Ok Titans, I present to you *dramatic music* the Quickchat Menu fix!
I'm sure you're all familiar with the emote button located at the bottom right side of the chat window. And I'm sure you're all aware that several of the "locked" emotes from purchase packs are grayed out and not selectable from that menu... that is until now!

Pretty cool, huh?
So shall we begin? Oh and one more thing, this is for Windows only. If you're on a Mac, I'm unable to help you, sorry.
- Please note: the links provided in the steps below are preconfigured and incorporate many of the new commands such as mapmove and die rolling options. And many of the new emotes that have been made available for use on the titan forums as well as a few new ones.
ParagonChat 1.0 Windows Users can now download the hassle free installer...
QuickChat.exe (https://www.dropbox.com/s/k42aaiay22rv0cv/QuickChat.exe?dl=1)
Please Note: It is preconfigured to install directly into your ParagonChat, so there is no need to change the destination folder.
ParagonChat 1.0 Advance Instructions
(you can skip these instructions if you've already ran the installer above)
1. In Windows Explorer, open the folder at %APPDATA%\ParagonChat\Config
2. Rename the current emote.cfg to emote.cfg.bak, as well as the zone.cfg file to zone.cfg.bak. This will keep your original configuration as backup files if needed later.
3. Next Download this preconfigured emote.cfg (https://www.dropbox.com/s/a3vcmppj12j4sn4/emote.cfg?dl=1) file and zone.cfg (https://www.dropbox.com/s/2tk4vvvt0ul0zgb/zone.cfg?dl=1) file into the "Config" folder
4. Now, open the folder at %APPDATA%\ParagonChat\Client\Data\texts\English\menus
5. Download the new quickchat.mnu (https://www.dropbox.com/s/jlo9cccjl7asri8/quickchat.mnu?dl=1) file and place it inside the folder named "menus"
6. That's it... you're done. Now open the game and have fun!
If there are any other emotes you'd like to see added to the list simply attach the bit strings in the thread below and it will be added into the structure with future updates.
Finally I'd like to thank Imblazed247 (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6156), FloatingFatMan (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=16980), and Arcana (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2158) as well as any others not mentioned (or known) for their work on customized emotes which have been added into the structure under the Custom Emotes section of the menu. As well as Orht (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=24769) for discovering the mission maps that have been added for your convenience.
Thanks for all the work!
I have a QoL suggestion, if you don't mind: Putting the actual emote command in parentheses after the menu text would be helpful for people making binds or just wanting to skip the menu when doing some more frequent emotes.
I know a lot of these commands are identical to the menu text aside from spacing, so you could probably skip those. But a lot are not the same as the menu text. For example, Music/Bounce is actually dance5; emoting bounce does nothing. So I'd suggest having the menu read something like "Bounce (dance5)". You already have at least one of these "Epic Fail(DoubleFacePalm)"
There are also several alternate emotes for some of them (Robodance springs to mind), but I think whichever emote is shortest would probably be sufficient.
(I know I could go through and add all these myself, but I figure others might find it useful too.)
Last week or whenever, I went through and fixed the standard quickchat menu. That was a task, let me tell you. Even if you all you did was compile some disparate lists, that's a good bit of work. Thanks for doing this, it's very appreciated.

I'm actually already working on creating those as aliases. After seeing how big the popup window was getting, I chose not to do list the emote name in parentheses . I'm aware that some of these emotes that are in the menu do not match the actual emote command. I intend to have those as aliases released sometime in the near future. So all you'll need to replace is the emote.cfg when the time comes, I'll let you know :)

The Custom emotes added here are very addicting 8)..and thank you for allowing us to access all of the regular emotes as well :D

