Familiar Hero Sightings

Two years ago this guy ChimoruCOH made this Marvel vs Capcom 2 montage using City of Heroes to recreate a bunch of Capcom and Marvel characters. It's pretty awesome.

I've got some sightings of familiar heroes in my screenshots, but it's gonna take me a while to look through them. I've got tens of thousands of screenies.

The screenies and the stories were fun!  Thanks for the pleasant nostalgia.   :)

I used to make copywrited heroes on servers not to play but just to see how close I can make them.

I had one server filled with 12 from the Legion of Superheroes and another server with 12 from the golden age JSA.
Some of them you could make like 99% perfect.

I once made a shield scrapper called "Cyber America" that was a cyborg in a REALLY good Cap outfit. I later got the costume returned to default by the devs with a nice little message. They let me keep the name though.

This was when Cap was 'dead' so the bio was Paragon was testing out a robotic replacement.

That is cool stuff.

But on the otherhand I see why many devs and gam publishers dont delve too much into the creativity customization department. Sometimes as good as those toons are, on a live game can be a lawsuit waiting to happen. Then why build a game with deep customization if everyone is goign to just build the Hulk Batman Superman Thor DR Doom anyways? Might as well make a game with the real thing and no worries about lawsuits or having to destroy a copyright thing that was only meant as a homage and not to harm and tickign off a player?

I still find it hilarious that Marvel tried to get City of Heroes shut down on those grounds, but it was later discovered that Marvel's own employees were playing the game as Marvel lookalikes.

I think that discovery was what ultimately ended the lawsuit.

or led to some sort of settlement.

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?
If you guessed this one is not like the others,
Then you're absolutely...right!

this is like a photobomb for COH'ers, once I noticed it in the first photo, all I can see is Ghost Widow, lol.

Night-Hawk07

I think I ran into "Thor" from the first post towards the end.

I'd done a few myself, but usually they never became characters. Did make a few "homage" characters though (please don't be too big, please don't be too big, please don't be too big...):

(These three should be obvious)

(Top left to bottom right: Atim Saiyan, Zero'Wing, Texas'Star, Crimson Cardinal, Sound'Wave (real inventive that one...), Primed)

Olde Glory

The only two "tribute" characters that I ever made were Starbrand from Marvel's New Universe adn Hawk from Hawk & Dove. Unfortunately, I lost screen shots when my hard drive wiped. Despite being rediculously accurate (including names as close as I could get them) They were so obscure that they were never reported. :p

You're not counting The Human Torch (fire armor)?
Teams are the number one killers of Soloists.

I almost added that in, but left it with the costume pieces.   :)
