1. Yes! DCUO allows picking up things and chucking them, and speeding up the sides of buildings. Fun!

2. Regarding the "T for Teen" thing - I was going to say "STO does it" but they're not rated by the ESRB anymore. But it's family friendly. It doesn't have to be "drunk", it can just be something implied, or fun - in STO the one drink makes your character do a silly dance (or something, as I recall).

3. This is a good idea. If CoH2 is not set in Paragon City, I would say make it another city (west coast?) or make it more of a global thing. That way, you can set it in the same time period as CoH, without it being subject to a "better graphics, but it's the same game" syndrome. PLUS, you can avoid being forced to explain what happened to all the CoH characters, if the game were to be set in a "3 years later" Paragon City. This also allows for ANY environment you can think of.

4. If you look at the Lore AMA, they were doing something similar: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Lore_AMA/Sorted#347 They were going to have villains be able to call up old contacts whose arcs you'd run, and those people would assist you. It'd be super cool to do with your own characters!

5. ...That seems like maybe a good idea, but probably awkward. If you want to play as a character, log on to that character.

Also, I made a thread to address the YouTube scams: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,10062.0.html

Super Strength and Super Speed were the two things I felt DCUO did best out of everything they tried to do.  I'd love to see super strength be something other than a brawly attack list...let it be something that lets you huck cars, lightposts, the random bus that people waited on forever in CoH. :D  Let it impact just how hard you hit, rather than how you hit hard.  And super speed needs to be able to to run up buildings, or across water....maybe adding more mobility-based attacks to the different movement modes would be good, too.  Flight with dive-bombing ability!  Super jump to with a kick to the guy in front of you!  *BAMF*-mugging!  But also...little nifty things to do in game that don't have to involve punchifying the enemy would be nice.  If the game is going to be set post-Battalion, include some memorials to the heroes who fell in that battle.  Maybe a monorail track got damaged in a fight between supers, and you have to save the train somehow.  Non-combat but actiony missions would really help make it pop, y'know?

One of my favorite story arcs- if not my absolute favorite- was this from the i24 beta. It was so awesome to be able to see all those old contacts. Especially as a badger- to get that extra "oomph!" out of having gone to all the trouble to collect those things.

Chris Chung while he runs his own studio is a big fan - then there was the whole Convention video where one of the Wildstar guys I think it was said - City of Heroes should never have shut down and all the other Devs agreed - including Jack Emmert. The City is very much appreciated in the gaming world.

I realize this is from 22 pages back, but I'm just now catching up on/skimming through today's activity.

Here's a link to the thread discussing the video from PAXEast 2013. The CoH question comes up around the 32:50 mark, but the whole video has lots of good insight in it and is worth a watch.

If you have trouble catching some of the CoH discussion, my transcription is here.

Thank you, after reading that I tried to find it but failed.
Please don't send blind requests in games to me, I learned to ignore them in CoX, no offense meant. (this is only here until I can figure out how to put it in my actual profile on here.)

Oh, absolutely!  None of this can happen without these good people doing what they intend, and I fully support them.  I'll be buying whatever they're selling. :D

I'd also point out the game mentioned "WoW" is also rated T for teen and includes tobacco along with Wildstar also being rated t for teen having beer, getting stoned and drunk etc. I don't think they consider it bad enough to go beyond T for teen simply because both games do it in a funny cartoony way.

Whoa what did I miss?  I haven't checked in since a day and a half ago and Iron Wolfs posts seem to suggest there is  shit-storm somewhere, what's going on?

Facebook's CoH groups effectively turned into a rumormill gone wild. We had wild tales of the city being turned back on within days, that it was a pile of various people accused of being the ones managing it (yours truly among the pile of those rumored), we had various other developers try and muscle in on the action, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!