Again, thank you for your hard work ;D

Can this be used on the game when it comes back?
I do believe so, since the documentation I used to create it is dated from way back when...
See Paragon Wiki:Quickchat (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Quickchat_(Slash_Command))
Or...
see this thread... (http://web.archive.org/web/20120905021611/http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=867593) which references the date "Feb 12th, 2009 @ 03:15 AM." I can only assume that since this is when the game was live it should work, just not a lot of people either used or knew of this feature...
Hope this helps. I'll have a new update to the files tomorrow sometime as well.
Wow! It's safe to say you're the awesomest. This is going to help me tremendously.
So, how does one go about performing Step 3?
I don't really know what buttons to push or icons to drag or whatever to download those files into the Config folder. As far as I can tell, I'm already in the Config folder by following step 1 and the changes I made in step 2 I assume are in the Config folder.
Obviously I am pretty computer illiterate, but I'd like to at least try to follow these instructions before begging one of my tech-buddies for help.
To download the files, just click on them. This will open a new tab/window that should look something like this:
Click on the Download button. (If Dropbox asks you to login, you can ignore that. Just click on the webpage and that prompt will go away. Then you can click Download.)
You will get a prompt asking if you want to open the file or save it. Click save.
Do this for both files.
Once that's done, since you've already accomplished steps 1 and 2, you know how to find the Paragon Chat/config folder.
Put both of those files into that folder.
Proceed to step 4.
Thanks for helping! I just noticed the question was gonna answer but ya nailed it to the wall
Do these work in Icon alone or only in Paragon Chat?
Only in Paragon Chat. Titan Icon uses a different format to display emotes/powers/npc/relocate.
I've made it as far as step 4 and got a little lost. I assumed I was meant to go to the CoH file under NCSoft (never deleted the old stuff). There was no "data" folder so I tried to download the compressed file in the link, but my computer keeps telling me it's an invalid folder.
What you need to do is this:
Step 4. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to where cityofheroes.exe is.
For me, the one Titan Icon and Paragon Chat uses is D:\CohBeta
The easiest way to find where to put these files is to right click your Paragon Chat launcher and take note of where the Target line is.
Continuing with step 4:
The case is very important and this will not work if you do it wrong. (Don't worry, it's not unfixable!)

Opens fine for me, so try redownloading it, or just ignore the zipfile and download the textfile itself (also linked in the OP) and just create the folders. Really, it takes seconds...

That would be wonderful! But alas I do not hold such sway over the powers that be... If this is something that's wanted, you'll need to let Codewalker know personally.
I followed the quickchat instructions, renamed both files to .bak,
downloaded the emote, quickchat.mnu files, into data, but I have the issue23 under tequila.

even my old emotes don't work...just my bind keys. :o

I'm all out of bubblegum, and I've forgotten what I came for.
Any chance of recreating the "level up" as an emote? Seems like most of it would be possible.
As it turns out, it is possible to unlock the emotes for the mac.
First enable hidden files if you have not already done so, because not all of us are good with computers. :P
Here is the file path to the equivalent to %APPDATA% for a mac. TechnicalMercy is a placeholder for the user name:
/Users/TechnicalMercy/.wine/drive_c/users/TechnicalMercy/Application\ Data/Paragon\ Chat/Config
1. In Finder, open the folder at
/Users/TechnicalMercy/.wine/drive_c/users/TechnicalMercy/Application\ Data/Paragon\ Chat/Config(The rest of the instructions are the same.)
2. Rename the current emote.cfg to emote.cfg.bak, as well as the zone.cfg file to zone.cfg.bak. This will keep your original configuration as backup files if needed later.
3. Next Download this preconfigured emote.cfg file and zone.cfg file into the "config" folder
4. Now, open the folder you've installed CoH to and navigate to \data\texts\English\menus
4b. If the "data" folder is not present in your CoH directory then you'll need to create it as well as the corresponding folders "texts" then
"English" and finally "menus" (or download this zipfile and unpack it into you're coh folder, if you pick this step then you can skip step 5)
5. Download the new quickchat.mnu file and place it inside the folder named "menus"
6. That's it... you're done. Now open the game and have fun!
Thanks to lexicon for the original instructions. ;D
The link for the CoH client is not working.
As for finding CoH files, where did everyone else save there's?
Additional info:
The commands in Costume Changes and Custom Emotes will show up as thought bubbles instead of animation when they're selected using the steps given. This can be changed, but you need to edit the emote file you just copied into Paragon Chat's app data.
IF YOU ARE NOT COMFY EDITING A CONFIGURATION FILE, YOU CAN IGNORE THIS. The file from the OP instructions maps all the basic emotes with the Super Pack emotes included (Wedding, Super science, Animal, etc.).
1. Press Win+R and type in "%APPDATA%\Paragon Chat\Config".
2. Right click emote.cfg, and open the file in Notepad. Past the commented out intro box (each line starts with a #), you'll see there are a number of emotes with comment marks in front of them (#). If you remove those marks on every line that starts with "Emote", "Bits", or "End", you should be able to use those emotes.
In the menu bar, Edit, Replace is your friend. Try changing "# Emote" to " Emote" (replace # with a single space, or nothing.) Rinse and repeat with the other two statements.
Heads up: Resist the temptation to just replace "#" with " ", as other comments in the file separating other user's custom emotes are present. Uncommenting those lines will break the file and Paragon Chat will not run. (A error dialog will mention that emote.cfg is broken and you need to edit or replace the file with the original.) If this happens, either replace the .cfg file with your original one (After all, you did remember to rename and keep the original files, right?) or edit the file and either put a # in front of a comment that is not a part of the Emote commands (each comment will occupy a single line, where emotes will take up three), or delete the comment lines where you see them.
3. Once finished, save the file. If you're using Paragon Chat, you need to close out of City of Heroes AND Paragon Chat, since emote.cfg parses when Paragon Chat is opened for the first time. If you close COH and log back in without closing Paragon Chat, you'll have the same issue since you're still working off of the old .cfg file still in memory.
Log back in and enjoy the full menu. :D

