ok everyone if you think blizzard should take over coh comment to my post on their facebook page here... https://www.facebook.com/Blizzard

After the massive failure of a game being Diablo 3 (and I don't mean in sales, cause we all know D3 sold so many games off of D2 expectations), I hope Blizzard doesn't even think of going near CoX.

2012 was the most disappointing year I've ever had in gaming and I've yet to recover.

Arachnion

No, thank you.

They did not exactly "hit it off" very well with Starcraft 2, either, IMO.

Especially when compared to the first Starcraft.

I own the SC2 base game (wings of liberty), watched the HotS cutscenes on Youtube.

Ugh... what in the world were you thinking, Blizzard!?

I saw the topic title and, just for just a moment, I thought "They are?  Did Google arrange something between Blizzard and NCSoft?"

Blizzard taking over CoH would probably not be ideal.   At this point, though, I don't know whether it'd be better or worse than not having CoH at all.  It depends on whether Blizzard went "Let's not make any drastic changes, so we win back the old CoH players" or "let's 'balance' the game and make it play like WoW!  PvP everywhere!"  The latter case would be a disaster.

Even in the former case, they still would be a step down from the communicative Paragon Studios, but it'd be a big step up from NCSoft's "We want to make everyone happy!  First, we kill your favorite game.  Are you happy now?  No?  We have a baseball team!   Now are you happy?  No?  Well, we have a new office building!  You're still not happy?  You people are impossible to please."

well to be honest, there haven't been no clear demands made that would benefit them in their current plan. Just demands that would benefit one side at the expense of the other. With demands of that sort, then trying to find middle ground is next to impossible.

I'll say a few things about blizzard.  They are at times, to conservative, when it comes to game development, in that they don't often like to innovate much.  In fact people often accuse them of having copied off of the Warhammer universe with starcraft AND warcraft.  So in the big picture, they are a "play it safe" group.  This could mean a few things, two of which someone already mentioned.

They could try to WoWize it, which would cause it to fail badly, though I'd say they'd have to be foolish to do so.  They did do one thing right about Diablo 3, inspite other problems, in that every class was a damage class, in contrast to WoW, which was smart, but even so, Diablo 2 was more that way already.

If they tried to nerf the buffs/debuffs which they could in trying to WoWize it, yes it'd fail.  Lets look at the fact they like to be conservative in development though; they may notice alot of players LIKED how CoX busted the holy trinity and notice that right away with all the buffs/debuffs.  They'd notice the balance direction the old devs went, if they did that, they'd do very well, even if they weren't trying to be particularly innovative.  Remember that blizzard as a whole has multiple different dev teams, so I couldn't say what we'd get.  The one thing I wouldn't necessarily like though is the fanbase they have trying it out as much; I don't like most blizzard fanboys due to, well, the attitude alot of them have.  There are nice ones yeah but those blizzard players are not fanboys.

But ultimately, blizzards biggest enemy is it's own tendency to not innovate, and often copy off of others in terms of things like gameplay, or just stick to what they know works.  It's not necessarily bad, RTS's and even diablo tends to do well for it imo, but MMO's sorely lack there.  They could easily end up messing up with CoX for it, cause it's an MMO and they could easily overlook it's innovative sides in favor of the typical raid/grind.  And this is one case where I'd say, Incarnate trials being there wouldn't help much.

Edit: added last paragraph
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

A small company created for this sole purpose could bid on CoH with Kickstarter support and raise whatever funds are needed, but.. at this point i kind of doubt that NCSoft actually wants to sell it at all.
If they let it stay dead, that is dollars that someone else won't be earning with their former title. No one picking up CoH means more customers who will be eligible to buy one of their other products.

sorinkon

no offense but its kinda annoying how people keep changing the title to my stuff....... when i once posted city of heroes minecraft project back online in all caps on OTHER GAMES someone thought they brought it back can anyone think of any reason why someone would think city of heroes would come back do to that title

Aggelakis

No, your previous post was something like "CITY OF HEROES BACK ONLINE FOR MINECRAFT PROJECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (the minecraft part was near the end) - uh, yeah, NO! Also capslock and exclamation points are obnoxious. Use your words correctly.

And the title to THIS post was "Blizzard taking COX/COH" - uh, yeah, again, no, that did not happen.

I will continue to edit your titles until you start writing titles that reflect the content of the post.

No thanks. I've played a few Blizzard games, and I'd just as soon remember CoH as it was. Unless, of course, they bought it just to put it on life support indefinitely, without altering it.

Pinnacle Blue

No thanks.  I don't want to play World of Heroes... Craft.
Warshades don't take Alphas.  They give Alphas.

Among the things I liked about CoH was no forced PVP, no contrived blood-pressure-raising mechanics to encourage PVP as a release, and no system-wrecking spyware to reduce cheating in PVP. I really doubt Blizzard could support a game like that.

Well, to be fair there's no mandatory PvP in WoW. That said, were Blizzard to acquire CoH, they'd likely render every powerset identical to all others within an archetype and merge various stats together. Also, every mission would include a pop culture reference.

General Idiot

To be fair, quite a few missions already did include pop culture references. Not to the overwhelming extent that WoW does, though. See here: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Ingame_References
