSoft is negotiating how much say they will get in that sequel. Also, to be considered, is how much credit (if any) Cryptic should receive in a sequel. Also, schedules for transfer of assets, number of employee hours the new buyers can expect NCSoft to expend in further searches, etc all need to be delineated. These kinds of deals are complex. You don't want to screw this step up just because you are excited. This can be the difference between an ultimately successful project and a failed one. Also helps to protect both parties from future liabilities.

I think that the "as is" state deal is essentially done. But there is no point in that going forward until all these other issues are worked out. That's how I read what Iron Wolf has said about "one signature away" But I'm just guessing like everyone else

Someone take a controller with Mind Control over to the NCSoft offices.
