This.  This is the news I was truly hoping for.  See way I see it if the paragon studios devs could pitch(indirectly, since I guess he's only in contact) in and help occasionally and whatnot it'd be possible to develop further beyond I24 for CoX as they worked on CoX2.  Thanks for the update!

Edit: I know doesn't mean he joined the team, just in contact, but thats a good thing.

Based on my understanding of the factors involved, from all available sources with all the previous and current efforts, the more former Paragon Studios developers are associated with any effort, the less likely NCSoft will be willing to discuss a sale.  Direct correlation.  There's some... personal issues.

Now, AFAIK, none are directly involved with this one, it's only a couple that sent some emails with encouragement and some ideas to pass along. But it might be a good idea to refrain from posting about even that contact from them for now, lest it spread to more highly visible places.

Understood - I don't know which camel broke the straws back and all that. I will send such folks through quietly. Yeah Synapse didn't say he wanted a job or anything he was just excited to hear someone was trying to get the game up and running and wanted to contact them.

Ahh, I see.  As to what Codewalker said, I think he may be right in regards to this.  It may be that it'd be to early or anything.  Heck it's probably good to keep quiet until, well, we know where we are after everything is done.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Maybe he wants to offer them some information on how to handle the game's engine.

Or maybe he just wants to wish them good luck. :D

Got a nice email from Phil "Synapse" Zeleski today!

Passed him on to contact the team!

It doesn't matter if he's joining the team, or just giving moral support. The fact that he's just getting involved/paying attention to this, is amazing! That news, right there, is a pretty good birthday present, in and of itself! ;D

Being primarily a programmer, but sometimes manager or client contact for other programmers, I will say that a lot of fellow developers seem to not be ideal to be handling negotiations. We tend to rely on "bigger hammer" as a solution to far to many problems and talking about an issue (or worse, business stuff not directly related to an issue) tends to produce a frustrated reaction because we just want to get back to the code. A lot of us are unable to filter out talking about underlying structural problems / security holes in inappropriate company or can't boil down what we consider common sense into the actual language used by other humans.

As an example of a developer approach to an issue consider Positron's reaction to the original amount of AE farming: Declaring fairly aggressively how it was a shock people were using it in that manner, permanently gutting a bunch of badges, threatening character rollbacks and bans. The OMG! RAWR! was cool for shock-and-awe and a good laugh afterwards, but really what was said didn't reflect well on pre-planning (how could they not have expected the farming) or crisis handling (it seemed reactionary and out of scale). Some silent adjustments followed by a statement like "After careful analysis of live AE use, we've adjusted some factors to bring it more in line with our goals for the function. Note that some badges will have to be re-earned as their requirements have been significantly changed." would have come off as a bit more professional.

Now apply that sort of thing to a tense and detailed negotiation. :)

If the early meetings had a high percentage of developers (which seems to be the case since it involved the development team) without careful vetting of who would be the "face" for the operation and planned limits on conversational topics, I could definitely see how things could have rapidly gone off the rails. I would venture that the current buyout offer probably has a better selection of who is doing most of the talking, it likely being either the entity bankrolling the operation or a proxy chosen by them. Advised by developers but largely handling the bulk of the deal, a decent proxy can be a wonderful thing.

Kinda off target... but a question I was wondering... I know Bio-Armor was added to MIDS, were the Martial Combat/Assault sets ever added in a  build?

Let's not cry doom over Synapse contacting Wolf and The Team.

I'm not going into specifics, but believe me, he's not going to be part of the negotiations. Take my word for it.

dwturducken

I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

Well, somebody might use him as a thrown weapon to make a point or something... That's always possible.

/Necroing a post from halfway back in this thread to let everyone know that all the I-Trial dialogue and cutscenes have been added to the wiki. (Sorry, no screenshots.) So you can now read all the stuff you chose to ignore when you were running with the Leagues.
Nice. Although it wasn't always choosing to ignore it as a fair bit of dialogue tended to happen as i'm trying to keep teammates on their feet. (Or piling trip mines at enemy feet; same thing really.)
So far so good. Onward and upward!

No, they haven't been added, unfortunately. Nor the new i24 power pool powers changes or the Sorcery Power Pool. I'm leaving having to leave those blank on my new MIDS builds (with a text file supplement note on what I was planning for the blank spots.)

Would love having a even just a purely placeholder i24 MIDS update with the power names and ability to slot in the IOs they take (for IO set totals), even if the new game mechanic additions and changes aren't coded in yet.

I can understand, however, not wanting to spend time and effort on it until (or if) the game actually returns. Heck, I'm just grateful MIDS is still available! I've been having fun playing around in it again. :)

I played around a little with the Sorcery pool, it was kind of neat.  Looking forward to trying it out more in depth when (that's right, I said *when*) CoH returns!

It's funny how much has been made of what happened in the past just being a just business decision on NCsofts part.
I am an ass, but don't we all love a good ass!

You can do it yourself using the powerset data from the Titan Network. It's not that hard. So far I have semi-functioning versions of Martial Assault, Wind Control, and Radiation Melee. With some aspects like Pressure not working, unknown values for the damage boost from Envenomed Weapons, etc, but enough to make a character and slot IO sets. Most IO sets... for some reason, my MID's won't allow me to place more than 4 types of IO sets as being available for a power, so sometimes I have to just choose the most desirable 4 types even if a power should be able to slot both DefDebuff and Accurate DefDebuff.

Thanks for this. When I was leading iTrials on Liberty, often I found myself "rushing" through, because we had a full league, some of whom had things to do after - so I honestly don't think I ever read any of that stuff. I only barely know some of the BAF and UGT stuff because of the cutscenes - which I always found entirely too long, lol. Never was much of a story hound. But, now I have more time to stop and smell the figurative roses. (and the literal ones, too, I suppose).
