I wouldn't hold your breath for that money pit, if I were you...  Biggest con I've ever seen, that thing is...

So what makes you hate on Chris Roberts so?  He has the most transparent development of any game studio I have ever seen.  The fact that he is beholden to the consumer and not EA, Activision, or NCSoft should be enough to get the support, if not the respect, from everyone here.

I fear if we have to start from scratch, a lot of casual players will not be interested in the game. So a few thousand hardcore players will continue.

But is that enough to keep the game going ?

So many games out there....... Star Citizen not that far away  ;)

That's a piss poor excuse. Casual or not if you really want to play the game that was taken from you... Starting from scratch shouldn't matter and with how crazy the AE farms were near the end of CoX it certainly won't take long to get caught up.

Watch the anime series Sword Art Online, that should spur many a CoH related dream

Last night, whilst playing Archeage, I came across several members of the Laughing Coffin guild...

And yes, they're PKers... :O

Reading through the list of stretch goals, and the preposterous amounts of money involved (really, a million bucks for a frigging ornamental plant, another million just for a stat to improve engine cooling!?), told me all I needed to know about that game and the honesty of the people behind it.

$56million raised so far, and counting... If you people think it costs that amount of money to make a game, I've got a bridge to sell you.

So I take it you haven't bothered to check out the numerous dev diaries, Q&As with Chris Roberts, or even seen Arena Commander.  And 56 million is chump change compared to reports of what SW:ToR cost, not to mention the full budgets (including marketing) for any AAA title (check out the budgets for CoD and GTA V sometime).  Remember, CIG has no game publisher backing it, this is a purely fan supported development.  Kind of reminds me of what is happening here with CoT, CoH 1.5 and others, albeit on a much smaller scale.  And as for the stretch goals, they are not tied to development in the way you are thinking (at least not since the KS campaign ended).

Interesting.  I've heard talk of decompiler programs before, but never used one.  That said, some apparently do exist, but if what you say is true (and I certainly have no reason to doubt that, coming from you), I wonder what use they are.

Small-scale tweaks, basically. It may be easier to fix an individual bug in decompiled source than in machine code.

The other potential use is porting. It's a hard problem either way, but machine code is fundamentally quite unportable; decompiled source would merely make it extremely difficult.

Also, decompilation can be much more useful if it is known exactly what compiler and options were originally used and if debugging information is present in the compiled executable.

if you do, whatever you do, do not sub... You'll be throwing your money away.  It's a lovely game, but the levels of hacking and botting going on in there are out of control...

For a start, you can forget about getting hold of any land to build a house or farm...The hackers are using tools that lets them insta-buy anything as soon as it's available and plops a house down on it before you even know it IS available.

I even had my farm literally stolen from me 2 days ago.  Literally.  I went back to check on my crops, and the ownership had changed to someone else (though the ownership on the crops themselves was still mine). Still waiting on a reply from CS...

So far...I haven't found much need to sub. (Which is great, since I'm dirt freaking poor...and couldn't sub if I wanted to.)
Aside from being able to have property... Which I wish I had if for no other reason than a safe place for lumber and the like.

Well, there's pretty much none available.. The hackers have nabbed most of it, grab any that becomes available (without even being logged on, thanks to their tools), and are flogging off for ridiculous amounts.  I had a whisper last night offering to sell me a 24x24 plot for $150, in actual real cash money...

Meanwhile, Trion continue to deny it's even happening, despite copious amounts of proof shown to them...

I am enjoying Archeage so far (am on Naima and Enla). I am subbed from the silver founders pack (couldn't stand to miss the head start). Whether I continue to sub will depend on land availability later (just have my 8x8 farms at the moment).

1. No
2. Good question. If we ever have an answer, we'll let you know, maybe.

Despite all the optimism (which I share), it's still very much "if", not "when".  Chickens, hatching, counting, etc.
