I would like to think ...

We know Jim Butcher, the author of the Harry Dresden series of occult noir books, played City of Heroes.  As the matter of fact we know he played a character named Harry Dresden, and was successful in reversing a generic hero when someone called it out as a copyright violation.  It's his creation after all.

Well I just finished reading his last Dresden novel Cold Days and in it he revealed the name of the big bad, the one behind all the chaos that had been going on in the novels.

Spoiler for Hidden:
Nemesis.

I would like to think that it was a shout out to us.

Dude, seriously, PANCAKING SPOILER ALERT.

One thing is to constantly pee on everyone's parade about NCSoft, we get it and we got used to it but this is... meh, pancake the books, not reading them now.

Ironwolf

You get that upset over the name of the bad guy?

Serious?

dwturducken

I'm only up to Summer Knight, so I, for one, am not horribly worried about it. :)
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

Honestly?  You aren't going to read an entire series because I mention that in the 14th novel of the series that one of the names of the power behind a lot of the mischief in the series happens to be the same name as a villain from our beloved game?  Overreact much?

As for my "peeing on your parade", I call it educating a butch of people how companies and stock prices work.  How poor company performance will affect it's stock price while the reverse isn't true.  Showing the reality of how little our game meant to their bottom line as well as how little NA and Europe sales meant to them pre-GW2.  If you realize that our little outburst wouldn't matter a hill of beans to them, or to the general MMO player base then you all wouldn't be so disappointed when the end didn't come to NCSOFT.  Heck they didn't even get a stubbed toe out of Paragon's and CoH's closing.

So what is better, letting your kid believe he'll get a bicycle on his birthday or explain months in advance that they won't because you can't afford it?

Umm, yeah tiny overreact there... I don't even recall the significance of that name and I read the book the week it came out.

Out of curiosity ... I hadn't heard Butcher played, what was Harry Dresden's build?  Fire scrapper, I suppose?

You're suppose to lie, and get their hopes up! It's all about hope hope hope! Damn the truth. Who needs the truth? The truth hurts too much. It should be banned! :p

Nah really, I personally learned a lot from your postings regarding the situation and how it works and the true actual unadulterated by hate affects. It helps keep things into perspective. IMO.

Uh, hmm, that was supposed to be a joke hence the use of the proper "pancake" word, I mean, really "pancake" and not any other ugly word which got substituted by "pancake" if you know what I mean, I just wanted this thread not to go unnoticed as the Frederik Pohl one, ah well, nevermind, guess I should have followed my first instinct and pun with poetry, I just couldn't think of anything to rhyme with Nantucket...

And about peeing in our parade... yeah dude, every now and then lie to us, see, we'll know you're not telling the truth but what the hell, we (at least I) NEED you telling every now and then that NCSoft will go bankrupt next week or something or their baseball team are now a ballet or, you know, something...

Harry was as I recall a Fire/Ice blaster I think. I teamed with him on my Mab Queen of Winter (Storm/Ice) and we had a lot of fun kicking Nazi butts.

CrimsonCapacitor

I'm pretty sure Harry Dresden was a Fire/FF troller.  I'm pretty sure he said that somewhere when COH was being sunset.
Beware the mighty faceplant!

NCSOFT is going bankrupt next week and have been forced by the invasion forces of Poland to run COX forever and ever even after the world explodes into molten shards of rock and forced to pay out of their own pocket to cover the exspense if COX run into red.

HELL YEAH!!!

Reading that felt better than expected  ;D

FatherXmas

I tried to float the rumor back then that the "Great Leader" of North Korea played and would be angry if NCSOFT didn't revive the game.

Unfortunately, NC$oft (and the rest of the world) knew that DPRK's missile technology doesn't work
worth a crap, so even if "Great Leader" did get all pissy, there's no real teeth in his barking...  :P

They were (probably) in far more danger from the missile in Warburg than those in North Korea.    ;D

I heard NCSoft went out of business soon after they shutdown City of Heroes because of all the backlash, and another company bought all of the assets including the name "NCSoft" and is now secretly running the company as if nothing happened just to keep investors calm.  Unfortunately, in all the confusion they lost the keys to the server rack that held the CoH servers and can't turn them back on.

There are however rumors of a disheveled colo operator living under the raised flooring of the Austin facility, sometimes mumbling to himself about his "precious."

IDK. The Dresdenverse Nemesis only has the name in common with CoH Nemesis.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

Kriiden

I had heard he played city of heroes, but I guess he wasn't on Virtue, or else kept himself hidden. Huge Dresden Files fan. Literally my favorite series of books. It opened up the urban fantasy genre to me.
