when did this thread become about how smart Arcana *says* she is?

According to your quote, March 7.  It currently appears to be about redneck beer.  And its only Wednesday.

It's not. This thread's discussion ranges over a vast number of topics. It occasionally touches on how ridiculous Arcana is (as in, she knows way too much about a large amount of things, she has to be a robot); it also occasionally touches on ketchup, stars, trucks, City of Heroes, movies, board games, and a huge number of other things.

Nothing has happened with City of Heroes proper, and it has been a very long time since there was any reason to think that anything is ever going to happen.

When Arcana decided we all cared.

Which was about the same time she retold the anecdote of having to explain "why?", to her young niece and nephew.

Which was after most other people decided the thread wasn't a college lecture, and unless it was specifically warranted, to "allow" people to speak colloquially as they would in "most" informal settings - because social skills...

She's smart sure, fun - not so much.

Interesting topic is interesting though - I did gain a new appreciation for just how smart Einstein was - that his theories are still today finally being proven & that those theories are seemingly so advanced compared to others is amazing.

Just to think about how he was able to deduce the things he did is eye opening!!

I'm sure there are lots of other intelligent people he can thank for helping, but it seems the lions share falls to him - how he doesn't win a bunch of Nobel prizes posthumously I'll never know...

Funny thing is, I'm always reminded of that photo of him with his tongue poking out anytime I think about him - what a pancaking legend!!

They don't award them posthumously: http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/facts/ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Prize#Posthumous_nominations)

Now you know.

And knowing is half the battle.

There's also nothing the Nobel prize committee could award him a Nobel prize for.  Einstein already is a Nobel prize winner.  Due to a number of weird political shenanigans** surrounding Einstein at the time, Einstein was awarded the 1921 Nobel prize for physics "for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect."  Even if Einstein were still alive, they can't give him another Nobel prize for his work on special and general relativity, since he technically already has one for that work.

Today, Einstein would have definitely received the Nobel prize for special and general relativity, and possibly *also* for his work on quantum photon theory.  It *is* possible to win the Nobel prize twice.  In fact, I believe all three individually are Nobel-worthy by today's standards.  It is just that because his work on special and general relativity happens so close together and are interwined, it is likely he would have gotten a single award for the combined work if it happened today.  The photoelectric effect, on the other hand, is a completely different animal.

That's more than enough help from you thanks :P

That said, apart from some silly rule (the irony!!), how does he not receive something more in recognition of what he's done for science - breaking a rule seems fitting!!

I mean, GR is pretty huge.

(Which I'm pretty sure he didn't win for?)

Bollocks.

In the absence of actual information from people who are in a position to know, there is no reason to believe that anything has happened, is happening or is going to happen with City of Heroes.  It's a dead property and there is next to zero incentive for NCSoft to do anything with it at all except let it rot.

I love me some City of Heroes, but that's not going to make me pretend that the game's going to come back until some tangible evidence appears to suggest that.  There has been nothing like that in over a year.

So, if you have data - present it.  If not, please save your smug condescension for a context where it might be appropriate.

Vee

There are contexts where smug condescension is inappropriate? Whatever is the world coming to?

There are a few, but in some cases it is still considered appropriate only while wearing a sweater vest.

Tesla is in my book one of the smartest of all time. A LOT of his designs and work on motors and generators still have never been improved on. In fact he could do some things with electricity we have never been able to duplicate to this day.
