I seriously don't mind if we have to start over. We're already without characters now. If we have the game back, I'm willing to give all my characters a second go. : )

Me too, I'm so glad you put it so well.

Frankly, I hope SCORE continues no matter what the outcome of these negotiations.  We lost our city once, we could lose it again.  I, for one, will never feel truly comfortable again until I have a means to play offline or via my own private server.

That said, if it does come back, I'll have my wallet out so fast to sign up I'll probably dislocate my shoulder.
Please don't send blind requests in games to me, I learned to ignore them in CoX, no offense meant. (this is only here until I can figure out how to put it in my actual profile on here.)

I'm in the same boat as you, in fact it'd just make it easier for me to do what I'd be wanting to do if the game was announced coming back in that way.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Agreed on this. I fully plan to support whoever may reopen the game as long as they continue to do so with integrity and don't compromise the heart and soul of the game, but at this point, I'd love a private server for one simple reason. As I've stated in the past, we have a ton of expert-level computer geniuses among us, and if we had a private server up and running (especially if a sequel is made and classic COH goes on maintenance mode), then we would have a more secure line to the game without risk of it being shut down without notice, and it would also allow us to continue development by the community. If we can crack the system enough to build a private server, then between the artists and coders among us we could very easily implement new power sets/mission arcs/zones/etc. etc. and do it as we see fit. We wouldn't have to wait for an issue release, just update the game to include a new power set or two, and nobody would complain of a "lacking issue" as some did in the past, because we'd just be happy to get fun new toys. *Shrug* My two cents there.

I'm actually torn on the issue. I did have a lot of 50's and put 8 years of effort into the game, so I'd be sad to see it all go (I'm thinking especially of some of the veteran rewards costume pieces that were CRUCIAL to one of my main characters costumes), though hopefully we'd have some way to prove veteran status so we could at least unlock the goodies we had. On the other hand, a fresh start would solve one massive issue that I've been irritated with for a long time: Freeing up names. Let's face it, there were a LOT of good names that were taken up and not cleared out that probably hadn't been logged into in YEARS and whose players had no intention of ever logging in again. If we really do have to start over again the first thing I'll be doing is logging into my server of choice and snapping up the names that I want, with full intention of using them. As a matter of fact, the aforementioned main character that I loved had a suitable name, but there was one that I would have given my right arm to have, which was not available. It's a double-edged sword. We can get our old toons back and have to deal with the ever-shrinking database of available names, or have a clean slate to start over without all the bells and whistles that we earned over the years. I'll be happy either way, but there really is not perfectly ideal scenario, unless the new game runners take a look at the records and decide to run that name-freeing script again on anything that hadn't logged in for at least 3 years. Throw us that bone on our restored characters and I'll be in heaven.

ShadowMokadara

It's more that we already lost them anyway. It's unclear if the data is still floating around there, but some people claim they'd rather not have the city back at all if they can't have their characters back. I had plenty of 50s, I spent a lot of money on the game, and I had a lot of amazing enhancement sets. But I'll admit, if having the game back meant starting over, I'd start over. I'd just be careful with my wallet.

I would remake many of my characters with different power combos I didn't think of before.  Like my water corrupter would be waterblast/sonic and my shield scrapper would be street fighting/ shield.  Oh how I miss this game...

Yeah. I planned on remaking my Dual Pistols/Energy blaster into a Dual Pistols/Martial Combat blaster before the game shut down.

As most of my more silly (but fun!) alts began, a name popped into my head at work, today: Bomber Anne. (As in, "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb - Bomb, Bomber Anne!" It's really more an audible gag than a visual or text one...)

Can we have our game back, now, please?  ;D
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

I had a lot of concept characters on hold in anticipation of the new power sets that were going to be released. We weren't supposed to talk about them because they were leaked on outside sources via pigg-diving, which was a big no-no, but I was really looking forward to making a Wind Control/Storm Summoning controller, Savage Melee/Super Reflexes scrapper, Psionic Melee/Willpower stalker, Rad/Rad tank, plus a ton of other fun stuff that I hadn't even had the chance to try out yet. I just BARELY got to use water blast, and never got around to making a toon with Bio Armor or Nature Affinity. First thing I do when I get this game back is re-roll my mains so I have their names available (if needed), and second is to start new alts so I can try all those fun combos and power sets that I never did when I had the time before.

That wouldn't be a big deal for me either, don't get me wrong, I'd rather have all my lvl 50 chars back but starting from them scratch wouldn't be a big deal for me. Having said that, the loss of extra character slots I purchased on Defiant and later on on Freedom, vet rewards that allowed me using the invention system on F2P etc... now that would be really annoying for me and I suspect it would also be really annoying for many other people.

That is my biggest personal concern really. I put a lot of money into that game after it went free to play (several hundred dollars), and I had a lot of costume packs and goodies. My primary concern is for things that were not readily available from the paragon market. We had the Halloween pack that was only available for a month out of the year containing several costume pieces that I used heavily (Namely the liquid-filled brain helment, fish man gloves and vampire cape collar), as well as the special anniversary reward for those who maintained a subscription during a particular period which rewarded you with an Arachnos and Stateman chest emblem plus the Zeus and Tartarus helms, which was not acquirable in any other way. If the new team makes these particular goodies available, even if it's only for a short period right after re-launch for a special celebration, then I have no concerns otherwise, but without the brain helmet I can't make two of my favorite characters, the vampire cape is an essential piece of another favorite, and without the Zeus helm I simply cannot create my absolute favorite character anymore.

This a concern I have as well. I had everything costume. Yes every single thing, including prestige slide for my ice characters. I can live with starting over as much of the fun was in playing the characters, but to lose all those hard won costume pieces, that would HURT.

I had a scrapper called Monster Squad based on the movie who had each of the monster forms. He's doomed without the halloween pack. I had a few Romans, I had a ghostly DP/Mental called Ye Olde Highwayman with a Tricorner hat, Madame Mardi Grais with firework aura.

This doesn't even mention the Incarnate pieces that I had.

I would hate to lose those.

I don't want to suggest this, but I hope there is some way, even if it costs more monies to get these pieces back.

Anyone have any speculation on what aspects of the game may be likely to be changed if the game is acquired by another company? For example would they remove some of the one time only event badges, revamp the Paragon rewards system or replace it with something else, raise the level cap and modify the Incarnate system, that's just some stuff off the top of my head. Anyone else have any guesses?

None.. zero... no speculation whatsoever.. we dont even know if NC Soft will actually sell the game yet..

I've had the same thought. And, thinking about it again just now, I imagined so many people piling onto the newly-opened servers - to claim names, or just to get back into the game - that the servers react like the free-standing bank of pay phones toward the end of "Airplane!" when all those reporters hit it simultaneously.

Well whether or not NC Soft is willing to sell the game isn't relevant because I was asking a "What if" question.

If it is bought what aspects do people think would likely be changed by a potential buyer? It's been referred to in general (possibly directly) in this thread at least a few times. I'm just curious to hear other's opinions or guesses. Something to do while we pass the likely long waits in between getting word about what's going on.

Agree

I would rather have the game back and start over, than not have the game at all!

If given that choice I'm of the same mind. While I put as much effort as any player building up my characters over the eight years I played the longer the game has been gone the more and more appealing having a fresh start becomes in comparison to getting all my old characters back.