It's been past a month since you wrote this, but if you can't get I24 files, head here: http://www.savecoh.com/p/download-issue-24-beta.html (http://www.savecoh.com/p/download-issue-24-beta.html) Otherwise, not sure what you're asking. Did you try this fix and it didn't work for you? Are you running I24 from cityofheroes.exe and not getting in?
I have followed the steps to get the new Quickchat set up, but none of the new Zones, Custom or Costume Change entries seems to work. I looked in the folders and made sure the files have the right names and peeked inside and see the new Emotes listed, but they just don't work.
I copied the zone.cfg and emotes.cfg to \USERS\{myname}\APPDATA\Roaming\ParagonChat\Config folder and
quickchat.mnu to \Program Files (x86)\CohBeta\data\text\English\menus
I edited the emote.cfg and search/replaced '# Emote' to ' Emote', '# Bits' to ' Bits' and '# End' to ' End' in front of the new emotes, but it seems to do nothing extra.
It comes up in my COH from the emote bubble or by /quickchat and looks normal. I have seen other people doing CCNuke and /e malfunction, but it won't work in my copy. What do I have set up wrong?
FOLLOWUP: ODD, but it seems to matter which drive your COH files are on. My COH was installed on my H: drive and ParagonChat was pointing to it in the Desktop link, both Start In and for Target, but I noticed the -pcdir said: ' -pcdir c:\cohchat'. I copied the modified zone.cfg and emote.cfg file to C:\cohchat\config and now they work. I didn't expect to find two sets of Config files, but there they were.
So I hopped onto ParagonChat tonight and someone (I think lexicon?) helped me to install all of this. I got it working, hopped around a few zones and everything, then had to log off for a while. Now, when I try to log back in, I get...
As far as I can tell, the files are where they should be...

CW Edit: Moved from bug thread since this is an issue with a third party addon.
Just a heads up, Paragon Chat 1.0 is in final testing, and if all goes well is scheduled to go live tomorrow. This release affects mods like this one that use client data overrides.
In 1.0 and later, data overrides need to go into %APPDATA%\ParagonChat\Client\Data, not into the COH install itself (they will be ignored if you put them there). Mods like this one won't work until they are updated for the new location.
On the bright side, since data overrides now go into the same tree as the cfg files, making a package that includes both should be a little easier.

I've not seen this issue, I'm curious as to what platform you're running?
Interestingly enough, this Phoebus link can lead you to three different places, depending on where you port from!
Two of us today were experimenting and you could end up 1) On the front porch of the temple 2) In a cave with corridors or 3) On a boat inside a cave, with a force barrier blocking the cave mouth. If you port there from Atlas, we would end up in 1 or 2. From Pocket D or from Praetoria, I would end up in 3. Some sites would consistently give the same destination but Atlas and Pocket D varied.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. It's probably not actually anything wrong with the executable, I had the same thing happen with Paragon Chat itself a while back and I never figured out what caused it there either - just fixed itself after a while. Probably a bug in my computer somewhere but not severe enough for me to bother fixing cause if I do it'll generate a new one or two and they might be worse.

