Sorry, but what is a "pedophile site"? Is that like a place where pedophiles post pictures of children they want to molest? This seems kind of made up to me.

The woman who lives across the street is separating from her husband because he's "found himself a new girl." This new person is utterly, unquestionably bat-crap insane. She has spray painted foul language on the inside of my neighbor's house, poured sugar all over the floor in just about every room in the house, and keyed some rather ironically crazy things on the side of my neighbor's van, all while pretending not to speak English.

Sometimes, crazy is just crazy.

Pedophiles have forums where they trade information just like anyone else.  No, the sites are not made up.  You might have missed the part where I was in law enforcement.  I worked ten years in digital evidence recovery (i.e. rummaging through people's hard drives) and I would say 60-75% of my work involved child pornography.  As one of the people who took on the duty of pulling on the hip-waders and slogging through the sewers of humanity, I can tell you that there are a lot more alligators down there than people realize.

Oh, bah humbug. What is he, 12? Everyone who has been online for years has probably had their lives threatened, because talk is extraordinarily cheap out here and children/malcontents/the truly mentally ill are everywhere.

I am not condoning death threats, because I find them both stupid and childish. But real, actual fear..... nyet. This btw is coming from someone who [in the distant past] has been "doxxed," has been the recipient of multiple death-threats and actually at one truly lol-tastic point, was the recipient of a "SATANIC DEATH CURSE!!!!!" It pretty much goes with the territory if you dare to speak your opinion online. Ain't skeered. Robert needs to buck up.

But if he's resolved to be quiet for a while, that probably would be a good thing. He's jinxing stuff with his pronouncements.  8)

Everyone has their own threshold for "getting grief". I don't think it's for anyone but Robert to set his own limits on what he's prepared to put up with.

Sure, the odd death threat or satanic curse is par for the course on the series of tubes we call the internets, but that doesn't make those behaviours right and I don't hold that it is the responsibility of the recipient to "man up": it is the responsibility of society to reject those who make the threats.

Think the difference is he is actually getting text messages and phone calls. Of course idiots who actually text or called him are idiots for a reason and don't realize they leave a paper trail for the authorities to prosecute them for atleast disturbing the peace.

Ok, I'm not normally one for getting ahead of myself, but I figured it'd be ok just this one time. So I came up with an idea for when the game comes back (And it will!). The basic concept is you post an alt for the person above you to roll. Now I don't expect it to be a "first thing" when we get back, but rather something to have fun with when our mainstays are made. The format would be as follows:

Secondary:
Travel Power: (if you choose none, then it is up to the player if they want to pick one or not.)

Once it actually happens, I'd love to make a thread tracking progress of the various alts and our impressions of them.

Yes, threatening to kill someone is a crime.  It doesn't matter if it is face to face, on the phone, in an email or on any sort of message board, Facebook included.  It doesn't matter how much they say they meant it.  There have been cases where someone has threatened someone on FB and were shocked when the cops showed up on their doorstep.  There is an attitude out there that what happens on the internet "doesn't count", but I assure you it does.

It's worth pointing out that many states, mine included, feel a crime is in their jurisdiction if either the victim or the suspect are in their state.  And it's not impossible to have more than one law enforcement agency after you, since certain types of threats come under Federal law.

Because some people are whack jobs.

I've been the recipient of all kinds of accusations and threats via forums, e-mail, telephone and RL.  I had one whack job phone me from Florida.

She: "Oh, [name redacted] I'm so glad you're in my circle!"  Goes on to ramble about ghosts, UFOs, angels, etc.

Me: "I think you have the wrong [name redacted].  I get calls about UFOs for him from time to time."

She: "Well, can you put me in touch with him?"

Me: "No.  I don't have his number and I'm not 411."  Hang up.

This started a series of phone calls on various days badgering me to put her in touch with him.  I finally block her number and she starts calling from a friend's house.  I call them and leave them a message saying shes misusing their phone to harass me and block that number too.  She calls from a third phone and I block every listed area code in Florida.

Then the snail mail started coming.  Envelopes with "protected by angels" written on the outside.  I collect them and and put them in a big envelope marked "evidence" and make sure my sister knows where its kept.  Just in case I get a live visit from a whack job with a gun.

So, yes.  I know exactly what that's like and some people ARE that crazy.
