Aye, I usually played corruptors and defenders myself.  As I said, I'm not that picky on styles of play, just don't like people pidgin holing themselves to only healing on support toons.  If I was only going to do damage on a corr/defender most the time I'd just play a blaster if I wasn't buffing anyone, debuffing mobs or soft ccing things.  Most the time, anyhow, depends on the strategy of the powerset combination.

I played everything, what really bothered me was how much arm twisting was required to get some of the lagging ATs (and powersets) fixed.

Edit: there should be no "bad" choices.

Exactly why I don't like playing defenders. Everybody else has ideas about how it should be done. Demands for SB, Why don't you do this or do that? They don't want to play one but are happy to tell you how to do it.

Nobody expects blasters or scrappers to do anything but blast or scrap.

As I've said before, my healers are meant to be dedicated healers. I take any power that'll help a teammate, and I've been complimented and praised by teams, after missions, for my work. I don't recall EVER being chewed out or kicked from a team for not attacking. Also, I find that, by not attacking, I draw a LOT less aggro, so I'm better able to keep working on the reason my healer's there: to keep you on your feet and in the fight.

Oddly, from all of the times I played an emp, the only time I got kicked off a team was for attacking.  :P

Ironwolf, et al, for what it's worth:

While I would love to have characters back and stuff - if only for the Inf on them - I am FAR more concerned with the ability to leverage the game adjacent stuff that makes life easier/better/more fun.  By this I mean:

* Veteran Awards! I had almost all of the them, and especially the Sands of Mu and the Nemmy Staff and Blackwand helped my pre-level-10 characters fill out sparse attack chains. All the free respecs were great too. The Prestige dashes were nice. Assemble the Team.
* The Paragon Store! Especially the Boosts of all kinds. And the super long lasting Inspirations.
* The fact that if you had enough Inf, you could almost always find even rare stuff on the market to buy. I am very concerned that supply being so limited upon the relaunch, how will I be able to snag 5 Luck of the Gamblers off the market reliably? Or a full Decimation set? Karma? Kismet? A low level +Stealth IO?

To me, getting back my character is no concern, compared to getting back my play experience. I would be thrilled to roll a new level 1 character - if I new I still had access to my Vet Awards, the Paragon Store, and a fully stocked market! :)

That would rock!  I would love to have all my toons back, but, I wouldn't mind starting from scratch.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!  Infinity Server...

For me, it's that, plus having access to MMs and EATs due to veteran time, plus the power sets that I had bought. If I find that I have to re-buy my masterminds and the Staff, Beast, Water and other sets, I'll have to deal with it, of course, but I shall be quite cross about it.

I removed Speed Boost on my mind/kin controller after a tank constantly complained that I didn't slot it right, while I constantly speed boosted him through a mission.  I also felt dirty and disgusted because he power leveled me though a level in about 30 minutes to an hour...(back in I4 ish).  Least fun I've ever had in the game.

I stopped teaming with my controller as much until the Incarnate Trials at which point no one seemed to care that I had repel and not speed boost. Everyone was there to have fun and be awesome; and everyone knew how to play the game and they loved it.

Also, repel is one of the most fun powers I've used in the game and it fit concept perfectly.  I highly recommend it for any mind/kin that needs just a little more telekinesis but doesn't want to go the FF route.

Hello hows is everyone today?
Reading a few post and felt I should throw my 2 cents in. I would love to play my main had well over a 1000 hours with him. However with that said if I had to start over at lvl 1 I would take that chance if that meant I could play my favorite game.

That how I feel. Badge wise, sure I'll take that hit (good news for like dmg/heal/etc badges, the requirement to max those out are considerably lower than then they first started) All I care about is playing the game, making my base, and if they bring back old pvp, do that. The last part is more than likely not because off all the reverse engineering that may be required

Mouse-Man

For those who know these sorts of things... What, theoretically, would be included on a "disk image"?
I gather from the conversation that it wouldn't be source code, but is that just the client, the server software, or what? I understand that until it's in hand no one can say for sure.

Just curious as to what they are actually buying along with the IP.

Well, since we're still having these feel good talks about our time with the game, I have a few questions I'd like views and opinions on.

Did any of you ever try a Super Reflexes Tanker and what was it like?
Never thought to try it back then and now it's intriguing me as I reminisce. I always felt the set was pretty broken in execution but I made the effort to get a Claw/SR Scrapper to 50 to prove that I did it, especially to one of my friends that loved it and enjoyed bantering back and forth about it.