Just got up (uk based) and eagerly dived in here to see any developments.
Going on the basis of life cycle it was inevitable we would hit a trough after so many peaks lately.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and a part of me wonders if it would have been better for Ironwolf to have said nothing until he just typed "it's ours again!!!!!!".
Having said that since finding this thread a few days ago I haven't been so energised in anticipation in years, like being a kid at Xmas again. It was always going to be a massive task managing expectation when you are severley limited in what you can say and sadly it appears to be the case.
I fully appreciate everything Ironwolf and the new dev team are doing, they have given us hope again where there was none for such a long time.
So my thoughts going forward are :-
1. Minimal if any updates, just GET THE GAME BACK!!!!!
2. Once it is back then go nuts, street parties, etc.
3. CoH client running i23/i24.....nothing else....no changes....nada....nothing.
4. Huge discussion/questionnaire about CoH2 but the core stays the same,no dodge,no twitch,no fops style, maybe walls come down and huge huge sandbox but basic controls stay period.
5. Onward and upward heading into CoH3 around 2020 ;)

The T-rating is actually quite flexible - you can get away with quite a lot before you get an M-rating.

You know, I hope they can get the user data for one reason. I don't need to get all my characters back, I'm fine playing them all from level 1 to 50 all over again. In fact, it seems like an exciting prospect. I just want all my veteran's rewards back. I don't really want to wait years to accumulate all the rewards I had previously. Of course, even if I have to start from the very beginning, I'm there. With bells on.

As far as CoH2 goes, I want the basic mechanics to stay the same. That's not to say I wouldn't welcome SOME updating of powersets, but the rule of thumb should be "Does it still PLAY like CoH?". That being said, maybe it would be kind of cool to see some of later mechanics integrated into some of the earlier powersets to set them apart from each other a little. Let's face it, the mace and axe sets were almost exactly the same. The same could be said of some of the blast sets as well. I wouldn't mind some changes that gave them some flavor.

keep the powers as they were, please

I think you have a good point, especially with Mace and Axe, hell you can almost add Broadsword to that list.  In the game files, IIRC that is, they used to be part of the same Medieval Weapons set.  Eventually they got split into seperate power sets entirely.

Yeah, I don't think that's an entirely logical point of view.  How are you gonna attract new players to the game to keep CoH2 afloat if you can't innovate and change things?!  Personally, I feel as though some of the earliest power sets were a bit boring... especially the melee ones.  That is doubly true when your melee character has a passive defensive set where you just set it and forget.  Some of the later sets had unique flavor to them that made you actually pay attention a little to what buttons you pushed: Staff, Dual Blades, Titan Weapons, etc.

Also, they did a great job with Bio Armor in making it have a form that was more offensive and a form that was more defensive.  It was almost like going from Brute, to Tank to Scrapper all in one secondary.

I'm gonna go ahead and pull this out again to highlight it.  This really should be the operative question going forward with the sequel.  Is the essence the same?  Is the game familiar, but not stagnant?  After all, we'll need a lot more people to like it than just us.  And not even half of the target audience probably will have played the original, but that isn't to say that we shouldn't all feel right at home.  Not that that means we need to have it exactly the same as it was to feel like we belong.  At least I won't.

There's already two (or is it three?) projects in the works that are exactly that. If that's what the new devs wanted, they could have made offers for those properties instead, neh?
Valiance, H&V, CoT, and there's Joshex's own side project.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

I was bemused to hear somebody in zone on CO broadcasting about there being a thread about the buyout on reddit  ( http://www.reddit.com/r/Cityofheroes/comments/29wow9/update_on_the_the_deal_with_ncsoft/ ). Information is flowing out pretty much all over the place now...

I read the statement "STOP FEEDING THE FB MONKEYS!!!" as an accusation that I was starting some kind of rumor.... >.<
The monkeys usually have no common sense or sanity check. At least one of them will take any given piece of information as gospel, no matter how implausible it sounds.

You know, like the fact that spreading false rumors on Facebook will be punished with a permaban once the game comes online.
