ok so code walker posted a how-to somewhere and I can't find it now, it contained info on how to run CoH without the NCSoft installer.

I am interested in trying this.

I know he said we can get onto our accounts and the character creator that way. but if we load a map we insta die.

Uh... no?  Since the NCsoft servers are no longer running CoH code, there's no way to access your account for CoH.  What you can still do is run Icon and bypass login to directly enter the costume creator to play around in there.  It's just a big costume sandbox, though.

I think he's talking about the thread where someone was hex editing using Cheat Engine, and managed to load an empty map of sky.

It was done through using Icon.

Nothing significant came of it, however.
