Intellectual Greek Philosophical culture (from some time before the rise of Athens) considered the equinox's of vast importance because they marked the gates to the higher heavens -- the doorways to the outer heavens on the great sphere of fixed stars that enclosed the world.  Their significance was that those were the places on the sky where the two Cosmic circles crossed (the circle of the equator and that of the Zodiac -- which is the circle of the planets' path).  The Solstices were those places where the path of the Planets was at greatest distance from the circle of the equator which was the mid-section, the"belt" if you will, of the cosmos.

Its unclear to me if this idea of the solstice as a more cosmological occurrence is explicitly linked with the solstice as a more meteorological event.  They are obviously linked by virtue of being ultimately the same astronomical event, but I've never seen these two ideas linked in any way in historical discussions.

Lets just go for the home run right here.  No one reliable has actually said much of anything about the specific cause(s) of the shutdown.  What's been presented has run the gamut from informed speculation to uninformed speculation to side effects may include drowsiness, inability to focus, hallucinations, dementia, and an inability to recall posting about Korean companies while asleep.

I can live with those side effects.

When CoH comes back would it be possible to run both the Halloween event and the Christmas event at the same time, like maybe for a month straight, just to make up for lost time?

I can't believe it's coming up on three years. It seems like yesterday.

Depends on the tradition -- the Orphics and (possibly) the Pythagorean school (if they were different) were strongly Cosmically oriented with heavy "astrological" elements but those were tagged onto the more "organic" traditions of God/Hero pieties that varied by local tradition and were only syncretized after the fact.  How strong that element was in actual Greek practice in the classical age is remarkably unclear.  Hesiod survived and the Orphics are in fragments, but was that reflective of popularity or just luck of the draw?  Secretive traditions are harder to see in the record but may be more influential.

But any time you see "Cross" iconography in Greek classical imagery -- especially a circle with an "X" in it (like the X-men logo) you're almost certainly seeing reference to the intersection of the two cosmic "belts" -- the image is also a symbol meaning "the world" since it summarizes the largest scale features.
