I never liked the OP because it's Richist. It's not nice to put people into groups.

This was one of the things I liked the very most about playing online games was that you didn't have to give away any RL stuff and could be judged purely by how you were in the game. Don't even get me started on how games are, now. I'll completely hijack my own post.. I mean they're still fun but they've lost all their glamour. Now they're more like candy in vending machines. I like candy but I miss the old sense of accomplishment that came from being considered a good and/or knowledgeable player.

Anyway, someone spammed this post recently. It was deleted but it reminded me that it's bad to put people into groups and I wanted this thread to end with an apology for that.

Announcements / External Messaging Services
Last post by Blondeshell - September 28, 2024, 04:06:34 AM
All links to external messaging services within individual profiles have been removed. The reasoning for this is that all of those services have been shut down, and this will help prevent any potential security risks that might come from leaving personal information in an abandoned visible place. This affected 181 total profiles, but 58 of those never posted on the forums and 23 were spam accounts. (Interestingly, spam accounts made up more than half of those that used ICQ.)

For reference, this is when the various services shut down and how extensively they were used:

MSN - April 30, 2013 (89 profiles)
AIM - December 15, 2017 (88 profiles)
YIM - July 17, 2018 (100 profiles)
ICQ - June 26, 2024 (32 profiles)

Can't remember how far I made it but I remember going from "hey, this is different it has potential" to "I'll save this for later" pretty early on.

I started it, then I admit my eyes glazed over either in episode 2 or 3.

Announcements / Archive Forum
Last post by Sekoia - June 09, 2024, 09:57:01 PM
I just reorganized a bunch of our forums into a new read-only Archive forum. These forums were ones that have not received much/any legitimate activity in recent years, and that also were no longer relevant to the needs of the community. Locking them down as read-only bars further discussion from happening there, which narrows the scope of what our mod team has to monitor. It also condenses our forum list so that more relevant boards are easier to find.

Many of the forums I archived were obsolete because relevant active discussions now are happening at the Homecoming forums. So if you were tempted to post in ours on such topics, please go there instead! https://forums.homecomingservers.com/

General Discussion / The Iron Turd
Last post by Xev - May 16, 2024, 05:38:59 PM
You ever wonder what comes out of a wealthy person's bottom? Well it's not normal. I just had one take a dump next to me and they left a huge iron turd! I moved out in the middle of nowhere, where my great-grandparents on down moved to be in the middle of nowhere, just to end up next to a huge iron turd.

Why he picked such a small piece of land to lay such a huge turd I have no idea. I guess, because he could. It's ironic that the day before I saw how big it was to be I saw an episode of King of Queens where they put up a fence to separate their small yard from their neighbor, for privacy, and then the neighbor builds an above ground pool w/deck and that towers over their new fence and property. I feel like that episode right now.

My grandpa built two houses on that property and it never looked that small. That property has been abused ever since. Levelled, relevelled, fences down, fences up. Squatters. Failed pot growers. Every time, a piece of what my grandpa built went away. Well, it's all gone now. Both houses, some great landscaping and natural growth. And where it all ended is with a big iron turd in the middle.

The only consolation prize is I don't really see how they can destroy things any further over there. I've said that before, though. They are downhill from me and I still can't build a fence tall enough that they aren't looking down on me.

You give up a lot of things to live in the middle of nowhere. Services, decent healthcare. But it's worth it for the beauty and the privacy - is the general idea of why people move to the middle of nowhere.

There's still a chunk of mobile games to kill a few minutes here and there
See now those mobile games are the shining example of exactly what I'm talking about. They take the essence of PC games and pervert them into vending machines...... Like most everyone else I accept right from the beginning that I'll never be the star in these games. It's like an invisible check box everyone mentally checks off the first time a mobile game loads. "Click here to accept you're never gonna win".

But I keep playing them! That's all I play lately + their PC versions.

Marvel SNAP is sorta a version of Magic that I was playing and still want to when there's more time. Playing Raid: Shadow Legends right now, which, I think is like Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes (edit: it's not. that looks kinda cool I'm downloading it. Edit2: yes it's like Raid hehe). I tried Marvel STRIKE Force but it didn't pass the audition for some reason. SNAP and Raid started on mobile and added PC versions.

I can't believe anyone is playing original Fallout and Gauntlet as their main games. Is what I thought at first. But then I thought hmmmm I kinda want to play some X-Com now.. maybe some Command HQ... StarCraft? Wasteland? Escape from Hell? Some of those old games stand up really well. It's great that a lot of them have been modernized enough to keep running. It was a real challenge to keep up with them when they were new due to there were so many good new games coming out then. I should build my collection back up..

Overall, I've moved to consoles

Console games have passed me by. Lived in an arcade for years so I can appreciate console games but when I went PC I just kinda stayed there except for I had to get a N64 due to I had to own a machine that Nintendo lost money on with every sale. It felt like buying the future. it had all that powah. I'd like to recommend my wireless Logitech controller for PC but it's well over 10 years old. I guess you're doing console now so it doesn't mattah.

Most of the time I play single player games

See I never do this anymore, since, like, EverQuest. I should.. For some reason it doesn't feel 'real' unless there's other people around.

That's weird you're all playing/recently played Fallout!

I know how you feel. The only play is City of and Swtor time to time. Most of the time I play single player games such as Fallout 4 and Skyrim, among others. Take some time off and enjoy playing other games.

CoX was the last MMO (borderline Only) I played and even when HC poked its head out I really wasn't playing all that much. Part of the issue being that KB / M play causes more pain than a controller. Yes, I know it's Possible to attempt to get one to work for PC, but I also Hate the clicky-click of my XB controllers (prefer my PS) and those would be the easiest to get setup. Overall, I've moved to consoles and tend to be found playing things like Starfield (XB), that Disney game that was Supposed to be F2P on release (PS), and general puzzle games (Switch). I've played others (TLoU, Fallout, etc) as well over time, but my recent change in work style has severely condensed the time I have to cool down anymore.
