New efforts!

Oddly enough I find it a very promising development. Apparently there was a large demand for such...it means they're learning to listen.

Me Too! It means that they are not completely set against reviving old products when there is a demand. Maybe they don't want to mess with it, but they would be willing to sell.

Mostly, I'm happy for Lineage players who wanted to play it. I think that people who joined later and heard all the vet's talking about how hard it use to be and how they couldn't handle REAL Lineage will get the chance to find out for themselves.

I never played and have no desire to do so, but grats to those who worked to make this happen.

Return of CoH - Oh My God! It looks like it can happen!

Let me guess. The CoH servers initially ran on Windows Server 2003 and were probably upgraded to Windows Server 2008 later on. They probably used Microsoft SQL Server to store all the character and login data.

Willing to bet there will be some compatibility issues if they attempt to run the server under Windows Server 2012 and Microsoft SQL Server 2014.

That is what I've heard.

Having tried to run a WS03 daemon on WS12, I can only imagine the nightmare there.

Imagine ultra dry days that are moderately warm/hot in which your flooding the lawn?  Total time it takes is about 5-6 hours.  Not having CoX to play after kind of sucks.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Mistress Urd

It would certainly be nice playing one of best casual teaming but never required games again.

EsTrella

I think it is important that we keep the small things that make make a big difference, like the cities' intro music, character/power customizer....

So true...To me that was the biggest thing CoH had going for it was the teaming aspect.

Ive tried alot of other games and none have the the ease or wanting to team like CoH did.

Thunder Glove

It's both, really - teaming was easy and fun, but soloing was perfectly viable as well.  Some days I just wanted to log in to a Brute and smash stuff in newspaper and Mayhem missions for an hour or two, not get involved with plots or even with other people.

That's not the only reason, of course, but it was one of them.

I love popping on, street sweeping, rescuing threatened citizens, then dropping off.  That's probably why I tended to peter out characters in the 30's, 40's, there weren't any really good citizen rescue opportunities -- at upper mid levels there were Thorns Victims in Founders and some boring Crey shakedown victims or Prison Guards to rescue in Bricks and that's about it.

You know, I don't know if you've covered the topic yet, but City Of Titans is REALLY close to City Of Heroes, and I'm pretty sure they use the same software.

I'm pretty sure most people here know about CoT. :P
I am an ass, but don't we all love a good ass!

Yeah, most of us here are rather familiar with City of Titans. There's an entire section of these forums devoted to it. (Look for the section titled Plan Z: City of Titans.)
Also, there's no chance in hades they're using the same software (besides Windows); City of Heroes was created using a custom built engine and City of Titans is using Unreal Engine 4. UE4 did not exist when City of Heroes was created.
So far so good. Onward and upward!

I'm not very sure where you got that from. The only "close" to it is in spirit and name. Not only is it using an entire new engine and by neccesity will be different as it's own entity, there isn't even a build we can play OR see of it yet (all I've seen is some super basic stuff done in UE ? *I think* with barely any real detail to make a fair comparison and the tech demo of UE 4 that wasn't made by them. Last I heard they were JUST getting out of pre-production and into production.) So as excited as I am for what might become of CoT, it's in no way using the same software and there's nothing of it yet to give anyone an idea that it's "really close" to anything really. Too early to call that one, I think.
Please don't send blind requests in games to me, I learned to ignore them in CoX, no offense meant. (this is only here until I can figure out how to put it in my actual profile on here.)

Yeah, I have HOPES that City of Titans will deliver something like City of Heroes (for one thing I have money riding on it  :) ) But last I heard COT hasn't even decided how they're going to handle the MMO process -- since Unreal Engine IV isn't designed as an MMO engine and needs an MMO package of some kind to do anything in MMO-land.

I have somewhat higher hopes for Heroes & Villains since they're using the Hero Engine which includes an MMO application "out of the box" that you just have to customize ("just" I say, as if that isn't an INCREDIBLE amount of work for a volunteer project to do)

And I have even HIGHER hopes about Valiance Online, as they have been posting updates on actual physical (and playable) progress for nearly a year now, and have something to show for it thus far.

Really exciting stuff ahead for all thee games!

And might I add I don't even think they've done an official kickstarter yet, so to have working builds we can play already without needing funding full force is impressive to me.

You're thinking of Icon, I think, which is not connected to CoT at all.

Ah, yes.  That makes much more sense.