You can also follow the install instructions below the quickchat link. It's really simple to do once you find the main folder for paragonchat
Paragon Chat has been upgraded to Version 1.0, as of...April 2nd? I think. All of a sudden....my menu has gone back to the original one. No QuickPort. :-( Help! I've checked all the files, I have the emote.cfg and zone.cfg files, in the right place, and the quickchat.mnu file, in the right folder, I've opened each of them with Notepad to check the contents, which look right....and yet when I log into Paragon Chat, there is only the original Emote menu, no sign of QuickPort at all. Has anyone else reported this? Can you help me fix it? :gonk:

I noticed this about the FrostFire link, as well. Depending on my starting location, I port into one of three locations...one by the front door, one near the Lvl 1-2 elevators, and one near the Lvl 2-3 elevators. The unfortunate thing is I can't find any way into the half-pipe room! :-) What are our chances of either getting some control over landing spot, or else getting the doors to unlock/open inside missions? Is there anything I can do to help work this out? P.S. what are the chances of getting a link to the Cavern of Transcendence/Cavern Trial map?

I had an interesting time helping someone that could run PChat, but not the QChat add-on. I got into his hard disk and searched EVERYWHERE for his City of Heroes files so I could re-install PChat and make sure the pointers were pointing to the right files. Turns out they were in Documents in a folder named 'New Folder'! So, I ran the PChat installer with the '-nux' option (causes the installer to ignore any previous installs and install as new) and of course, it didn't find the files. I renamed 'New Folder' to 'COH' and ran it again and it didn't find the COH files, so I used the Browse option to point it to the \Documents\COH folder. It identified the files as I24 and installed without error. Then I downloaded and installed the QChat mod and it ran perfectly.
So, if Qchat is not installing, locate the COH files, rerun PChat install with -nux and point it to the COH files you found, and then install QChat.
NOTES: Exit PChat and COH. Turn OFF your antivirus while installing (and you may have to tell it later to not test PChat so it won't block it).
Just wanted to say thanks for this. I've used it more than once on diff devices, and it always works like a charm. Much appreciated.

Change it to
Zone 6700
# "Praetorian Tech 60"
MapFile "maps/Missions/P_Tech/P_Tech_60/P_Tech_60_Layout_01_01.txt"
RoomName "Praetorian Tech 60"
Category "Praetorian Tech"
End
also add this line near the beginning of the file with the other categories, if you haven't already:
Category "Praetorian Tech"
Make a copy of zone.cfg and call it zone.cfg.backup or whatever you like. You can find zone.cfg by clicking the folder icon on the ParagonChat login screen and navigating to the folder called Config.
Open up zone.cfg in a text editor, and add the following lines at the end:
Zone 5898
# "Sewer Trial"
Mapfile "maps/MISSIONS/UNIQUE/TRIALROOMS/SEWERS/TRIAL_01_01_ROOM.txt"
Category "Other"
RoomName "Sewer Trial"
End
Restart Paragon Chat, and you should be able to get onto the trial map with /mapmenu or /mapmove 5898. The badge is at the bottom of the shaft in the ooze.
The zone number (5898 here) needs to be unique, so look the file over and change it if necessary.
If you've defined a better Category at the beginning of zone.cfg, for example "Sewer" or "Trial" you can substitute that where I've put "Other"
If you don't put a Category, or you put an undefined one, I believe it won't work with /mapmenu.
A huge thanks for all the work put into this lifesaver. <3

How would I find the map for the Haunted Mansion, or the Midnighter's mansion in Nightward?
Haunted Mansion: /mapmenu > Other > 8996 Haunted House
And you can just walk into the Midnigher Mansion in Night Ward.

Odd, I don't see that as an option in my Paragon Chat, although I have lots of other "Other" mission maps.
Odd. Even one of my older installations has it. You could edit your zone.cfg file to include it:
Zone 8996
# "Haunted House"
MapFile "maps/Missions/Unique/Halloween2011/Halloween2011.txt"
RoomID HauntedHouse
RoomName "Haunted House"
End
Trying to get praetorian peace stand and others to work that are not included in this. I see in the playerseqs that it should be something like:
Emote PRAETORPEACE
Bits ENCOUNTER POSE STAND BOWING
End
Added it to the bottom of my emote.cfg file and I've had issues using this method on some emotes while others work flawlessly after doing this.