And...

Does anyone remember what scaling passive buff or debuff quality was added late in the game's life to Super Reflexes?
I am having the damnedest time trying to remember. Was it a To-Hit Debuff on the mobs? A +DEF buff on you?

I can only talk from a scrapper point of view I played two /sr toons katana and dm/sr one back in the perma elude days

They added two things over time to /sr before it was ever ported to tankers. You passives provided a stacking scaling resistance buff as you lost health; been so long I forgot the % it is buried in some post in the scrapper forum dating back way into the past. Next they added resistance debuff to /sr they have the highest debuff resistance in the game as long as you took all toggles and passives and it is the easiest set to softcap. (Before the HO fix yea yea it was 10 years after the fact /shield could match the debuff resistance with enough recharge)

Now the scrapper forum was begging for the taunt aura the tankers and brutes got darn you Cryptic  :'(

Someone copy and pasted IronWolf's most recent update here to the open 'City of Heroes' group on Facebook. I'm not sure if it was decided whether or not that would be most advisable thing to do moving forward here, with all the crazy reactions we've been getting on the social media front...

Just figured I'd bring it to everyone's attention.

Now i have to go back and see which was the most recent. Was it controversial? (Yes, i know, for some everything is controversial.)
Can't say there an actual decision or consensus, just a general sense of agreement among most posters to try to keep things low key for now, but it's not like everyone who reads these boards agreed to do the same.
So far so good. Onward and upward!

Well, technically a horse could be defined as a rocking chair, but I won't quibble, grin.

In answer to your question, the payoff for me isn't having a level 50 completed character. Once the character is done, I feel that I am also done with it. That's why I almost never pursue purples - you can't slot them until 50, and by that time, I'm finished with the character.

For me the journey is the character more and more coming into his own, as he gets more powers, more slots, completes IO sets, etc. But once they can't get much more power I want to start anew with a new mechanical idea. Sure, I could grind Hamidon, or grind Incarnate Trials, but compared to the 1-50 journey the post-50 journey is a slow crawl through broken glas - which would be worth it if the amount of power you'ld gain was cosmic, but I never felt the Incarnate powers were all that compelling to get. I did a few, and they were fun, but I didn't suddenly feel like I hit a whole new level of power. Kinda meh.

So that's why I shelve characters at 50 - because IMO they don't change much more, and it's a nice place to call closure and take a new journey. And the thing is, CoX is pretty much the only MMO in which I could level well over two dozen characters, and have each journey feel unique. CoX was massively successfully massively serial, IMO.

Fair enough.

For me, I felt the difference between a regular IO'd 50 and a 50 with properly-slotted named IO's & purples (along with a +3/+4 Incarnate level) was pretty significant. In the words of one of my friends I used to have Mid's min/max discussions with on a daily basis, "The most difficult parts of the game get stupid easy after your character becomes an Incarate." I couldn't do near the amount of things with my Warshade with normal IOs as I could a purple'd/"Incarnate-ified" version of him. So, to me, I felt there was definitely more power to be gained after hitting 50.

But, to each his own, I suppose.

I loved how the game was differently awesome to everyone.

I played for concept.  And on my main, he wasn't complete until he had all the lightning powers from the incarnate sets; Ion, Lightning Elemental Summon, and Barrier (animated with lightning + TK fit my concept perfectly).  I even I/O slotted out a few holds and the extra hold prox animated like electricity which made me just giddy.  He couldn't get enough extra powers.  While there were other characters who I got to level 20 or even mid 30 and I felt they had hit that concept mark, my main kept getting better after 50.

Or maybe I just loved playing and the super powered awesome Incarnated out character.  Because on my controller, I noticed the extra damage from Ion and the defense from barrier and even the pets (mind controller here :) )

If I could have one free 50 with everything on it, he would be the guy.  And I have the sentinel files to "prove" it!

If we get the game back and we start with a clean slate of no character information.. I would hope that more people wouldn't be in a huge rush to get to 50 right away and we as a community could enjoy the game more from 1 to 50... revisiting those arcs that maybe we never did or ones we have fond memories of doing a few years ago (I love Frostfire and Atta).

When the game comes back, if I don't have a toon in your level range to help you out with Frosty or Atta, by golly, I'll roll one and pl it right quick (if I can at that point, lol) and join you.
