If for whatever ungodly reason, NONE of my character names were available, I already have one in mind. I would ask that folks respect this one.

I hereby reserve the name:

One-Woman Film Crew

This will be my Mercs Mastermind's new name. You have been warned.

I'm fairly certain there were still some things with the Blaster changes and Bio Armor... but I could be misremembering.

I24 was a smooth running awesome beast the last few weeks that I played it.

It would be so cool...
Some of the powerset numbers were still off and were supposed to adjusted in the next patch as well as a couple of the new costume sets getting improved art. Basically it was very nearly ready to go live without being completely ready.

Also it's very common that in the live environment previously unknown issues come up that require patching due to the much larger number of players and the differences between the beta server and the live server environment. Generally a new issue has bugs that require fixing far more often than not. Actually i can't recall a single issue where there weren't a few patches required in the first several weeks to fix unexpected issues. Which cannot happen when there are no longer any coders to fix things.
So far so good. Onward and upward!

CoH hybrid model was according to the devs more profitable than when it was a Pure Sub model..

Because of people like me... Happily...

Quote from: TheDevilYouKnow on July 07, 2014, 12:00:57 AMMaking this change will require changes to the code and the database structure. Pretty unlikely if all they have is essentially a compiled copy of the game.
Part of my proposal was based on them having to recode sections of the account handling structures anyway, as if stuff is missing that would be my top pick (considering account server functions seemed separate from the main game). And at least when working with the underlying code of accounting software, I generally think its easiest to resize a database field when it is empty. :)

And I pray they'd be getting some actual source code rather then a compiled copy of the game, or I fear we aren't going to see anything for a really long time after a theoretical purchase. Any small bug introduced in the runup to I24 could be potentially game breaking if there is no ability to fix it...

In any case, I'll be happy with whatever happens as it will be better then what we have now. Just tossing thoughts around while we wait for a hopefully grand announcement.

I played I24 as soon as it was made available on Beta all the way to shutdown.  I had absolutely no errors, hic-ups, or game-breaking bugs of any kind, from Character Creation (there were some costume pieces that needed work) to solo & team play.  I would be perfectly happy with I24 in Maintenance Mode and would sub from now to dooms-day.

My take on naming is I eventually went to my own nomenclature instead of names (mainly because it was getting harder & harder to come up with a reasonable Toon name).  The nomenclature thing was a huge help, especially if I hadn't played that toon in a while.  At a glance, I could tell what the toon's archetype, class, origin, powers & what issue he was created in.

Again, my heart felt thanks goes out to Ironwolf and the team for their efforts to try and get our City back.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!  Infinity Server...

There was some kind of wonky animation issue with the quick snipe for Assault Rifle, I can vaguely remember that much. Couldn't tell you specifics anymore though. And honestly, we had lived with worse bugs than that for long stretches of time, IMO. It wouldn't put me off from playing the set again, I know that much.  :)

I would love to play COH again - I don't need the 8 years of accumulated stuff I had- I want the game. I don't need AE or even Incarnate stuff . I subbed the entire time from August of 2004 till shutdown Very soon I will be 61 years old. I have been a comic book fan since the 1950's and I just want of play the most perfect rendition of my lifetime interest. I will happily pay to play again possibly even have a second sub again.

I don't agree, I would prefer a sub model. IMHO the "free" model really irks me. Its basically catering to the players who generally intended to spend as little as possible, chasing the subscriber who won't pay anyways. I'd rather focus on the players who are and do pay. Just my $.02

During the CoH break I am playing EVE Online one of those few sub games left. Voting with my wallet.

And you're welcome to, you can disagree all you want, but it doesn't change the facts of the industry. They're going to need/want a hybrid model. *I* don't mind paying a sub for CoH, most if not all of us here on the forums probably don't mind, but new players won't necessarily go for it, that's just a fact. Though saying you played EVE doesn't help your argument much :P

I can't help but think that, if this goes through and the timing is possible, announce that the game would be back on the Friday before Labor Day (or the exact date...Was it the first?) and launch the game on the First of December.

The wait may drive people crazy, but the timing of it all would be pretty awesome (to me).

Good info the last days. Thanks to the team an Ironwolf. Closing in on the well earned summer semester. Would be a fantastic start  if the deal s made. I wonder, if the team is posting here without us knowing their identity :)

Would kickstarter be a good option to fund the startup of the game once it is aquired?
Waiting to lend my help anyway I can.

Yes, they are. I said they are us. They heard about what I was finding out in this very thread and asked about it privately explaining what they wanted to do. I sort of volunteered to run interference and to be the unofficial spokesperson to take the pressure off them and to allow them to operate freely. Then we found a contact at NCSoft and off to the races we went. There are very valid reasons why I am withholding the last piece of the puzzle which I will explain in completeness once the game is secured - or all the talks fall apart.

I am not holding back due to some power trip or to be "in the know" I am trying to keep this out of the press - out of the public influence and they agreed until it is settled one way or the other. I really try not to have the attitude of being one of the cool kids in the know and give you the unvarnished truth - where I can. I really saw people running with all kinds of wild ideas and want to clarify the state of the game.

They do post here and they read most everything and here is what one said about the Facebook crowd:

At this point, the rumormill seems unstoppable. Now people are pointing to your June 20th update as proof that NCSoft is relaunching CoH in August.

and so you understand why I thought these were the right people in spite of other groups contacting me:

You know I'm not upset, more realizing how desperate people are. Lots of pressure not to mess up.

They get us - they are us.

Correct. That's also been correct for DDO, for LotRO, for ToR, for STO, for CO, and it's true for World of Tanks, Mechwarrior Online, Warthunder (any game that uses a "premium time" system to boost XP or monies earned over those who don't have it active).

That's why everyone uses hybrid models.

For the record, this is on entirely different scale than I was using when discussing "readiness."  No, absolutely nothing on i24 Beta made the game break, but it also wasn't quite to the point where I would say, "yeah, it was good enough to play FOREVER with absolutely no changes EVER," either.  I think the slight imbalances in Blaster powers alone would eventually annoy folks who played Blasters, I never really did, but I am sure the numbers still needed tweaking.

Tony V has said specifically it's not Missing Worlds Media/City of Titans -- of course, since the buyer group includes Titan forum fans who are developers, I'd be surprised if none of them had put any time into various Plan Z efforts.

I will say this if people guess wrongly or correctly I will neither confirm nor deny until I am given leave to do so. It is human to speculate - I encourage all your excitement. I gave my word - that for me means until the stars fall from the sky or until I am released from it.

Good job, Ironwolf!  My thanks to you and to the negotiators!  I have a inner wish that this hits "go" by the anniversary date when I began playing in a few weeks (nope, not saying when).  :)  What a great day that would be.  What a great day ANY day will be when we hear the game is back!

Losing all our account data is beyond sobering, it's my worst fear realized if the game should return. I bought near everything. Even if they could import  character data, I couldn't use them with everything purchased locked out.
I had 10 unused char transfers :( $40+ right there! EVIL!!!!
