I know this has been said before, but I will say it again: This is not a relatively simple, straight forward transaction. This is the sale of an intellectual property and all its related code from a multi-national corporation to an entirely new business entity being created with the specific intention of holding and exploiting this property. This is a huge, complicated deal that could and probably will take years. Anyone thinking it's just a case of "sign a few papers, hand over some discs, why is it taking so long?" needs to manage their expectations better.

"You set the terms, you can change them..." Vision to Ultron.

This could be over and done with in two seconds if they really wanted to. They simply don't want to. Everything else is just so much bureaucratic nonsense to make things feel big and important.

Can you give examples of similar deals that were done "in two seconds"? Not trying to call you out, just wanting some facts to back up your statement.

Seriously?

You think all that BS is absolutely necessary? If you wanted to buy something from me, and I made you go through miles of red tape just to get it done, you wouldn't think that was unnecessary and I was just dragging my feet? This isn't AT&T trying to merge with Verizon, where the government would step in and engage in a lengthy process to find out of it's fair or not. It's just a single IP they're sitting on.

Heck, I remember when Commodore went under and the rights to produce more Amiga computers started changing hands very quickly. We're talking a matter of months. If a company really, truly wants something to happen, that's about how long it would take.

Sony Online Entertainment was wholesale sold to another company by Sony, including DCUO, which involves intellectual property owned by a third party. How long did that take?

Excellent point, especially considering that not every game in the stable that was sold is even finished or running yet, which complicates matters even beyond that multi-country deal.  We had a major Japanese gaming firm (Sony/Playstation) severing ties with an American company who made a whole slew of games for them, the devs being SOE who had to reincorporate as a completely different company, Daybreak Games.  Everquest, EQ2, Planetside 2, DCUO, and to some extent H1Z1 and Landmark (who both have Early Access betas running) were all up and running and sold, along with developers SOE (who then became Daybreak), to Russian Investment Firm Columbus Nova, further congesting this process.  Still-in-development Everquest Next (EQ3) also went along with that deal as well.

And still, it took less than a year to wrap it all up from start to finish (which ended in February, 2015).  In fact, Perfect World International was only one final signature away from buying SOE and all their games that previous summer of 2014 (per the devs and EQ2 Wire), when Smedley supposedly tanked the deal at the last minute (maybe his golden parachute wasn't sparkly enough).  So the Columbus Nova buyout took about eight months, tops.

Can you tell I'm an old Sony girl (still playing EQ2 even today)?   :P

As long as this forum exists I will spot check now and then.  I think all that can be said is said outside of random user conjecture and theory.  I look forward to the day the announcement will happen... Even if it is years from now and a new generation of players play another game called COH or if the whole convoluted disk image thing happens.  Either way no skin off our asses it's Downix / Secret Buyers / whoever else that has put their time and $$ into this.

While I agree that a sale usually takes as long as the seller takes to make a decision, I can't believe it would take this long for them to say "No."

I don't always get sucked into a jet engine and live to talk about it, but when I do I use the new ICD-10 V97.33XD code.  Because things like that need to be trended by your insurance company and your money!

Until they outright say no, it's still a possibility.

Sorry LadyVamp but I don't think anyone can "give us the look and feel of CoH but with advancements NCSoft/Paragon Studios couldn't or wouldn't build into CoH".CoH while not perfect will never be replaced.
I truly believe not matter how many successor project's are done or new technologies used to make games look better CoH will be the only game and home for some of us.I'll continue to wait for it's return
not for anything else.CoH Accept No Substitutes   :) :) :)

If you're waiting on the original, you'll be waiting forever.  But, it you are willing to accept a possible hybrid, you're likely to be back in the saddle with the rest of us.  I wouldn't shoot down a replacement just yet.

Give it a chance.  At least one of the successors is being created by like minded former players of CoH.
No Surrender!

Sometimes that happens but usually it's for minor things like buying office supplies or coffee.  Things as large as IP usually involve weeks of negotiation if not months, lawyers to review contracts, payments often with escrow accounts, etc.  That stuff can take weeks, months, even years.  Negotiations can break down, cool off for a few months, then be back on again.  Lawyers can send contracts back because of problems from legal to random acts of foolishness.  Venture capital or other finances might not line up or may withdraw.
No Surrender!

My two cents...

If I was negotiating and I had a deal with NCSoft, not a single person not involved would know until it was ready to roll-out for everyone to play.  You can talk all you want about VO and COT but lets face it... they'll NEVER hold a candle to CoH.  Interest in this game, for the true fans, will never be lost.  All you naysayers sound like a bunch of petulant 5-year-olds: "I'm leaving and I'm taking my ball with me".  Well you know what?  Don't let the doorknob hit you on the way out, but... you know you'll be back once it's up and running.

If I've offended anyone... get over it.
If I was a Jedi, there's a 100% chance that I'd use The Force inappropriately.

"i am leaving and I am taking my ball with me"..that was what ncsoft said to us. negotiations may or may not be happening...we dont know. but there will come a point where the end product will no longer be worth buying. every company that makes deals does not take years to do it. they would be out of business if that was the case. I am hoping coh comes back, but it is hard for people to wait  unlimited amounts of time.  I am hoping we hear something good soon. I am not betting the farm on that though.

GenericHero05

You would still come back, right?  I mean if you had found anything out there that could possibly fill that CoH itch, you wouldn't be here posting.  I'm sure you tried VO.  It wasn't even close.  It was like New Coke vs Classic Coke or a Swisher Sweets vs a Cuban Cigar.  It was brutal.

Generic, I know this is completely off topic but what does your motto/personal text mean?

I have a question for everyone who have recently posted on this thread... Have you all forgotten that NCsoft is a Korean company and as such, has different ways they go about things?

I mean, think about it, the whole start of the Deal depended on a third party introducing the Team to NCsoft, there was no going up to NCsoft and laying everything on the table right then and there.

I'm not going to claim I know how Korean Companies work because in reality, I know very very little, but please keep in mind that NCsoft is a KOREAN Company, not an American one... So, pseudo-arguing between each other about what NCsoft is or isn't doing or how they're taking their sweet old time just is a waste of energy and doesn't accomplish anything.

And to clarify, I'm not trying to "parent" anyone, I'm just trying to make sure nothing escalates to the point of no return (call me worrisome, it's just a part of who I am)

CoX will be coming back... it may not be as soon as some people would like, but that's life. I actually have set aside a nice chunk of change for when it does come back to A) Buy as much as possible and B) Purchase a new gaming laptop.

Not sure who said it, but MWM is not involved in CoX Legacy. Yes Nate is spearheading CoX Legacy and yes he is a big part of MWM, but CoH Legacy is in NO way a part of MWM.

While I am a fan of VO and hope it the best...When CoH comes back it (CoH) will be the game that gains almost all of my attention.

I have no issue with people doubting the return of CoH...but as in real life... I tend to ignore/distance myself from negative people (Especially when I know their negativity is unfounded).

Actually, I have more faith lately thanks to a completely unrelated event: the MST3K revival.

It took five full years for Joel Hodgson and Shout Factory to buy the rights to MST3K from Best Brains, Inc. (who were mostly just sitting on it - they certainly weren't producing any new content for it).

And the CoH negotiations haven't been going on for five years.  But they are still going on.  There's still a chance.

Even if it also takes five years.

Wait, you mean the 10 seasons sitting on my external waiting for me to wade through them are about to grow? le sigh
